Forever young
Preface
The cold air swirling around me as I stumbled down the dark street I really shouldn't have worn my new high heels my mind foggy from the few to many drinks id had tonight I was trying to walk home from my friends sweet 16th she had just moved a few streets down Claire and I had been friends for about four years now but I was supposed to be home at 12pm at the latest of course in my state it would probably take half an hour instead of ten minutes but I would never make it home instead my life would be changed forever..................
Chapter one
Frozen
I couldn't walk strait anymore I was way to drunk I decided to sit down on the kerb there were no cars out and every one in town would be asleep I tried to pull off my heels I was just out side a small collection of shops I could feel the damp ground wetting my new dress it was usually really warm in the del ray California area but it had rained early this morning so the ground was still wet I was still sitting on the kerb when I saw a cop car turn around the corner and coming my way I tried to get up as fast as I could caring my purple heels in one hand I half ran to the alley way between two shops if that cop saw me I would go to the cell for the night under age drinking in a liquor ban area and all I waited in the mouth of the alleyway until the cop passed me ''idiot'' I said to my self more of a slur than anything I decided it would be a good idea not to walk down the street but as I turned around to walk down the alley way I stopped in my tracks a man was standing at the other end of the alley way only a few meters away I swallowed hard I couldn't move but a light breeze blew one of my red curls in my face and I automatically pulled it out of the way not taking my eyes off of the tall man who was now smiling but other from his smile I couldn't see the rest of his face ''leah you know young girls really shouldn't be out this late at night''- he paused to take a few steps closer-''and drunk as well im guessing your not 18 yet my dear'' his voice smooth like soft silk I tried to step back but stumbled I steadied myself against the wall ''how do you know my name?'' I asked in a quite shaky voice he tilted his head and a light flashed on his black hair ''oh leah ive been watching you for a while I know quite a lot about you'' I started to shake ''why?'' my voice catching and he was at my side in a instant his cold hand on my cheek ''sssssshh leah don't be afraid my names Pablo by the way'' he looked at my face reading the fear in my green eyes ''why are you here?'' my voice only a whisper ''I was sent as a favor to a friend of mine but don't worry it wont hurt for long'' he picked up my wrist and I didn't know what he would do next the next thing I knew he bit my arm but in the next second he was tackled and I fell on the ground gasping for breath I could hear growling but my wrist was bleeding bad now and I was feeling light headed from the loss of blood and the amount of alcohol im not sure what happened because I slowly drifted into unconsciousness ............
I came to a few times I was in incredible pain ''you need to drink this ok'' a male voice with a slight English accent said to me I couldn't open my eyes some thing cold was pressed to my mouth I just did what I was told it tasted like salty melted metal I groaned in distaste ''I know it tastes bad please just drink'' the male voice said and I did but soon after I wish I hadn't. I came in and out of consciousness the pain had tripled and I now couldn't move or scream I could faintly hear a car motor but I wasn't sure if it was real ''im going to move you ok'' the voice said sounding as if from 100 meters away and as if I could say no but when I was lifted every inch of my body alit with fire and I was swallowed by the darkness..................
Im not sure how long I was out for all I remember after the immense pain I was aware of being moved into a car and hoping the pain would end soon.
When I woke fully for the first time in I don't know how long. I didn't want to open my eyes I was scared to what id find but I could hear some one whispering ''what am I going to do elice'' the male voice with a English accent said ''you brought her over you have to look after her but carmen and I will help until she's better but then you can take her to live with you'' elice said in a soft voice ''nick'' said a high pitched female voice ''yeah'' he replied ''can I go check on her'' she said ''carmen just be quite when you go up stairs ok and take her some food'' I sat up quickly ''upstairs?'' I said to myself I couldn't have heard them from a second story could I? I thought to myself I looked around the room I was lying on a big four posted bed in a big t-shirt and p.j shorts the room seemed small with a little floor space between the dresser and computer desk I pushed my hand through my hair which was most likely a big red mess a light knock on the door pulled me away from my scan of the room ''are you awake'' asked the high pitched female voice belonging to carmen ''yes'' I think she squealed but I couldn't be sure ''can I come in'' she said sounding excited ''um I guess'' I said wondering why I was here and not at home when carmen walked through the door she was smiling from ear to ear she looked very young maybe 15 her hair was about waist length and a wavy brown she was very small with a round face and bright blue eyes she had a tray of food in her hands and she placed it on the bedside table and then sat on the edge of the bed ''how are you feeling'' she asked her smile growing bigger ''um a little sore and confused'' I said looking at her ''do you remember who you are'' she asked ''yeah leah rose damson from del ray California'' my voice sounding different than I remember ''do you remember