Chapter 17 The Silver Wolf
It felt like I was awake but I knew I wasn’t because I was sitting in a forest that I’d never seen before. The trees were so big and filled with leaves that it blocked the sky and sun altogether. Everywhere I looked was trees and somewhere in the distance I could hear water slapping against the rocks. To the left of me a twig snapped making me spin around to see what was there. Only thing I could see was trees when a streak shot in front of me, past me and into the trees to my right. What the hell was that?
“Hello” I said looking around. I wasn’t scared even though I should have been but all I could think about was what was in this forest with me.
“Do not be alarmed when I step out” a soft, gentle voice said echoing around me so I didn’t know where it actually came from.
“Ok” I said stilling searching for whoever was there.
Then a silver wolf about twice the size of a normal wolf stepped out from behind a group of trees. She was beautiful with thick silver fur, stormy grey eyes, and a large black diamond on her chest. I had no idea what the diamond meant but I knew that it wasn’t as important as why she was here.
“Who are you?” I asked not moving a muscle.
“My name is Accalia, I am the first she-wolf of the Firestone Pack and I am a part of you” she said and I felt my mouth fall open. A part of me? I’m not a wolf, how is she a part of me?
“Yes I’m a part of you because your father is a shifter. You are human with a wolf spirit inside you. I am the reason that you heal quickly, run faster than most humans, why you can fight a wolf and beat them. You have all my strength, speed and other things I’ll explain later but for now I want you to know that I’m here to help you. I will guide you the best I can” she said and I felt my legs give out as I fell to my knees. This isn’t possible, this couldn’t be possible, could it?
“I don’t understand, if you’ve been with me all this time how come I’m just know seeing you or hearing you or whatever the hell is going on” I asked confusion in every word.
“I am getting stronger the longer you are around other wolfs, around a certain Alpha that is slightly annoying but cares a lot for you. I’ve been trying to communicate with you for a long time but I was never strong enough. Now that I can talk to you even if it is only in your dreams I can help you more now” she said and I just stared at her.
“Are you telling me that because you are around a bunch of other wolves you’re getting stronger? Does that mean that I’ll end up shifting?” I was starting to panic now. I don’t think I want to be a wolf, not really. I mean I wondered what it’d be like but I don’t think I actually want to be one.
“Calm down Riley, think of me as a guide for you to get through this. You don’t have to worry about shifting, but you have all the benefits of a shifter. Only if you wanted to shift would you be able to” she said stepping closer till she was only a few inches away from me. As I stared into her eyes I realized they were my eyes, the same eyes that looked at me in the mirror every day. It was different though looking into those eyes because they were surrounded by silver fur. There was no denying she was beautiful.
“So what does this mean? Am I going to dream of you all the time? Hear you all the time?” I asked trying to understand how this was going to work.
“You will hear me when you need to, dream of me if you need me” she answered and before I could ask anything else a sharp pain shot through my stomach. My eyes shot open to see Beth standing beside my bed, her fingers dug into the bandage wrapped around my stomach. Blood was covering the bandage and running down my side.
“You think you can walk in here and just take what is mine” she said through gritted teeth her fingers digging into the skin more. I had to bite my tongue to keep from screaming out in pain.
“JP is mine and I will do whatever I have to so that it stays that way. You are nothing but a little whore that will die soon enough” she said with a smug look on her face as she turned to walk away. Tears were streaming down my face, pain shot through my whole body but I wasn’t about to let her get away that easy. Ripping the IV out of my arm, jerking the little oxygen thing off my finger I slowly slid off the bed grabbing a metal tray that was sitting on a cart.
“Beth what are you doing in here” I heard JP’s voice. A curtain enclosed the bed but I knew she was still in the room. Every part of my body hurt but I managed to walk out of the curtain, around the bed to see Beth facing JP. He was staring at her not paying attention that I was slowly moving toward them as she spoke.
“I thought I’d come find you and figured you’d be in here with her. You’re parents want to speak with you” she said. I was close enough now that JP finally realized I was there and his eyes went wide and Beth turned to look at me. With both hands holding the tray I swung it around hitting her in the side of the face. The impact sent her flying into the wall where she fell to the floor unconscious. JP rushed over to her as I fought to keep standing feeling something running down my leg.
“What the hell are you doing Riley she’s pregnant” JP yelled. Just then Lexi, Hunter and Seth appeared in the doorway.
“She isn’t pregnant and if the bitch comes near me again I’ll kill her” I said feeling my body sway when my legs started to give out and I was falling toward the floor. Lexi screamed when I felt someone catch me but my eyes wouldn’t stay open.
“I got you” I heard Seth whisper as he picked me up and Lexi started freaking out.
“She’s bleeding like crazy what the hell” Lexi’s panicked voice echoed through the room making me head hurt.
“Beth” I mumbled but my words were lost as I slipped into unconsciousness.
My eyes fluttered open to a dark room, the only light was the glow from the hallway. I could hear voices in the distance but didn’t know who it was. I tried to move my hand only to realize someone had ahold of it. Looking to my left I saw a shadow in the shape of a person but I couldn’t see who it was. By the size of the hand I knew it wasn’t Lexi and since I wasn’t feeling any shocks I knew it wasn’t JP. When I tried to pull my hand away they tightened their grip so I couldn’t. A light came on blinding me so I had to close them again. Slowly opening them I let them adjust till I saw the man sitting beside me and felt my jaw drop.
“Professor Cartwright what are you doing here?” I asked my voice hoarse. I sat there staring at my Professor confused why he was here. His thick brown hair fell down to his dark brown eyes, his full lips pulled into a smile with a 5 o’clock shadow. He was wearing a white dress shirt, with light colored jeans which is what he usually wore when he was teaching. He was my accounting teacher and also the only professor that was our age and determined to get me to go on a date with him.
