Metamorphosis

I remember the day I told her.
She cried the whole car ride home.
She said she just wanted a normal daughter, not for her sake but for mine. She said I didn't understand how cruel some people could be.
I thanked her for wanting to keep me safe and shelter me from ridicule.
I explained it like this, even she would be jealous of a butterfly if she were still a Caterpillar.