what happened to you leah'' her smile faded into a hard line images of Pablo flashed through my mind ''what happened to Pablo'' I asked carmen looked away for a second ''he got what was coming to him'' her voice had a sharp edge to it as she looked down at her hands ''what do you mean carmen'' I asked and she looked up at me her face surprised ''you know my name'' her voice confused ''I heard you nick and elice talking before you came up'' her smile re-appeared ''what really happened to him'' I asked again ''what he was going to do wasn't right we couldn't let him walk away'' Carmen's face grew grim as she peeked up at me ''what was he going to do'' I asked in a stern voice hoping since im about a year older than her she would listen ''we think he was going to take you to a man called victor who has a certain reputation and were trying to find out why he picked you'' ''what kind of reputation does this victor have'' she looked at me I guess to check my reaction I made sure my face showed no emotion ''he picks certain humans with potential that could be useful to him he tried to get nick a few times but elice has stopped him'' Carmen's voice grew quiet ''why would he want nick or me for that matter'' I tried not to sound angry ''nick has a certain talent we don't know why he would pick you yet. Are you hungry?'' she asked changing the subject I nodded I wasn't hungry but I didn't know how long it had been since id eaten last carmen picked up the tray and placed it beside me it was full of food that I loved but it didn't smell good ''ew yuck whats wrong with that'' it didn't taste good either ''try this instead'' carmen said handing me a bottle ''thanks'' it tasted a lot better than the food I just ate I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand ''what is this'' I said staring at the red stain on my pale hand ''why am I so white?'' I asked looking from my hand to carmen she smiled showing all her teeth four fangs included my eyes bugged out ''whats wrong with me'' I asked on the verge of hysterics ''your no longer human its blood in the bottle you're a..........a vampire the reason for the fangs and pale skin'' I almost fell off the bed from shock ''but vampires aren't real they cant be who did this to me I cant have become this by myself'' the shock numbed me but I could feel the anger building ''leah please don't get angry at him he had to otherwise victor would have gotten you'' I was standing before I even knew I wanted to ''where is he'' I asked her sternly ''please leah don't hurt him'' she was getting angry now as she stood near the door but I was out the door a red haze covered my sight ''nick'' I said my voice lethal I stopped at the top of the stairs I could hear him and elice in the bottom room beside the door talking about hunting I was in the door way within half a second elice and nick looked up surprised ''hello leah how are you feeling'' she asked a smile played on her lips it i only just took in what elice looked like straight white teeth blond hair she looked like a house wife I didn't answer I was staring at nick ''you did this to me'' I accused him ''leah calm down'' carmen said trying to grab my arm but it was no use ''you basted'' I yelled at him as I flew through the air and tackled him to the ground my hands around his throat ''you think I would be alright with this'' I screamed at him I could feel hands grabbing at me but I was to strong ''I know your angry leah im sorry'' nick gasped ''you killed me you had no right to take my life but you did fuck you bloodsucker'' I yelled on the verge of breaking down ''your not really dead'' elice said trying to calm me ''I should be im just a monster now'' my voice faded out and I let carmen pull me off nick a hundred images went through my mind killing and blood never dieing I would never see my family again as I folded in on myself carmen took me back up stairs and sat me on the bed I just felt numb ''will I ever see my family again?'' I asked my voice dull ''no not likely I know how hard this is but every thing will work out I promises'' I took that in and added it to the pile of deal with later my brain just wasn't working ''what can we do'' ''well we can make ourselves look human we drink blood and have venom and fangs some of us can fly or go invisible and even fewer of us have stronger powers like nicks'' ''how old are you?'' I asked after a moment ''im 120 years old'' I didn't respond ''well im really 15 but ive been a vamp for 120 years'' ''you were a very unusual looking human I must say'' I took a deep breath ''what do you mean'' I managed to say without any curiosity ''well most red heads have pale skin, blue eyes and freckles yet you have green eyes and had tanned skin plus your hairs unusual its not orange but a deep red'' ''thanks I guess, when will I be able to make myself look human'' I asked trying to find out as much as I could while still in shock ''that all depends on you but we will help'' I took a deep breath and shut my eyes ''are you ok leah'' carmen asked ''apart from just finding out im practically dead I cant eat ill have to kill so I can continue to exist some random guys after me and im a pasty ginger for eternity'' the last one didn't really matter but still carmen stifled a laugh ''you won't be white forever. I can't do any thing about the killing part that how we live and well get victor'' ''what happens when we go in the sun'' I asked after a long moment ''we perish into sand that's why we prefer to live in such a cold place'' ''where are we?'' I some how knew deep down inside that I was safe ''anima Alaska'' that pushed me over the edge I couldn't speak reality set in and I broke down after a while carmen left and at some point my body shut down and I fell into a deep sleep.........
Chapter two.