“How many times have I told you to call me Mason outside the classroom Riley” he said handing me a small plastic cup. I took it seeing it was water and downed it feeling the cold liquid slide down my throat easing the dryness that made my mouth feel sticky.
“More times than I can count” I said handing the cup back seeing him smile.
“So want to tell me what kind of trouble you got yourself into this time” he joked.
“You want to tell me why you’re here?” I asked
“I’m Alpha Mason Cartwright of the BloodMoon pack” and I felt my whole body go tense. REALLY? How many wolves have I been around and didn’t know that’s what they were?
“But? How? Huh?” I was at a loss for words and he just sat there grinning at me.
“Lexi called me and said you needed to talk to me and told me what was going on. When she told me you were in the hospital I hopped in my car and drove right here. So you finally know about us, that’s good because when Lexi said you didn’t know it kinda made wanting to take you on a date harder”
“Hey nobody said you couldn’t tell me” I pointed out and Mason sat there for a moment thinking about it.
“You know you’re right I never thought about that” he smirked. Mason was always a pretty good guy and if he hadn’t been my teacher I might have dated him, but he was and I didn’t.
“I should probably let them know you’re awake. Lexi is a mess” Mason said standing up to his full 6’3” height. As he walked out of the room I looked around to see this room was different than the others I was in. This one looked like an operating room with all kinds of machines, cabinets full of bandages, scissors, cutting utensils and other stuff. There was a long stainless steel sink along the back wall, trays here and there around the room and the metal folding chair that Mason was sitting in. Everything was white except for the sink and cabinets that were stainless, I guess for easy clean up. Since no one was in the room I decided to look at the damage. Pulling the thin sheet down I lifted the hospital gown to see my whole stomach was wrapped and there were a few spots of blood. I started peeling the tape off the side biting my lip as the tape pulled my skin. I don’t know what the hell they put on this tape but it’s worse than duct tape. When I finally got the one side peeled off I lifted the gauze to see 4 huge claw marks across my stomach, the skin red and jagged around the marks. They weren’t really deep but bad enough that my whole stomach was a bruise. I felt the tears burn my eyes but quickly pushed the away. It’s my own fault, I knew better than to step in between two fighting wolves. But I don’t always listen to myself when it comes to logical thinking.
“What are you doing” Lexi snapped making me jump. She came over to me smacking my hand as she recovered my stomach. When she finally looked at me there were tears in her eyes and she looked ready to start yelling.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you” I finally said when she wrapped her arms around my neck, her whole body shaking.
“I thought I lost you for real this time, I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you. Please don’t ever do something that stupid again” she cried.
“I promise” I whispered fighting to keep from crying myself.
“So tell me how you knew” Lexi asked sitting on the edge of the bed as she wiped her eyes with a tissue.
“Knew what?”
“That Beth wasn’t pregnant”
“Oh” I suddenly remember that little bitch coming in here and sticking her nasty fingers in my wound. “Have you ever met a pregnant woman that can eat during their first trimester, or that would willingly fight or train rather? Plus when she came in here she said she’d do whatever she had to, to keep JP and I wouldn’t stop her. Like I’m trying to get between them” I said seeing Lexi shaking her head.
“I knew that little bitch was up to something” she said when I heard another voice in the hallway.
“I want to see her” Seth sounded angry. Lexi looked at me with worried eyes.
“He’s been in here a lot and whenever he leave he goes out to the woods and shifts. I don’t know what is going on with him but you might want to talk to him” Lexi said.
“Well let him in I didn’t say he couldn’t be in here” Lexi got up heading out to the hall and a few seconds later Seth stepped around the curtain. He looked like shit, his eyes had bags around them like he hasn’t slept in days, his clothes were dirty and his hair was a mess.
“Seth what the hell you look worse than I feel” I said seeing him smile as he came around the bed grabbing my hand as he knelt down on the floor.
“I’m sorry Riley I shouldn’t have taken you to the tree, I should have stayed with you when you left. I should have protected you”
“Seth stop” I interrupted him. He was blaming himself for this and it wasn’t his fault. “I knew Gage was going to show up just wasn’t sure when. I needed to talk to him but I didn’t expect JP to show up and start fighting. It was my own fault for stepping between them but I needed them to stop. This wasn’t your fault so stop blaming yourself” I said squeezing his hand.
“But I should”
“No Seth, you shouldn’t have done anything, just by being here is enough. But you need to go home and get some sleep. Maybe we can hang out when I get out of here” I said hoping to cheer him up a little. It seemed to work because he smiled and stood up.
“I look forward to it” he said then leaned down kissing my forehead before walking out of the room.
I was getting tired again so I leaned my head back closing my eyes when I heard the sound of heels coming toward the room. My eyes shot open waiting for Beth to appear but instead Dr.Blackwell stepped around the curtain smiling at me.
“How are you feeling” she asked looking at a folder in her hand.
“I’m tired” I said
“That would be the pain meds, they make you sleepy but it helps keep the pain from bothering you so you can rest. Let me take a look” she said pulling the bandage off and looking at my stomach. “Well you are healing quickly but it was really deep so you still have a few days to go before you can leave. Get some rest and when you wake up we’ll get you something to eat” she said checking the IV in my arm. When I nodded she turned around and left the room. It didn’t take long and I was asleep again thinking of the silver wolf. I had so many questions for her.

Well there it is, she does have a wolf and just might be able to shift. I am so happy everyone seems to like the story so far and thank you all for the comments they mean a lot to me. I will probably update at the beginning of the week since I work this weekend. Some very fun stuff is coming up so hang in there.
