Everything was like a blur. Many things happened but I didn't register any of them I was wrapped up in my grief. People talked to me and offered comfort but none of it helped no one would ever be able to replace my parents. No matter how hard you tried you could not be my mum and dad.
I'm not sue how long it was I sat there like this but I am guessing it was a while as when I finally snapped out of my daze I felt my muscles ache from the lack of exercise.
Stella sat by my side with a comforting arm around my back and a familiar hand in my own. Also sitting on the sofa opposite was a middle aged man in a crisp smart suit, I had never met this man before yet he looked at me with a air of deep concern and sympathy. Probably some stuck up psychiatrist thinking he got me and could understand my deepest inner thoughts and could read my desperate pleas for help. Fat chance there there was only ever three people who understood me and two of them were dead gone forever leaving me.
The man in the suit spoke "Hello my name is Ian Harrold I am here with you today to discuss where you will be staying and who you will be living with."
I just stared at him what did he expect all smiles and rainbows? "So he continued," clearly put out by lack of response " I believe you don't have any relatives you can live with." He was correct my mum's parents had both died ( her mum from breast cancer her dad from lung cancer) and my dad's dad was a nutter so his mum had to care for him. Both of my parents were only children and there was just no other possible relatives.
"Where am I going to be staying then." I enquired not because I really cared nowhere would be any good without my parents but simply from curiosity.
"Well." Ian continued "we have a family who would be delighted to take you in. The family consists of a mum and her son who I believe is around your year. What do you say?"
"Yeah sure." I replied with a significant lack of enthusiasm that I could tell didn't go unnoticed.
"Now this is a fantastic opportunity to have a new start don't waste it." What a idiot did he not understand that I didn't want a new start I was perfectly happy with my old life. Buts that just it really it was my old life and whether I liked it or not I now had a new life.