New life
It was though I feel into a coma but I was awake during the whole thing four weeks had passed and nothing had changed I still hadn't forgiven
Nick and it would take a while till I would. I was depressed deep in my mind I knew what they had told me was true but I was hiding from that all I did was sleep and cry I hadn't eaten well drunken anything. Even though my throat burned I refused to drink anything I deserved this pain this burning. I was sitting on my bed looking out the window I could see so far it amazed me as I watched the sun glistening off the snow far far away I would miss that the feeling of sun tingling my skin I would never have that feeling for the rest of my life and my life was going to last forever. I remembered the last night of my humanity the look in Pablo's eyes as he approached me that night and I stood up straight I wasn't going to let what that pig did to me ruin my life ''right'' I said to my self walking over to my mirror and tying my hair in a high pony tail if I was going to live forever I was going to what i wanted i got changed into a pair of black jeans, boots and a baggy t-shirt and walked over to the window and opened it. the wind hit my face with several different scents lingering in it i could hear hearts beating fast and my morals flew away with the wind in the next second i was lent out the window raising my head to the wind it was 4pm. i jumped silently from the second story window landing in a light crouch i looked around quickly i seemed to be in the front yard i could see only one car parked by the front door and i knew nick was the only one here i heard him in the kitchen before i jumped down. the yard wasn't big with just the forest surrounding the house there were two ways i could go i could take to the forest or follow the road till i hit a town i was a little scared to follow the road till i hit a town but at least if when nick found out i was missing he wouldn't be able to just take me but in the forest i could hide from him and run as fast as i could and see what this new body could do for me and maybe a little hunting i could try hunting a animal. After a few moments of considering what to do i took to the forest i ran as fast as I could, feeling the wind on my face I climbed trees and swung from them like a crazed monkey. i was laughing loudly as i caught a large hawk and dropped it from the tree i was perched in the blood easing the burn in my throat as i dropped to the forest floor i ran for a while until i happened across a house more modern than elice Carmen's and nicks and mine i guess i could hear one heart beat inside i was tempted to go inside but something stopped me i didn't want to kill who ever was inside not how i had been killed but i was curious of how people would look to me now with new eyes. i took a few steps closer so i was just standing on the fringe of forest i Scand the house and through a window my eyes met those of a young boys well he was probably my age with dark brown hair and the same green eyes as mine his skin white no doubt from living in a place that never say the sun our eyes locked he didn't move nor did i his face didn't show fear but concern like he was worried about something his wolf like face smooth as he broke away from my stare looking down blood rushing to his cheeks the sight of this made me realize that my muscles were tensed ready to spring i started to back away afraid of what i might do i turn and ran until i felt that i wasn't going to do anything i took to the trees and caught a few more animals before i heard someone calling ''hey'' it was the boy from the house he must of ran after me ''hey where are you?'' he yelled his voice a little shaky probably from running i froze in the tree as he walked below me i didn't know what i was doing until i started slowly climbing down from the tree i was in with out making a sound ''hey where are you?'' he asked again his breath slowing i dropped to the ground silently a few yards away from him i didn't know what i was going to do i just stood there ''where could she be'' he muttered to himself the wind blew over my face and his scent hit me using all my self control i made myself stay still until the wind stopped my throat was burning though not as much as it had the first time id opened my window ''nate!'' a voice yelled from the direction of the boy nates house it was louder for me the boy only probably just hearing it and he turned around quickly and he was facing me i couldn't move like a dear in head lights i took a step back ''hey are you alright?'' he asked me but i just stood there trying to keep a hold on my self control i should have never came out here he took a few steps towards me i a few more back ''what's wrong?'' he asked my mind froze and i forgot how to speak ''nate!'' the same deep voice bellowed pulling me from my frozen state ''i have to go'' i said but knowing i could not bolt as fast as i could in front of this human i walked around him not breathing ''hey at least tell me your name and if you ok'' i turned to face him my fangs coming out a little ''im fine'' i said looking him in the eyes ''your name?'' he asked again looking confused i didn't know weather i should tell him or not or even to use my real name ''leah its leah'' i said quietly turning to go ''will i see you again?'' he asked why couldn't he just leave me be and go he looked down and i took the opportunity to jump as high as i could into the tree beside me he looked up to see i was gone with a confused look on his face he looked around him ''nate'' the voice said even louder and coming closer about 100 yards or so away stood a man about 22 or so ''nate ive been calling your name for ages what are you doing out here all by your self?'' he said sounding a little annoyed please don't say you say me i chanted over and over in my head ''oh nothing sorry i didn't hear you'' i let out a sigh and nate looked around again i hope he hadn't heard me ''ok well hurry up'' the other man said they looked alike maybe brothers they had the same green eyes and shaped face nate walked up to the man and they walked off with each other ''what do you suppose your doing leah'' nick accused from a few trees over ''nothing ok'' i said jumping down nick dropped down beside me ''are you a idiot or what, what were you thinking coming out here by your self'' his voice rising in volume and a fresh wave of guilt rushed over me even though i knew it was his gift i couldn't help but fell guilty for what i did i looked down at my feet ''i just wanted to do something you know live my life if that's ok with you i don't want to sit in that room and wallow for the rest of my days which is a long time so i decided to have some fun i even did a little hunting'' nicks face dropped ''what, what did you just say'' i took a deep breath ''i hunted what's the big deal its not like i killed anyone is it'' i guess he didn't know that we lapsed into silence while i waited for him to absorb that ''the big deal is that when that boy came up to you should have killed him why didn't you?'' he asked his face baffled ''sorry im not like you i didn't want anyone going through what i did just because you probably kill people with out even thinking about their life's'' i said getting angry i turned away from him and started running leaving him staring at the spot i was standing just moments ago i ran towards the house following mine and nicks scent when i reached the edge of the forest by the house i stopped running carmen and elice were standing in the yard and carmen ran up to me and hugged me ''oh thank god your alright don't you ever run away like that again ok'' she paused looking over my shoulder ''where's nick'' she asked looking me in the eyes ''in the forest probably where i left him'' i said confidently ''no im not'' nick said appearing at my side and walking straight over to elice and whispering in her ear i didn't need to listen i knew what he was saying i left carmen elice and nick in the yard and ran into the kitchen to grab a bottle of blood it tasted a lot better than the animals id had and as soon as i realized it was human blood i put it back and looked in the fridge until i found a bottle labeled bear i grabbed it and went to my room.
