Warning: You may have read this story. It is quite a famous tale after all.

An excerpt from The Chronicles of Barry Otter.

“Barry Otter and the Mysterious Ticking Noise”

All children, except one, grow up. Barry Otter was not the lucky exception. But unlike many of his adult friends, who were too depressed by this fact to do anything productive, Barry was determined to become the man his five year old self would look up to. He decided to be the greatest wand maker in the history of wand makers since the legendary Ollivander himself. Phoenix tail feathers, dragon heartstrings, dusty wand boxes… the good life.

Throughout his various travels, he heard about a special kind of wand making institution. It was the only wand making institution in the history of wand making institutions that had its very own Quidditch team. And naturally, Barry was determined to join.

He searched far and wide for this institution. He looked in the darkest, deepest valleys and in the highest, snowiest mountains, with no avail. Eventually, he wound up in a magical village on the farthest corner of the earth. Close to this village was a tall mountain, always covered in snow. From the wonderful, magical villagers, he learned that there was a special Wizarding School for the Jedi on the very tippy top of the mountain, where all the Jedi Wizards studied and learned all their pizzazz.

Barry stated at the mountain for the longest time. The mystery of it intrigued him. He wondered what it was like up there.

One day when he was about to resume his search, wind was blowing down from the mountains, the air turned quite cold and Barry heard a mysterious ticking noise issuing from the very tippy top of the mountain.

So he made himself a double decker nutella sandwich, hopped onto a villager’s rickety cleensweep seven and started his journey to the Wizarding School for the Jedi. It took him hours and hours but finally, he made it to the top. He bravely walked up to the massive door and knocked on it. The door opened and the headmaster of the Wizarding School for the Jedi walked out.

“Hello, Mr. Headmaster, sir.” Barry was very polite. “Down at the village in the valley below, I heard a very mysterious ticking noise issuing from your Wizarding School for the Jedi. Could you tell me what it is?”

“I’m afraid I can’t tell you. For you are not a Jedi Wizard,” Mr. Headmaster replied.

Sadly, Barry got back on his borrowed rickety Cleansweep Seven and dejectedly made his way back to the village. He really, really wanted to know what was making that mysterious ticking noise.

The noise didn’t stop, in fact it seemed even louder and mysterious, than before and Barry was so overwhelmed by curiosity, he rode back up the mountain to the Wizarding School for the Jedi again. He knocked and the Headmaster greeted him.

“Mr. Headmaster, sir. I’d really like to know what is making that mysterious ticking noise,” Barry requested politely.

“I’m afraid I can’t tell you. You must be a Jedi Wizard for me to disclose such information to you.”

Barry thought about it for a full second. Then he asked, “What do I have to do to become a Jedi Wizard?”

“Do you really, truly, with all your heart, wish to be a Jedi Wizard?” the Headmaster asked.

“Yes, Mr. Headmaster, sir,” replied Barry.

“It is a very challenging and taxing task,” warned the Headmaster.

Barry thought about it for another second.  After deciding that he really did want to know what was causing the mysterious ticking noise, he replied, “I wish to become a Jedi Warrior.”

“Very well,” replied the Headmaster. “To become a Jedi Wizard, you must successfully complete three tasks. The first task is to count all the stars in the sky.”

Barry then bid goodbye and started his journey back to the village. Once he reached the village, he began on his quest. Every night, he began counting the stars in the sky. Through rain and shine…er…moonlight, he counted, counted more, and kept on counting. At last, on one miraculous night, he finally finished.

The next morning, he made himself another Nutella sandwich and began his journey to the Wizarding School for the Jedi. Upon reaching the school, he knocked on the door and once again the Headmaster greeted him.

Once he told the Headmaster the correct number of stars in the sky, the Headmaster replied, “You have successfully passed the first task. To fulfil the second task, you must count every grain of sand in every beach of the world.”

