Jesse and I’ve known each other for almost three months now, and we’ve come to trust each other very much. Jesse had just invited me over to Kyle’s house for a rave party. I first, I refused, but Jesse started whining like a little child and told me that it’ll be fun. I couldn’t do anything but agree with him. I didn’t have the heart to reject Jesse anymore.
Today, I dressed into my dark blue skinny jeans and red t-shirt. I pulled over a worn out jeans jacket just to look cooler, but I knew that I’d probably be teased for it.
I made my way past the crowded hallways and to the school gate with my book satchel slung on my right shoulder. I stood by the gate, waiting for Jesse.
Suddenly, I felt a warm hand ruffle my hair. I turned to see Jesse smiling at me. He pointed to my face and I tilted my head in confusion.
“You still have your reading glasses on, Lou,” he chuckled using his nickname for me. I reached up and pulled my glasses off my nose. I slipped them back into my book satchel and nodded at him as Kyle, Cindy, and Jenny came.
We all piled into Kyle’s car as he got into the driver’s seat. I tried pulling my seatbelt, but for some reason, it was stuck. I frowned at the seatbelt, tugging on it a little harder. I heard a soft chuckle and I found Jesse’s arms reach around me so that my head was touching his chest as he pulled the seatbelt free for me.
My face burned in embarrassment as he clicked the seatbelt into the buckle for me. I nodded at him, mouthing ‘thanks’. He nodded and smiled back as he buckled himself down.
During the drive to Kyle’s place, the radio was turned on and when the song switched to I Want by One Direction, everyone went crazy. They all started bouncing in the car and screaming the lyrics. I bobbed my head to the beat and laughed as Jesse threw his head back to hit the high notes.
When we finally reached Kyle’s house, we all literally fell out of his car. Cindy had taken shotgun so she had no problem. It was me, Jesse, and Jenny that had a hard time out of the car. I could swear that my seatbelt hated me. Jesse had to help me unbuckle my seatbelt as well.
We all went into Kyle’s house when I realized that his house was like a mansion. I tapped Jesse on the shoulder and signed to him, ‘Where’s Kyle’s family?’
Jesse gave me a confused look and stroked his imaginary beard. “Hey, Kyle! Where is your family? Lou just asked me that...shouldn’t they be somewhere around here?”
“Nah, my parents are on a cruise to celebrate their 23 year anniversary. My uncle is out for some sort of business trip. My brother just moved out, like, a month ago. So no one’s going to be home,” Kyle explained. We all nodded our heads in understanding.
“So let’s get this party started!” Jenny yelled. Kyle went to his computer and went on Youtube and went on his favorites list which contained over a hundred videos of pure techno and trance. I shot Jesse a shocked look and he smiled back at me, slowly shaking his head.
After that, everyone danced for two hours straight and ordered pizza for dinner. I have to admit, it was a whole lot of fun. I was so tired by the time we had finished all the pizza.
But it was getting late, and we didn’t want the girls to go home by themselves so Kyle offered to drive them. That left Jesse to drive me back to my apartment. Where was his car you ask? He lived extremely close to Kyle and it took less than five minutes to walk to Jesse’s house to pick up his car.
When I got into his car, I slowly reached for the seatbelt, afraid that Jesse’s car’s seatbelts would also hate me. But thankfully, they were quite nice and let me buckle myself down without any trouble. I took the passenger seat next to Jesse in the driver seat and tossed my book satchel onto the back seats.
The drive to my apartment was pretty quiet since I didn’t want to take Jesse’s attention to my signing while he drove. When we got to my apartment, I got out of his car, taking my book satchel with me. I closed his car door and waved goodbye to him.
But as I started to turn around, something stopped me, and I turned back to Jesse, motioning for him to roll down his car windows.
‘Come inside. I want to thank you for driving me home.’ I signed with a smile.
“You really don’t have to, but I’ll take up the offer because I want to know how Louis Gilhre lives,” he said with a wink. He parked his car on the driveway and went inside with me.
I dug through my book satchel for my keys, but somehow they fell from the side pocket onto the ground. I bent down to pick them up, but Jesse was quicker, and already had the keys in his hands. I smiled sheepishly and took the keys, opening the door and letting him inside.