Chapter 3
Music
It had been three days since id escaped and I haven't been aloud out since. I wasn't even left alone for more than a millisecond Carmen mostly stayed with me. But when she had to hunt nick sat in the corner of my room watching me as he was now. ''Do you mind not staring at me its not like ill disappear into thin air'' I spat at nick ''well for all we know that could be your power so I am not taking my eyes off of you until Carmen gets back ok'' he said in a superior tone ''well could you at least turn around so I can get changed'' at the moment I was in nothing but a towel since id just had a shower I tried to be clever by trying to get through the window in the bathroom when nick broke down my door since he felt my victory damn emotion feeler he answered by turning and facing the wall I got changed within a second ''you can turn around now'' I said through my teeth I sat on my bed at least when Carmen was watching me we had fun ''oh my god ive been in this room for three days can we please do something else but sit here'' I said in the most annoying voice I could manage nick sighed ''I don't know'' he said hesitantly ''oh come on I need to run or I don't know do something there must be something we can do'' I said pulling out my puppy dog eyes nick chuckled ''well'' he said I jumped up ready for him to say I could go out side ''do you like music?'' he said smiling knowing that was not what I had in mind but I would take what I could get ''yes why?'' I said eyeing him suspiciously ''do you play a instrument?'' he asked I nodded I played guitar and piano since I was little music was really the only thing I was good at as a human nick stood up and said ''come with me then'' while holding out his hand he opened the door and I walked towards him and he grabbed my arm he dragged me until we stopped a few doors down ''go on then'' he said gesturing towards the door I slowly opened it. The room was filled with stuff a piano, guitars, a drum kit, microphones and recording gear and I wondered who was the singer a big smile appeared on my face nick let go of my arm and shut the door behind us as I ran over to the piano and started playing some random keys with my eyes shut ''how long have you been playing?'' nick asked me I didn't bother opening my eyes to answer him ''since I could walk'' I answered calmly we lapsed into silence but I could feel nick watching me as began to sing quietly along with the melody of angle by Sarah mclachlin one of my favorite songs we must of sat there for hours I continued to play my favorite songs and after awhile nick started to accompany me on the guitar I didn't mind because that meant he was no longer staring at me. I was playing beautiful by Christina Aguilera when I sensed Carmen come in as she came to sit next to me on the piano stool I opened my eyes finally and looked at her she had a huge smile on her face as she began to sing the chorus I was blown away by how good she was I started singing with her. As I played the last key Carmen's smile faded ''you know I wanted to be a singer when I was human of course there wasn't much for it back then you were expected to be a proper wife and produce babies'' she said putting on a voice and we both laughed as I heard nick leave the room and go down stairs ''how long have you been playing?'' she asked me a smile returning to her lips ''since I was about 7 years old'' I answered she nodded ''tomorrow nick and elice are going hunting to restock the fridge for you'' she said a huge smile on her face but her eyes were begging me not to get to excited I just nodded ''so you'll be looking after me?'' I asked a large grin plastered on my face Carmen's eyes glared at me and I knew I had to calm down or nick would notice that I was way to excited ''yip and ive got a really girly day planned for us make overs and things like that'' Carmen said her voice going up a octave. Both Carmen and I sat in the music room for a few more hours till I got tired ''I think im going to bed'' I said rubbing my eyes Carmen just nodded ''night'' she said as I left the room I went to my room to see nick sitting on the dark blue chair in the corner of my room ''gosh you almost scared me to death'' I said my hand over my dead heart and nick started laughing so much he almost fell off of his chair ''what?'' I said trying to think what would be so funny I thought over what id said ''oh'' I said and started laughing but not quiet as much as nick. I got changed while nick was still chuckling to him self while he watched me I got in bed and lay down I was just about asleep when I heard nicks voice from the corner of my room ''Leah'' he said probably seeing if I was awake I should have just ignored him ''yeah'' I said rolling over so I would be facing his direction he set a book down on his lap and looked up at me ''are you still angry with me?'' he asked his eyes pleading I really didn't want to answer this question but I knew he would ask me tomorrow and the next day till I answered ''I guess not but'' I said in a serious voice ''you haven't forgiven me'' he finished matching my tone a angry inside me came to the surface but I swallowed it down ''no I haven't and don't know if I ever will'' I said softly and I felt sorry for him kind of ''its fine I understand but I just want you to know that I did it to save you'' his voice somber as he was by my side in a second his eyes sad I didn't know what to say but before I could even mutter a sound he walked back to his spot ''go to sleep Leah'' he said while his back was turned to me and I could have sworn that I saw a silvery tear fall from his eye ''night'' I said and fell into a dreamless sleep.