Barry then bid goodbye and started his journey back to the village. Upon reaching the village, he immediately began on the second leg of his journey. He counted, counted, and counted.  He counted all day and he counted all night. He counted all month and he counted all year. At last, he finally finished counting.

The next morning, he made himself another double decker Nutella sandwich and began on his journey to the Wizarding School for the Jedi. Upon reaching the school, he knocked on the door, and once again, the Headmaster greeted him.

Once he told the Headmaster the number of grains of sand on all the beaches of the Earth, Mr. Headmaster replied, “Very well, you have passed the second task. The last and final task is to climb the tallest mountain in the world and see yourself in comparison to the rest of the world.”

Barry then bid goodbye and started his journey back to the village. Once he reached the village, he began on his quest. He traveled to the site of the tallest mountain in the world. He climbed and climbed and climbed (because you cant apparate to the top of the mountain). Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. But he kept on climbing. He climbed until he reached the tippy top of the mountain and saw himself in comparison to the rest of the world.

Then he climbed, climbed and climbed. He climbed all the way down the mountain, and without rest traveled all the way back to the village near the Wizarding School for the Jedi. He flew all the way up to the school, and knocked on the door. The Headmaster greeted him.

After he told the Headmaster of his journeys, the Headmaster replied, “Very well, you have passed all three tasks. From today, you are a Jedi Wizard.”

“Thank you, Mr. Headmaster, sir,” Barry replied politely. “Can you please enlighten me on the source of the mysterious ticking noise?”

“It is located in the room in the deepest dungeon of the Wizarding School for the Jedi. The only entrance to it is the longest passageway that leads to the huge blue door that opens to the narrowest corridor that leads the tiny orange door that opens to the darkest corridor, which leads to the deepest dungeon where the room is located.”

“Thank you so much, Mr. Headmaster, sir!” Barry exclaimed before running towards the smallest passageway, eager to finally find the source of the mysterious ticking noise.

He walked, and walked, and walked. He walked all the way down the longest passageway until he reached the huge blue door. It was locked.

He walked, and walked, and walked. He walked all the way back up the longest passageway, back to where he had left the Headmaster.

“Mr. Headmaster, sir, the huge blue door is locked; may I have the key for it?” Barry asked politely, itching to discover the source of the mysterious ticking noise.

The Headmaster brought out a huge key ring filled with thousands of keys from the folds of his cloak. He looked though it, pulled out a shiny green key and handed it to Barry.

“Thank you, Mr. Headmaster, sir,” Barry called out gratefully, running back to the longest passageway that lead to the huge blue door. He ran, and ran, and ran. When he came to the huge blue door, he used his newly acquired shiny green key to unlock it. He then ran, and ran, and ran. He ran all the way down the narrowest corridor, until he came to the tiny orange door. It was locked.

Barry then ran all the way up the narrowest corridor, through the blue door, all the way up the longest passageway to the spot where he had left Mr. Headmaster.

“Mr. Headmaster, sir, the tiny orange door is locked. May I please have the key to it?”

The Headmaster brought out his huge key ring, pulled from it a dull green key, and gave it to Barry.

“Thank you, Mr. Headmaster, sir!” Barry called out gratefully, running down the longest passageway through the blue door, down the narrowest corridor. Upon reaching the orange door, he used his recently acquired dull green key to open it. After doing so, he ran, ran, and kept on running. He ran all the way down the darkest corridor, to the deepest dungeon until he came to the door that lead to the room that held the source of the mysterious ticking noise.

He took a deep breath and slowly turned the door knob, opening the door. Right in the middle of the room was the source of the mysterious ticking noise.

Me:  Do you want to know that the source of the mysterious ticking noise is?

            You: YES!

Me: I’m afraid I can’t tell you. For you are not a Jedi Wizard.

            You: ARG!! Crucio! Avada Kedavra!

Me: Cowers behind Harry Potter (the boy who lived eight times in a row).