I closed the door behind me as I threw my book satchel by the couch on the floor. Jesse casually plopped down on my couch and spread his arms so they rested on the back of the couch.
“Nice place,” he said as he scanned the room. I nodded and signed a quick thank you. I was about to sit down next to him when I suddenly realized that I had completely forgotten all my manners.
‘What do you want? I’ll get you something to drink,’ I signed at him quickly as I headed towards the kitchen.
“Ah, wait! You don’t need to get me anyth—”
I turned to face him and I froze as his body came crashing down on mine, pushing me onto the carpeted floor. I couldn’t respond as his lips crashed onto mine, and my eyes widened in shock.
His eyes went wide as he pulled away. His beautiful green eyes bore into my own hazel ones. Our faces were just inches away from each other, out noses almost touching. We stayed in that sprawled position for a moment, just searching each others’ eyes for something, anything.
He pushed himself upright and muttered ‘sorry’. He had apparently tripped on my book satchel. I sat up slowly and looked at him hesitantly. When his eyes met mine once more, I instantly averted my eyes downward, embarrassed. I could feel the heat on my cheeks. I couldn’t even bring myself to sign anything at the time.
It was all so quick. He got up and apologized again, collecting his things and leaving with a quiet goodbye. Then I was all alone on my living room floor again, stricken. I couldn’t think anything the rest of the night, but one thing I was sure of was something was growing in my chest.
We had just kissed…
~*TIME LAPSE*~
I was currently picking out some cool looking clothes to go to the movies with Jesse. I remembered how he asked me to go to the movies with him on Friday. It went something like this:
I hadn’t spoken to Jesse since we kissed on Tuesday. It’s Friday today. I swung my book satchel over my shoulder and walked toward the school gates. As I stepped out of the campus, a hand grabbed my shoulder and I turned around to face someone that I wasn’t quite ready to see yet.
Jesse.
“Hey... um, Louis. Can you... do you have time to go see a movie with me tomorrow night?” he blurted out.
I shifted my weight from leg to leg, nervous and unsure. I looked up at him and nodded slowly. I watched as his expression changed from worry to joyful.
“A-alright then! Um, I’ll come by your apartment tomorrow at around 7 pm, ‘kay?” he asked with excitement. I nodded at him and smiled widely.
I almost destroyed my closet in finding clothes when I finally settled on black jeans and white short sleeve t-shirt. I pulled on a blue and green checkered button-up and slipped on a hand knit bracelet that had my name on it. To finish everything, I pulled on blue Vans.
I pocketed a twenty dollar bill in case of an emergency and slipped my keys into my other pocket. That’s when my doorbell rang and I rushed to open the door to see Jesse in blue skinny jeans and a grey and black striped shirt. He had on a casual black blazer and a pair of white Adidas.
I smiled at him as he leaned against the doorway and held out two movie tickets. I left the apartment with him as I hopped into his car. When we reached the movie theater, he got out of the car instantly after it was parked. He rushed over to my car door and opened it, taking my hand to help me out.
I blushed as he closed the car door and kept my hand in his. He hooked his index finger with mine and we walked toward the movie theater entrance. He handed the man the movie tickets and bought some popcorn.
We went inside and took seats at the very top just as the movie started. The whole time the movie played, Jesse’s hand was tightly intertwined with mine. I couldn’t help but smile when he squeezed my hand three times.
It was something that I had learned from sign language. It meant I love you. I squeezed his hand four times meaning I love you, too.
When the movie was over, I was reluctant to leave the darkness and privacy that we had during the movie. I had barely even paid attention to what was going on in the movie. We held hands as he led me back to his car.
He drove me home and when I stuck the key in the door, I felt his breath trickling down my neck. His arms were stretched out on either side of my body, blocking me from getting anywhere. I pressed my back against the door as he leaned in closer and brush his lips with mine.
I wasn’t sure of how to respond so I just stayed still. He pulled back for a moment and I panicked. My hands flew to his shirt and pulled him in toward me. He pressed his lips against mine and we share the best kiss possible. It was short, but sweet and passionate.
He pulled me into a hug as he whispered huskily into my ear, “I love you, Lou.”