Chapter four
Lucky break
I woke to the feeling of some one staring a hole into my back I rolled over and opened one eye to see nick looking at me I had kind of hoped he'd be gone before I woke up but no such luck he knew I was awake so no point in pretending I decided as I sat up ''good morning'' nick said a small smile on his lips I just nodded and got out of bed and went to have a shower trying not to think about what Carmen said to me last night. After I finished in the shower and had I gotten changed ''so where's Carmen?'' I asked sitting on the bed nick was still in his corner ''oh she's down stairs elice is talking to her I suggest you don't listen in its rather boring really'' he said lightly ''oh ok then'' I said and started to swing my legs wondering when nick was going to leave ''oh I almost forgot Carmen's going to take you hunting today'' nick said and I almost fell off the bed I ran what Carmen had said to me last night through my head it seemed to me that nick and elice weren't supposed to know ''when you two were talking last night I felt your excitement then confusion Carmen shouldn't have told you that without us knowing'' nick gave me a stern look ''so is that what elice and Carmen are talking about?'' I asked and he nodded in reply ''so what's going to happen?'' I asked hoping id still get to go outside I hadn't stopped thinking about the boy Nate from the forest ''well elice and I think you'll will be good for Carmen and we trust you'' I could feel the grin spread across my face without even thinking I ran over to nick and hugged him ''thank you so much'' I yelled and then froze realizing what I was doing ''sorry'' was all I said as I jumped back a few feet and peeked up at nick who looked between confused angry and happy he finally settled for a strained smile before walking out of my room I mentally slapped myself but I didn't have long to dwell because Carmen came bounding up the stairs and burst into my room I quickly forgot about nick and thought about the day to come it was safe for us to go outside today because it was cloudy. Carmen had a big smile on her face ''ok here are the rules no running away from me and we have to be back by like 9pm tonight'' Carmen said trying to act like a teacher or some thing if we didn't have to be back till 9pm and it was only 11am the clock on the wall read ''when are we leaving?'' I asked ''in about 10 minutes is that alright?'' Carmen asked and I nodded my head quickly ''yip where are we going?'' ''just into the forest'' Carmen replied a picture of a boy with dark brown hair and green eyes popped into my head I wanted to see him again ''what do I need to wear?'' I asked walking over to my closet and opening the big doors ''what your wearing is fine'' Carmen replied I sighed I was wearing black skinny jean knee high boots a purple t-shirt and a leather jacket ''ok lets go'' I heard from behind me and with that carmen and I headed down stairs. Standing at the door way was nick and elice just about to leave we walked up to them ''now you two be careful ok we wont be far just a few towns over carmen if anything goes wrong call me ok'' elice said to carmen and I ''yeah yeah we will be fine'' carmen shook it off after a few more warnings from elice they left nick not saying a word ''come on lets go before she changes her mind and comes back'' carmen said grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the forest and we started running and laughing. After I had caught a few dear I turned to Carmen who was perched in the tree next to me ''Carmen can I...... um can we.... I .....Uh'' I stumbled out my words and Carmen looked at me and laughed ''just spit it out already Leah'' she said laughing again ''you know how last time I sunk out of the house'' I said and she nodded ''yea and you met that human'' she said matter of-factly ''nate his name was nate'' I said ''ok what ever what about him'' she said eyeing me suspiciously ''well I want to go see him again'' I blurted out carmen looked confused ''oh I don't know I guess you were ok last time but I don't know how good it would be for the boy oh what the hell but your not going in there ok just a look'' she said sternly I smiled ''ok I promise thank you'' and with that I followed my scent till I found a hint of his human scents don't hang around very long we took to the trees till we got to his house. He was in the garden weeding or something and I couldn't control myself I had to talk to him I jumped down out of the tree I was in before carmen could do a thing ''Leah you promised'' she said ''I know I wont hurt him please carmen let me do this'' I asked her and she sighed then nodded and I smiled at her. I turned my attention back to the boy who was now turning around I walked far enough out of the tree line so he would see me and he did at first he looked confused but then smiled and started walking towards me I took a few steps back and began walking slowly into the forest knowing he would follow me ''hay wait up'' he called I stopped and turned to face him he smiled once more ''hay I haven't seen you around out here'' he said a few feet away from me ''I haven't had a chance to get outside'' I said I looked up and saw carmen in the tree behind the boy watching me ''oh im nate by the way'' he said and outstretched his hand towards me I looked at it for a few seconds and then hesitantly shook it ''your freezing'' he stated and I rubbed my hands together ''I forgot my gloves'' I said and smiled a confused expression crossed his face ''why did you come to my house just know and the other day?'' he asked and I truly didn't know what to do I looked up at carmen who whispered to low for the boy to hear ''oh me and my family just moved here and I was taking a walk having a look around and I didn't expect to find your house or for you to follow me back into the forest'' I said slowly looking at the ground ''oh ok well welcome are you going to go to school here?'' he asked I looked at carmen who nodded ''yea I am'' I said smiling I heard footsteps behind me and I turned around slowly to see carmen approaching ''hay Leah here you are ive been looking all over aunt elice said its time to come back inside I figured you'd be out here some where'' she said smiling as she stood by my side ''oh hi im carmen'' carmen introduced herself to nate who looked shocked but shook her hand ''hi im nate'' he said ''well I better go'' I said to nate with a small sad smile ''ok will I see you again?'' he asked ''I don't know'' I said ''well ok then'' carmen and I turned and started to walk away ''it was nice to meet you nate'' carmen yelled over her shoulder ''nice to meet you too bye'' he said as soon as he started walking away we took to the trees and hunted without saying a word for the rest of the night.
