Charlie's POV

It has been a few days since Emmet and I became... "offical", and things have seemed to settle down now. Radiance and her mother are back on speaking terms and currently spending the day together.  Emmet is off attending some royal duties that he's ignored ever since I arrived and I can't help but feel empty without him by myside. He makes me feel safe. Meanwhile, Aurora and I spent the morning near the outside of the kingdom showing me her favorite spots in the ocean.

Aurora lead me into a cave filled with sparkling pink crystals the size of my head. She explained to me that the crystals used to hold some sort of old magic in them but it was stolen a long time ago by the Dark Merpeople. Now they're just pretty to look at. She even took me somewhat near the surface to show me the beautiful coral shores that are often over looked by other merpeople.

We rolled and played in the ocean's waves for several hours, just letting time slip by. We were joined by  a pod of dolphins that polietly said hello to their princess but were wary of me. All except one young dolphin ignored me. He curiously swam closer to me while his mother clicked for him to come back but Aurora assured that I was safe.

The little dolphin nuzzled the fins of my tail and said to me he's never seen a color like mine before. Aurora and I laughed when he said I moved too much like a silly human and asked where I was from. Before I could answer the dolphins decided it was time to move on, leaving the breeding grounds and back to their larger pod. The little dolphin swam playfully back to his mother and we waved goodbye.

As we headed back to the castle, I was in a dazed state. Even though I've been down here for almost a couple weeks now, I still can't believe what I see. Each morning when I wake I still think I'm in some strange dream that I can't seem to wake up from. But then Emmet stops by to say hello and takes me to a private breakfast with him and I wish the dream will never end.

Aurora also warned me that as we traveled through the heart of the kingdom, I was recieving strange and suspisous looks from the other merpeople. She told me that Emmet's tail is very distinctive and that they're still don't know that Emmet has mated. Taken aback, I asked why and Aurora simply said it was because the King still doesn't know either.

"It must be a secret for now, Charlie." Aurora said just outside her bedroom. "If they find out you're a human... a pirate human, they will want to kill you. Emmet's mate or not!"

Now Aurora has fallen asleep in her bed while I try to do the same. Instead my thoughts are clouded, missing my brother deeply. Before, all I wanted to do was get back to him but now I can't bear the thought of leaving. These... merpeople aren't all bad, I could live peacefully here. If they don't kill me first, I thought bitterly. I need to see Nate again, I need to know he's safe!

"Somethings wrong." Aurora suddenly pipes up, interuptting my plans to figure out how to see Nate again.

I sit up from my bed and see Aurora staring out the window with a serious expression on her face. "What do you mean?" I ask.

Without looking Aurora speaks again, voice full of worry. "Somethings wrong! The ocean changed, can't you feel it?"

"No..." I start but then I realize, she's right. The ocean seems colder and alive with an invisible energy charge running through the water. I open my mouth to say something else but a sudden pulse of power rips through the water making Aurora and I breathless. "Aurora! What was that?" I gasp.

"Where's Emmet!?" Aurora urgently asks me, her eyes wide with panic.

"I.... I don't know!" I frown, suddenly aware that Emmet blocked me out again. "He blocked me again."

"Break through!"

"I can't do that, last time he was so furious." Just yesterday morning I awoke to find that I couldn't feel Emmet any more, unknowingly he was having a private discussion with his father's advisor and panicked. I accadently broke through his block. He was furious but I didn't know any better and promised he wouldn't do it again without telling me, assuring me that its just part of his royal status.

Aurora groans, "Charlie, somethings wrong! You have to." When i don't respond she grabs my arm and shakes me, "Charlie!!"

"Alright!" I snap back, annoyed by her panic. Easily, I found Emmet's and I's link through the water but its dull, almost nonexistant trying to stay hidden. Gently I squeeze through Emmet's mind and then all at once a tornado of emotions crash into me, knocking me breathless.

"Charlie! Are you alright!?" Aurora rushes to my side as I'm pushed back by an invisble force.

I'm blinded by rage but my body is frozen with fear. I'm so afraid, Emmet's so afraid. Afraid for my life. I gasp and shut my eyes. My entire body starts to tremble violently from the wave of emotions and I cry out in fustration that came from Emmet. I feel power surging through his veins, building in his chest before exploding out of him to only rise and build again. He's yelling so loudly that it hurts my own ears.

"Emmet is... He's screaming. Fighting. Afraid for my life, he keeps thinking that I'm going to die!" I start to sob into Aurora's shoulder.

"Turn it off. Block it!" Aurora urges me and at once, as quickly as it came the emotions end but they're just replaced by searing hot pain that explodes from the side of my tail. I let out a blood curling scream before shutting myself off to Emmet. "Charlie!" Aurora screams in terror, holding me in her arms.

"He's hurt!" I scream, ripping out of her arms. I burst out from her rooms, ignoring Aurora's cries for me to come back and swim faster.

I have no idea where I'm even going but all I know is that I'm getting closer to him. I can feel his heart pounding through my chest. The pain is gone now but the fear is not. I make many turns down many different hallways within the castle but then finally stop in front a magnificant door. Without thinking I push the heavy doors open and what I see is a destoryed throne room.

I look down onto the floor and see Emmet lying motionless with his mother hovering over him. "Emmet!' I cry out and swim to his side.

His eyes grow wide when he sees me. "No, you have to go!"

"Its not safe for you child, stay behind me!" The Queen pulls me behind her and looks up away from me.

"Are you okay?" I ask, tears forming in my eyes to only be washed away.

Before Emmet could answer, another voice speaks from behind. Dark and dangerous. "THIS vile creature is your mate!"

