socialite ; a person who is well known in fashionable society and is fond of social activities and entertainment.
✈ mira's pov;
"Hurry up, Mira! We'll be late for the gala!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming, Aricia!"
I placed on my high heels, and ran out the door, wearing a pale pink chiffon dress with my hair loose. I walked downstairs and saw Aricia already dressed and waiting for me. She was wearing a silver beaded dress, with her hair in a bun, and her hands on her hips, her feet tapping the ground impatiently.
"Oh, goodie, the socialite has finally arrived!" she said, sarcastically, while inspecting her nails.
I rolled my eyes, "haha, very funny, lets go, we're going to be late!" I said, grabbing my clutch and walking towards the door.
"Says the one that was late," I heard Aricia mumble behind me.
"Now, now, sweetie, it is very unladylike to mutter under your breath! What would your mother think of her heiress!" I exclaimed, mocking Aricia's mother, Madeline. Aricia was the daughter of Madeline and Franklin Brownstone, the CEO's of Brownstone INC, which made Aricia the heiress to her parents business and fortune.
Aricia rolled her eyes at my comment, and made her way towards her car.
More like 'Fortune on Wheels'
It was honestly no surprise to anyone that Aricia rode in style in a lilac purple Audi A7.
"Isn't your car a little too flashy?" I had asked, when I first met Aricia.
"Isn't your opinion uncalled for?" she had retorted, and that was the end of that conversation.
Shaking away the memory, Aricia and I both hopped into her car. I turned on the radio, and we both drove to the gala silently.
Once we arrived to the gala, Aricia parked her car, we grabbed our purses, then walked out onto the carpets. Right when I stepped out, I was blinded by the flash of cameras. I love being the subject of photos, but when I was ambushed like this, I didn't like it at all.
Unfortunately, I was used to it all, being the child of the largest tech mogul in this galaxy, and the greatest actress of our century.
That's right. I'm Mira Aderyn, the daughter of Patrick and Flora Aderyn, at your service!
Actually, I'm at nobody's service, so scratch that :)
Aricia and I were ushered into the venue by some security guards, then we were escorted into the banquet hall. Before we could walk in to the hall, I heard someone call me from behind.
"Mira, sweetie, do you mind coming here for a minute!"
I turned around to the voice of my mother, and I walked over to her.
Flora Aderyn was the image of grace and perfection, someone that women all over the world aspired to be like. She had her long brown hair out, and was wearing a gold dress.
I kept walking across the hall, and stopped in front of her. "Hi mom," I said, with a smile
"Hi honey, you look so beautiful!" she gushed, looking at me appreciatively
"Aww, thanks mom! So do you!" I exclaimed, and she blushed.
"Thanks sweetie," she said, and my dad walked back to us.
"How are my two beautiful ladies doing?" he asked
"Wonderful, thanks dad," I said, "I'll meet you all inside!"
I moved to turn away from my parents and go inside, but my mom grabbed my wrist.
"Wait, honey, we want to introduce you to someone!" my mom said, and another couple came towards us, with a teenage boy.
"Mira, this is Steven and Katerina Leiben, and their son Kyle. Mr. Leiben is one of my new business partners, and we found out that we both have kids the same age, so we thought that you two would become fast friends!" my father said, gesturing towards the family that just approached us.
"Hello, Mira," Mrs. Leiben said, "Kyle here is a bit on the shy side, but I'll leave you two to talk for a while," she said, before walking away with her husband and my parents, leaving me and Kyle on our own.
"Hey, Kyle," I started, hoping he would start talking.
He looked up at me, and rolled his eyes, "Wow, you're just like the rest of them," he said, rudely.
I looked up at him, offended. "I beg your pardon?" I asked incredulously
He looked down at me, and rolled his eyes again. "You're just like all the other rich girls that come to these galas. My parents get to know yours, then they try to set us up, but the girl only tries to get with me for my looks, then I have to deny her, she goes crying to her parents, then they shun me for the rest of my days. Its happened the past 21 times," he said menacingly, then glared at me, daring me to answer him.
Oh, he did not just say that
I glared up at him, "How dare you! You don't even know who I am, or what I've been through, and you automatically assume things about me. You know what? Forget this, I'm leaving, and you can do yourself a favour by getting out of here." I retorted angrily, and made my way to the hall, not glancing back at Kyle.