Chapter 5
Power
We were still hunting when Carmen suddenly stopped dropping the baby deer she had just caught. I turned to look at her a worried expression on her face 'Carmen what is it?'' I asked walking over to her ''wait here'' she said not looking at me I froze wondering what was up ''don't move until I come back ok'' she said turning to face me when she was a few meters away I just nodded and then she was gone I waited and waited but knew I shouldn't move. Then I caught a scent I didn't recognize it seemed like all the animals went quite and I froze ''why hello there'' said a female voice from behind me I turned around as quickly as I could about 10 yards away stood a short blond woman who looked to be in her late 30's her blue ice pale and cold eyes looked me up and down I couldn't bring myself to speak at this moment I just stood there like a deer in head lights and the woman laughed it was high pitched ''who are you'' I managed to whisper this made the woman laugh even more I didn't know if she was a vampire or what but she defiantly wasn't human her scent was too sharp ''never mind that child I was sent here to come get you as a favor to a friend of mine victor. He sent some one a few weeks ago but he never came back so ive been waiting for the right time to come get you, since those vampires of yours never leave you alone it was rather hard. I was hoping maybe the vampire nick would be with you kill two birds with one stone I guess you could say'' she finished her little speech and I was really confused ''why would you want nick here?'' I asked my eye brows drawing together ''oh they haven't told you oh well I guess ill do the honors. Back when nick was changed victor found out about his little gift and wanted nick to join our coven of sorts but elice hid him from victor. Victors been chasing after nick ever since, you see victor likes to have unusual beings in his coven ones with extra gifts stronger powers from their kind that sort of thing. Of course victor can sense these things other wise how would he find these diamonds in the rough. Now where you come in my darling is he saw you a few months back and sensed something special about you so he sent Pablo to get you of course elice got you and killed Pablo victor wasn't to happy about another one of his soon to be members slipping through his fingers again. So here I am'' she finished confidently a light bulb clicked above my head the time for talking was over all the muscles in my body tensed ''know we can do this the easy way or the hard way'' the woman said shifting on her feet hell no was I going to go easy carmen had told me that young vampires are just about stronger than anything out there. I lowered into a crouch ready for action ''ok then the hard way it is'' she smirked I didn't know how to fight or how to kill this woman but I was going to try. Her body started to vibrate more and more I had no idea what she was and where Carmen was I hope she was on her way back. Then it happened there was no longer a woman standing in front of me she had changed into a giant mountain lion I was shocked what was she I had no idea but I didn't have long to think about it because she launched herself at me I raised my arms in protection and something strange happened two trees ripped out of the ground and came crashing down on the lion/woman thing she now lay on the ground still in her lion form squirming she was trapped under the trees I had no idea how it happened I looked around hopping to find some one else who could have done that but no one I looked at my hands they were glowing slightly a faint green color ''what the fuck'' I whispered the woman had now changed back and was laughing I looked up to see her lifting the trees off of her I tensed again ready for her to attack me again I stretched out my arm in front of me my palms facing her I didn't understand how I did it before but I was sure if she attacked again I would be able to do what ever I just did again. My hands started to glow even more as the woman changed back to a lion, she shook her self then jumped at me but this time every thing went slowly. As she was flying through the air I spotted a massive boulder I pointed one arm at it and it lifted off of the ground I twitched my fingers and it started to spin in mid air, the lion was still in the air I flung my arm towards the lion and the boulder followed and collided with the lion she fell limp to the ground and didn't move I could hear her heart beat slow as she changed back to a human. I stood there as I could hear her heart stutter and then stop. I took a ragged breath in I had just killed some one and I didn't even feel bad ''oh my god'' I heard nick say I turned to look at him a wide grin on his face. We locked eyes for a moment before I started to break down silver tears falling down my face nicks smile faded as he walked over to me and gave me a hug I hugged him back tears staining his shirt ''ssshhhhh'' nick cooed rubbing my back and I realized that I no longer felt angry at nick for killing me because it wasn't his fault victor was the one to blame ''im sorry nick it wasn't your fault your were just trying to save me from him I forgive you even though its me who should be the one wanting forgiveness'' I stammered my tears slowing nick held me by my shoulders and looked me in the eyes ''you wanting forgiveness you haven't done anything wrong are you kidding me'' nick chuckled and hugged me again I let out a nervous laugh nick let go of me after a while and his eyes fell on the body of the woman I killed just moments ago I turned and faced her to all my tears gone ''what are we going to do about her?'' I asked turning to nick who looked as if he was thinking hard about something ''do you know who she is?'' he asked me ''she didn't say her name but said victor sent her and he also sent Pablo'' I said my voice just as cold and hard as nicks he gave me a serious look ''I thought it might have been victor I just didn't want to believe it'' he said shaking his head ''I guess we bury her deep in the woods and we should probably clean up some of these trees''-he turned to look at me the smile back on his face-''I guess im not gonna get on your bad side if we are any where near the forest'' he said I let out a sigh ''so I guess that's my power eh'' I said and nick just nodded ''come we better get this cleaned up'' ''ok lets do it'' I replied and started picking up the large body the was on my enemy I moved it back over to where id seen it we continued to clean up in silence. I didn't see where nick put the body but I hope it was some where very far away.
