sixty-two: maybe it's more than just a piece of paper
"And how is our little Jedi?" Niall asks Harry over the phone way later that evening just like they had the night before that. Harry was once again struggling to sleep, for different reasons tonight than it was the night before. He still missed Niall like crazy, but the run in with Keaton had left Harry more than a little frazzled. Harry didn't wait till it was four in the morning this time, calling Niall at around one instead because Harry knew just what he needed.
"Sleeping like a bear in hibernation, which according to my mother is a very rare trait for a two week baby. He likes to sleep, reminds me of you." Harry says, smiling softly into his pillow as Niall lets out a soft chuckle.
"I think he gets that trait for you more than he gets it from me, you're the one who refuses to wake up early on the weekends."
"I'm too tired to argue with you." Harry whispers, unable to bring himself to argue. Harry was having a hard night, Keaton was still very fresh on his mind and Harry was pretty sure he wasn't getting any sleep tonight, lullaby or not.
"You doing okay? You seem... Off." Niall points out and Harry lets out another sigh.
"Just a long day is all... I'm blaming it on lack of sleep."
"Need me to sing Baby Got Back?"
"I don't even think Baby Got Back will help me sleep, even if it's being sung by you." Harry teases and he could just picture the smile on his face right about then.
"So, you gonna do a vlog for me tomorrow or I guess today? I miss my boys." Niall says instead of continuing to banter with Harry. Harry could tell how tired he was just by the sound of his voice and he couldn't help but feel a little guilty about it because Niall was staying awake for him.
"I was kinda planning on it, Noah's gotta make his debut before you go out and woo hundreds of people on a stage."
"The only person I care about wooing is Harry Styles, he's pretty hard to woo." Niall teases on the other end ad Harry can't help the blush nor the smile on his face.
"I've heard he's really into guys with Irish accents and the ability to turn Baby Got Back into a lullaby on short notice, even though I'm pretty sure he'll kill the said Irish person if he ever sings that song to their baby as a lullaby."
"Damn, well I guess there goes my plans for the summer."
"It's October, Niall."
"I know it is, but he can't even hold up his own head yet. If I want the two of us to start our own father son band, I want him to at least be able to sit up, so therefore it's my summer plans." Niall justifies and Harry can't help but roll his eyes at that.
"Is that really all you're planning on doing for the summer?" Harry asks, tossing onto his other side as his right was starting to ache just a little. It had been two weeks since he'd had Noah, but his stitches still tugged a bit.
"I also plan on getting you to marry me." Niall says and Harry can't help the sigh that pushes past his lips. He starts to trace patterns into the sheets, unsure of what else to say to Niall in that moment besides what the obvious answer was.
"You said you were gonna let that go..." Harry whispers and Niall lets out a sigh of his own on the other end of the phone. Harry can't help but look in the direction of the dresser where Niall had left that engagement ring sitting and Harry couldn't help but wonder if he left it there on purpose, to taunt him.
"I know, but honestly H... I want to prove you wrong. Not all marriages end in divorce you know. We're practically married anyways, H. I mean, we've got a baby, we live together, the next step is marriage or we're just gonna be sitting in the same spot for the rest of our lives. I wanna marry you, H. You say it's just a paper and if that's what it is for you then I don't see why it's such a big deal if we do it. I love you, Harry. I want to get married so that everyone we know can share in that love. You don't have to say yes right now, I really don't expect you to... but can you please just consider it again?" Niall asks, his voice so full of hope that Harry couldn't even think about saying no.
"I'll think about it." Harry says, biting down on his bottom lip after he answers Niall.
"That's all I ask, H... I love you a lot, you know that right?" Niall asks and Harry hates the fact that he feels like he might cry.
"I love you more, don't you even think about arguing with me about it."
"Well unfortunately I am going to argue with you on that by saying that I love you even more than you love me. It's just what happens when you have my baby, the love I have for you just tripled in a matter of minutes."
"Okay, I'll let you have that but I'm going to just say that the fact you sing me to sleep makes the love I have for you quadruple." Harry says, letting a long yawn as he felt his eyes start to droop. Talking to Niall made him feel better if he was being completely honest.
"Is that your way of saying you want me to sing you to sleep?" Niall asks, earning a tired chuckle from Harry.
"Only if you feel like it, it really does help me sleep though."
"When did you get so clingy?" Niall teases and Harry lets out a tired hum.
"When I had your baby."