"Now, now... you know there was no choice in the matter!" The Queen speaks up in my defense and I slowly turn around.

The Sea King. Chills run up my spine when I meet his hard gaze. His tail is much longer than that of a normal tail. It shines a deep, deep, dark black but has elegant light green swirls up along the side, his mate mark. His hair is long down to his chin, and on top of his head is a shining golden crown decorated with gigantic diamonds and pearls. He holds in his hand a gold trident that is alive with small bursts of lightning from the tips of the spikes. It's glowing with raw power.

The King lets out an angry yell and power shoots from his tridant and up through the ocean, turning the water dark. The current through the water turns harder and unforgiving, creating small tornados above him. "You do not belong here. We kill your kind and always will. Now it's your turn you disgusting being." He threatens me.

"Father no! Please, it was I who changed her!" Aurora suddenly bursts into the room and clinged onto her father's arm. His eyes widen and shockingly throws his own daughter away from her and she hits the wall, hard.

"Aurora!" Her mother shrieks. "You have been consumed by the Dark!" She hisses at him, rushing to her daughter's aid. Emmet rises up next to me and I see that he's bleeding from his side, half healed from his mother.

"I am the King! And our ocean is dying!" He laughs madly. "What I say, you all will follow or pay the price. My son, you have dishonoured me... but, we can find you another mermaid for you to woo." He says darkly and rises his tridant aming it at me.

"No!" Emmet swims infront of me, deflecting the blast with his armor but he is knocked back, weak from his wound. He unsheaths his sword and comes infront of me protectively.

"Please! No! I will leave, and never come back." I sob, "Don't hurt them."

"You fool. This is what our kind does, we kill humans like you, especially rotten pirates. Don't you know that Emmet and my darling Aurora were the ones that attacked your ship that brought you here? The first hunt in over fifty years... that they know of, I've been doing hunts for years barely keeping the ocean alive." The King adds with a wicked grin, "Even the one that killed your precious Pirate King... but Aurora was still too young for that anyway. However, the recient one was my daughter Opal, who Aurora and Emmet attended."

"No... you're lying. They didn't..." Numbly I turn to look at Aurora who is crying. "Aurora, please tell me he's lying... That you didn't kill them." But one look at Aurora's face was the answer I was looking for.

"Charlie I'm sorry! I saved you, I was against it I swear. Please, Im sorry!" Aurora sobs. She swims over to me but I flinch away from her, stung by the betrayal.

Emmet tries to touch my arm but I slap it away. "I'm your mate, we were meant for each other." He says desperately, voice filled with pain.

"Get away from me! My family died because of you!" I shriek at him. "You're all monsters!" My heart feels as if it's been ripped from my chest, my soul torn into a million peices. Suddenly, I can't breathe anymore and I try to take in a deep breath to calm down but then I realize the King is trying to kill me.

He turns me around in his thick hands and squeezes harder on my throat, blocking my thin gills on the side of my neck. His eyes are ablaze with power and effortlessly flicks Emmet away with his tail. Everything around me is slowly becoming fuzzy and the Queen is screaming at the King to stop.

I thrash in his hands, trying desperately to breathe. My tail is growing heavy, the sound of Aurora's screams is slowly dying out. My vision is fading into black and then I stop fighting, accepting my fate.

Just before I feel myself slip away, a giant burst of light throws the King off of me and I fall to the floor gasping, on the edge of unconsciousness. Emmet is imedately by myside but I weakly try to push him away.

"What is this choas that is happening here?" A mythical woman's voice clearly rings out through room. I struggle to keep my eyes open to see who saved me but I am lifted off the floor by another merman, and Emmet is behind him, bowing.

The merman has bright blonde hair that is about ear's length and a strong sharp jaw. His nose is pointed and has a thin beard from his ears to his neck. He shockingly looks like... "Nate?" I whisper... but the merman's eyes are not gold nor is his hair black, but he looks just like him! I turn my head and see everyone, including the King and Queen bowing to this mysterious mermaid. I then look over at her and she seems to be glowing in a beautiful gold light.

Her tail is a shimmering golden silver with large, fanlike fins. Her deep black hair is past her tail and she watches me with peircing golden eyes... on the side of her tail is the silver design of a mate but with other designs... identical to mine.

She slowly apporaches me and I am not afraid. She strokes my forehead, gazing down on my face full of wonder. She looks like an angel, sent from heaven itself. She has an otherwordly beauty about her... and she glows with a golden light.

"Elder... you have come to us after all these years. Why?" I hear the King say in disbelief. "You have turned into a myth..."  The Elder? I thought to myself, surely not THE Elder...

The woman stopped stoking my forehead and turns to face him. With a gentle voice she says sweetly, "You were about to destroy the prohecy King. The one you have abandoned, just like your mother did. Driven mad with the Dark."

"She's a human! Changed by my disgrace of a daughter!" He hisses. "I am in control of my Dark powers! I'm the one who overthrew the Queen, I killed her!"

Suddenly, the mermaid, the Elder mermaid, turned furious. "Except you did not kill your mother and as of this mermaid... She is no human Sea King."

"I did!" He pleads with her.

But she holds up a hand and he falls silent, "Futher more.... this human is in fact... my daugher, with the destiny to destory you and the Dark." Aurora gasps loudly in disbelief and my heart freezes in my chest. I fight the urge to vomit and my head reels in disbelief. Her daughter!? My eyes fall shut, my body feeling even more weak than before.

"WHAT!? That's impossible! Shes just a vile human!" The King roaring in rage was the last thing I heard before I fell into subconsciousness.