"Oh wonderful, now I don't have to deal with another plastic rich girl!"
I turned around, seeing an angry expression on Kyle's face. I couldn't handle this anymore. When people disrespect me, they've got a problem on their hands.
More like a category 6 hurricane
I marched up to Kyle, and before either of us could comprehend what was happening, I slapped him across the face.
"Honestly, do you have no respect!" I roared
Kyle had the audacity to look wronged.
"Did you just slap me?" he questioned, his voice threateningly low.
"Yeah, what are you going to do about it, you coward," I seethed
His expression darkened. "What did you just call me?", he whispered, menacingly
"A coward, because that's what you are. You think its perfectly okay to go and categorise girls and shame them, and you automatically assume I'm like that as well. Do you know why? Because you're ashamed with yourself, and you can't come to terms with your problems so you go along and admonish me. That's what makes you cowardly, Kyle Leiben, and I don't deal with cowards." I said, and walked away, and this time Kyle didn't make a move to stop me.
I walked into the hall, and took a seat at the table with my parents and Aricia's parents, ignoring the stares I got from people.
"What was that outside? I heard you screaming!" my mom asked.
"Oh, it was just that Kyle had the audacity to assume things about me and to be a complete jerk, so I came back at him and slapped him," I said, nonchalantly.
I heard silverware clatter on the table, and felt the weight of my parent's stares.
"You diD WHAT?" my father roared, not impressed, "Mira, the Leiben's are a very powerful family! If they hear about what you did, then our business is toast!"
"But, dad-"
"No buts! This is ridiculous! I expected better from you!" he yelled
I shook my head, getting angrier by the second, "I honestly can't believe you don't understand where I'm coming from! This guy thinks he has the right to judge me and say whatever he wants about me, and I'm not going to let him do that!" I screamed, grabbed my purse, and walked out towards the veranda.
I stood by the railing, letting the breeze pass across my face. I couldn't believe today, I got completely wronged by a guy, my parents didn't understand, and now I had no ride to get out of here, even if I wanted to!
Just then, from the corner of my eye, I saw something glistening. I walked towards it, and smiled.
It was a ladder.
I dropped my clutch, and I saw it land on the soft grass. I slowly descended the ladder, and dropped onto the grass, picking up my purse. I walked towards the back of the compound, and decided to take the bus home, rather than calling a taxi. I walked up to the bus stop, and was surprised with what I saw.
There was a girl, a couple years younger than me, and she was backed against the walls of the bus shelter, with a large, burly man looming over her. I saw her face, and she was scared, and I knew I had to help this girl out.
"Hey, get away from her!" I yelled, and the man turned around. He was wearing all black, and his dark hair was neatly gelled back, and I realized that he wasn't that much older than me, but the most shocking thing was that he was oddly familiar.
Hmm, strange
The guy looked me up and down, and smirked, "Oooh, wonderful, now I have two beautiful ladies to take with me!"
I shook my head, disgusted with him, "Not if I can help it," I replied, and moved towards him and the girl.
Before I could go any close, he tried to grab my arm, but he didn't fool me.
Nobody can fool a black belt in karate.
I grabbed his arm and twisted it, and he hissed in pain. He grabbed his arm out of my hold, and advanced closer to me.
"You're going to have to pay for that, young lady,"he said, and he tried to punch me.
I dodged his fist, and gave him a right hook to the jaw, which twisted his head, and he dropped to the ground, unconscious. Just then, another man approached me from behind, and I started fighting him as well. Men started coming out from nowhere, but I fought them all, and I bashed the head of the last one in with my high heel.
"I knew those things were useful," I muttered, looking at the sea of unconscious bodies. I moved towards the girl, and bent over so I was her height.
"Whats your name?" I asked her
She looked up at me and answered, "Annamarie Heslip, but you can call me Anna"
I nodded, "Ok, Anna, how about you and I walk to the diner across the street, and we can grab a bite to eat?" I offered. She accepted, and we both walked over to the diner.
Just as we walked inside, I heard a 'boom' from behind me. I saw shrapnel start to fly, and I threw my body over Anna's, trying to protect her body from the flying shards of metal. I heard a whooshing sound from behind me, and I felt something embed itself into my back.
Then everything went black.
...