Chapter 6
Training
Nick and I were out in the back yard training it had been a week since id found out what my power was and we had been training ever since it turns out its not just thing in a forest I can manipulate its all the elements earth, fire, water and air it felt amazing the first time I lifted water and turned it into ice id also learnt how to make myself look human which only really gave me my tan back. Most days nick or Carmen would help me train and I was aloud outside a lot more but still not by myself elice was to worried that victor would send another member of his coven after nick and me so I was never alone. ''Leah come on concentrate'' nick said firmly pulling me out of my thoughts I snapped my head up and focused on the rock in front of me I focused on the glowing if my hands and it grew brighter I lifted my hand and swung it around and the rock followed it flew up in the air and landed in the basket already half full of rocks. Nick clapped ''well done Leah you got it on the first try'' he said a smile on his face ''how about a break'' he said and I nodded doing all of this training made me hungry not to mention sleepy ''ok'' I said happily. I hadn't seen nate in a week and I was worried about him I hoped that none of victors coven saw me with nate I really didn't want them to use him to get to me because I knew that I wouldn't let him die I would do anything to save his life even if it meant mine. Nick and I walked into the house and towards the kitchen where carmen was sitting at the bench two bottles of blood beside her I smiled at her as she handed me a bottle I immediately felt better after having a drink my throat felt silkier I sat down beside carmen nick was still standing in the door way. No one but Carmen knew about how id met nate in the woods more than once and I planned to keep it that way nick would get all protective and elice would tell me it would be to dangerous carmen had agreed not to tell them and I was thankful for that. I was so excited that I could make myself look human because it meant I would be able to go to school and socialize with humans I knew that school had already started so there would be no holding me back ''I want to go to school'' I said out loud for the first time carmen and nick looked at me carmen smiled nick pressed his lips into a tight line and then elice walked in.
After a hour of talking it through we decided that I was ready to go to school I had to make myself look human which wasn't really hard and I wasn't aloud to use my powers in front of any human nor was I aloud to say any thing about being a vampire which I knew already. I would start school in two days our back ground story was that elice was our aunt we just moved from L.A because Carmen's parents died three years ago and elice only just found out then that they were related I was in foster care and elice adopted me and nick is elice's son. Nick and I were being 17 and Carmen 16. ''ok so now that's sorted im going to ring the school. You guys can go get your school stuff from in town ok'' we all nodded after nick talked with elice on what to get for school we set off into town in nicks car it was a black bmw with a dark tint on the glass. It wasn't far into town no one spoke until we arrived. Nick pulled over in front of a book store and then turned around ''ok you two can go off and do some thing in town I got this covered ok'' nick said a small smile on his lips when he looked at him ''ok sweet'' was all carmen said as she got out of the car I had to take a moment to make my self look human I could feel the change happening to my skin and my teeth going in a little I opened my eyes and turned to nick before I got out of the car ''thanks'' I said and then got out. Carmen came over to me and grabbed my hand ''come on were going shopping'' and off we went there wasn't many shops or people for that matter in town. We walked into a shop for teen age girls and carmen raced off I walked around looking at some of the clothes as carmen got just about every thing off of the rack ''hi can I help you?'' I turned around to see a girl a little older than me maybe 18 with black pants and a purple shirt on clearly the dress code for the workers ''uh no thank you'' I said but she didn't leave ''I haven't seen you around here before'' she said looking along the same rack I was ''yeah me and my family just moved here'' I said giving her a soft smile ''oh where from?'' she asked naturally as any one would ''from L.A'' I answered looking at a pair of jeans that looked nice ''oh ive always wanted to go to L.A..'' she was cut off by another customer who just came in ''oh excuse me I just need to see if this lady needs some help'' she said and walked off I looked around the store some more until carmen pulled me into the dressing room to try on some clothes she picked out. After awhile of trying on new clothes I had at least enough out fits to last my first 3 weeks of school carmen had really good taste in clothes. Don't get me wrong I love to shop but I just didn't feel like it today and Carmen seemed happy enough doing it for me. After we brought all the clothes we headed out side. The cold air whipped my hair around in the air as we walked down the street I could see nick leant up against his car waiting for us a smile appeared on his face when he saw us. ''I said go do something not clean out a whole store'' he said between laughs as we put our bags in the car Carmen slapped him on the back of his head I just laughed. We drove home nick still chuckling ''you know it wasn't that funny'' Carmen said a little annoyed of course that made him laugh even more carmen kept saying thins under her breath the whole car ride back.
Chapter 7
School
It was 7am Monday morning my first day at anima high school. Nick was at my door waiting for me to finish getting ready since he was driving Carmen was still getting ready as well. I had no idea what to wear I had two outfits to choose from after much debate I decided to wear black skinny jeans, knee high black boots, a purple knit top, jacket and a purple beanie my hair was out the loose curls falling down past my shoulder blades. I walked out of my wardrobe ''ok I think im ready'' I said to nick who looked relieved I rolled my eyes and brought in all my energy I could feel my skin changing and my teeth shortening I went all day yesterday looking human just to get my self ready for this long day. I opened my eyes and looked in the mirror my skin a light golden brown I looked just how I used to I looked innocent I grabbed a eye liner and applied some onto my eyes and then I was ready to go. ''ok lets go'' I said and nick stood up ''you look great'' he said a smile on his lips ''thanks'' I said and surprised my self by hugging nick ''im ready lets go'' Carmen yelled from down stairs nick and I let go of each other and headed down stairs.
