He takes a deep breath. “I th-” he stopped as we heard Cassandra’s scream. We
ran to her room; she was crying on her bed, I rushed to her and cradled her to my
chest. “What the matter baby” I asked as I rubbed her back “Mommy” she sniffles
“someone was watching me through my winnow” She sniffles again “how do you
know that baby, weren’t you asleep” I ask “I was asleep and I had a weally bad
dream. A mean man was trying to take me away from you. He hurt you and ven
he took me and hurt me” She starts crying again “shhhh…. Baby what did this evil
man look like… tell mommy” I try soothing her by hugging her tighter. “He has
short but long hair and mommy his eyes were scary. He looked weally scary.” Right
then I knew who she was talking about. “And when I woke up he was at my
winnow mommy I’m scared” I was scared too but I can’t show it cause I don’t want
to scare her more. “Come on baby lets go sleep in mommy’s room.” I say picking
her up and taking her back to my room, and laid her down. I looked at Lucas, “Hey
do you mind staying in here with us. You can sleep on the bed too, because there
is enough room for all of us.” I ask “yeah of course! I don’t want anything to
happen to either of you” I smiled at him; I sat on the bed and lay down next to
Cassandra. Lucas turned off the light and crawled in bed next to Cassandra. As
soon as Cassandra was asleep I whispered “Lucas are you awake?" I was hoping he
was because I really needed to talk to him. “yeah why" he whispered back. “We
both know who she was talking about. We need to talk to my mom about maybe
moving to another state or something because I don’t think I can handle him
hurting me or her. He has already hurt me once, but I don’t regret it because it
gave me Cassandra. But we need to do something fast." I whisper "I know Hun, but
we will talk to your mom in the morning. I think you are right; we need to leave
this town. But let’s go to bed now and think about it later, good night pumpkin."
he whispered back and leaned over Cassandra and kissed my cheek. He has called
me pumpkin for as long as I can remember.
*Flashback*
it was Halloween when we were 10 he dressed up as a pirate and I dressed up as a pumpkin. Of course I know that I could have gone with something more uhmm.... What’s the word...?
Ah more girly but I did not like any of the girly ones so, I got a pumpkin costume.
He teased me for the entire day saying "hey pumpkin come over here." and ever
since then he has called me pumpkin.
*flashback over*
When I woke up I saw that Cassandra and Lucas were still asleep. I looked at the clock and
saw it was 7:30 in the morning. I slowly got out of bed trying not to wake them, I went to
the kitchen, and it has pale blue walls and stainless steel appliances and a marble counter
that had chairs under neath them. I saw my mom reading the newspaper, she looked up
at me when she heard me walk in. “honey we need to talk" she said looking straight at
me. “I know mom I need to talk to you too." I replied as I sat down, she looked at me with
fear in her eyes. “I do not know how to tell you this sweetie but do you remember when
your father went to jail? Well anyways he is getting out today, I know I should have told
you sooner but I wanted to wait till you were older. I guess I should tell you the other
reason he went to jail. As you already know he went to jail for possession of drugs and
other things. Anyways the main reason was" she took a deep breath and let a tear fall
down her cheek. “When you were little he-" she stopped again more tears falling “he
touched you when you were a kid. You do not remember this honeys so do not beat
yourself up, I was at work one day and I got sick so I decided I would go home. He watched
you while I was at work because he wasn’t working at the time. Anyways when I came
home I was going up to my room and I-" she stopped again to take a deep breath and she
started holding my hand "I heard you crying so I went to check on you, but when I went up
to the door and saw your dad touching you and you telling him no and stop." she starts
crying harder, she soon stops so she can finish. This is horrible how my father could do
that to me, the person I called my dad do this to me? “I asked him what the heck he was
doing. He turned around towards me and he just had this look in his eyes that scared me.
He asked me what I was doing home that I was supposed to at work. I told him that I came
home sick, he looked at me and grabbed me and threw me up against the wall. He was
holding my arms so tight I started crying saying it hurt. He then slapped me and told me to
shut up. He never acted like this before, it scared me so much. I was still crying but I
started crying louder, he slapped me again and told me to shut up. I listened to him and
he told me he was glad he cheated on me; he then threw me down the stairs. I broke my
arm and hurt my leg really bad. He ran down the stairs after he did, he kept telling me he
was sorry. I told him I needed to go to the hospital; he quickly grabbed you and took me to
the emergency room. Anyways the reason I’m telling you this is because I’m going to need
you and Lucas to take Cassandra out of this state. Because he is going to come looking for
you and me, I am going to go stay at Matthew’s moms house there isn’t enough room for
all of us. I need you guys to leave as fast as you can, I will pay for everything. Here I will
give you this credit card" she hands me a credit card. “It has all the money you need." oh
my gosh!!! I can’t believe it. It’s like I’m having a nightmare and it just keeps getting
worse. I might as well tell her now “mom I was going to tell you that i need to leave as
soon as I can. Matthew came over and told me the Ryder saw me walking Cassandra and
he is starting to ask questions. Cassandra screamed last night because she saw someone
watching her and she described Ryder perfectly. I’m worried" I finish my mom just hugs
me and tells me it’s going to be ok and to start packing. I go up to my room to find Lucas
waking up, he looks at me and smiles "good morning" he says. I frown "it’s not really a
good morning" I reply, I then fill him in on everything my mom said. He agreed with my
mom, " why don’t you look for a hotel right now while I go pack my clothes then I will pack
Cassandras clothes." he came over and hugged me tightly and kissed my forehead. “it will
be ok I promise pumpkin, I love you, you know that right" "yeah I know, I love you too" I
whisper to him as he lets go. He then turns around and walks out the door as I got on my
laptop I quickly look over at Cassandra to see if she is asleep. She is so I turn back to the screen and turn my laptop on.
