[8] Thursday, February 14

The eighth time I see Bubblegum Boy it’s Valentine’s Day. It’s almost as if he makes a habit of coming on holidays. I’m dressed in all black despite Clint’s strict orders to wear red or pink. He had yelled at me for a full half hour before shoving clip on heart earrings at me, but I had shoved those into my pockets.

“Wow, very festive,” a voice appears from behind me and I jump, swiveling back around to see a smirking Bubblegum Boy, red beanie on his hair.

                “What can I say, I’m a rebel,” I joke.

“Right. Well, Happy Valentine’s Day, I guess,” he scratches his neck unsurely and I remember something with a start.

“Oh, I have something for you,” I send him a fleeting smile before disappearing into the break room. I walk back outside and shove a gift bag at him. “Sorry I couldn’t wrap it, I probably suck more than you. But, uh. Here.”

“Why?” he looks at me with a curious gaze, smiling a small smile.

“I felt guilty. You know, for Thanksgiving and Christmas and for being a bitch.”

“Aw, but Bean Girl,” he grins, eyes sparkling. “I wouldn’t have you any other way. Think of how boring you would be if you weren’t a bitch. Then you would literally be nothing.” I can’t help but laugh, rolling my eyes.

I elbow him. “Shut up and open your damn present.” Obediently he does and then looks up to meet my gaze. I had gotten him a t-shirt with a boy blowing a bubble in the center. Around it are the words don’t pop my bubble. I shrug with an uncertain grin. “Do you like it?” He still doesn’t say anything. “I just thought that since you got me a shirt, I would too.” He laughs finally.

“Thanks Bean Girl.”

“Now we match,” I offer, feeling as if I still have to support my case. Like maybe he doesn’t like the shirt as much as I did. As much as I thought he would. Then a thought hits me and I take a small step closer. Since he had hugged me last time, I warily wind my own around his waist. Just to seal the deal and maybe to smell him again because fuck, does he smell good. When I pull away he’s looking at me funny. “What?”

Bubblegum Boy suddenly smiles and for some reason I find it hard to breathe. He pulls a red beanie like his own out of his jacket and places it over my head before I can react. He straightens it out and grins. “Now we match.” Then something weird happens. Something unanticipated happens. I blush.