The school student parking lot was about half full when we arrived all the students looked at us as we drove past they said things like ''who's that'' ''nice car'' among other comments we pulled up in a empty spot. I caught sight of Nate as I got my bag out of the boot of the car and I was glad he didn't see me. ''you'll be fine'' nick said giving me a shoulder hug he must of felt my nerves of course they weren't about fitting in they were about nate. I smiled up at nick and he let his arm fall as we walked into school. Nick and I choose not to take the same classes I thought it would seem weird so we decided to have three classes together and that's it. Every one looked at me as I headed to my locker the school wasn't big so it was easy to find my classes. As I entered my homeroom every kid stared at me and whispered things as I sat down. ''I saw her walking with a really hot guy'' ''she's from L.A she came into my sisters store two nights ago'' I tried not to move while the other kids were talking about me ''Im gonna go talk to her'' said a male voice then I heard foot steps coming closer. Some one leant up against the desk in front of me and cleared their throat I looked up to see a tall boy with dirty blond hair blue eyes he looked like the schools jock and I was guessing he probably thought he was king of this school boy was I about to push him off his high horse. I put on a fake smile ''yes'' I said in my sweetest voice ''hi im mike and your name is?'' he said chewing his gum he reached out his hand for me to shake ''im Leah'' I said while I shook his hand lightly ''a beautiful name for a beautiful girl'' he said I let out a fake giggle did this crap actually work on girls gosh ''so leah why would a pretty girl like you be in a place like this?'' he ask gesturing a hand around the room ''oh I moved here from L.A with my family'' I said twirling my hair around my finger mike's smile grew bigger right then the teacher came in ''mike do you mind not harassing the new student we don't need to scare the poor girl'' said the teacher she must be about 29 she had her long brown hair and brown eyes she looked as though she might have been a model when she was a teenager ''I wasn't harassing her Mrs. Harper just talking'' mike replied giving me a wink which was creepy I just smiled ''I don't care just go sit down ok'' she said laughing mike did what she said but not before saying ''ill see ya later'' to me and then walked to his seat a few rows across ''alright class we have a new student her name is leah and she is from L.A ok so be nice show her around if you see her lost im Mrs. Harper by the way leah'' she said looking at me I just smiled and nodded I was trying to think of a way to knock mike off of his high horse this may take a little extra planning. After Mrs. Harper read out the announcements the bell rung every one was out in a matter of minutes I was just outside the door where mike was waiting for me I put on my fake smile ''hi'' I said holding my books on my side I could tell people were listening ''do you want me to show you the way to your next class'' mike said but before I could answer nate walked over and stood beside me ''hay leah is this guy bothering you?'' nate asked sounding a little annoyed ''oh bug off nate she's not yours'' mike said with a smile on his face this was my chance ''oh I must of forgotten to tell him babe oh my bad mike nate and I are together'' I said smiling grabbing nates hand it was really warm he flinched at first but then caught on to my plan ''yea sorry mikey'' nate said mikes face dropped ''oh didn't know you could get a girl nate well done'' mike said sarcastically anger started to build in me ''well it was hard to get hold of this one what with all those girls hanging off of his every word but I think he picked the right girl'' I said laughing and acting like nate and I had known each other for years ''oh'' mike said ''come on nate ive got to get to class bye mike ill see ya later'' I said pulling nate with me I could feel mike staring after us as soon as we were around the corner I dropped nates hand ''thank you so much that guy was so annoying'' I said to nate and smiled naturally nate laughed ''any time that guy think he owns every girl in this school'' nate said a big smile on his face there were still a few kids in the halls ''yeah I guessed as much hay I got to go to class cya'' I said and started to walk away ''bye see you later leah'' nate said quietly. I was the last one to get to music I quickly took my seat next to nick luckily class hadn't started yet ''where have you been your late'' nick said sounding like a teacher ''I got lost'' ''right class today I want you in pairs and to write and compose a two minute song you can choose your pairs you will present the song at the end of the week ok go'' said a man in his mid 40's with balding hair and fully black clothes. Nick and I went together I already had a song that I wrote when I was human I sung and played it to nick and he agreed that we should do it. The rest of the day went pretty fast mike didn't bother me and Nate and I didn't get a chance to talk. Carmen had already made friends by lunch so she sat with them nick and I sat at our own table we both brought food and I ate some and it was so yuck I spat it out ''eww human food is just gross'' I said and nick laughed I looked around the lunch room every table was full with kids chatting away about what they did on the weekend. A few tables were talking about me and Nate ''go ask her lily'' a girl said to a short blond girl who looked sweet her and her friends were just talking about what happened with Nate, mike and myself of course they wanted to know if it was true I looked up to see the girl lily walking over to me when she reached our table nick looked up a surprised look on his face ''um are you leah?'' she asked me and I nodded ''is it true about you and nate?'' she asked I wondered why she was asking maybe she had a crush on nate hmmm ''no not at all that guy mike was hitting on me nate turned up it was just a joke so mike would stop annoying me'' I said with a smile I could feel nicks watching me lily sighed and a smile appeared on her face ''oh ok great thanks oh im lily by the way'' she said happily ''nice to meet you lily this is nick by the way'' I said pointing to him I think she almost fell over when she looked at him I hadn't really thought much about it but every girl in the room was staring at nick ''hi ive got to go bye'' she said in one breath and then left. ''who's Nate and mike?'' nick asked I told him the whole story and he relaxed a little but I could see him keeping a eye on Nate. The rest of the day went smoothly mike stayed away from me, no one else asked me about Nate and I didn't get thirsty I thought my first day would be horrible I thought id be wanting to kill every kid in the school but surprisingly I kept my cool even though the smell made my throat burn I knew I couldn't kill anyone I just wouldn't be able to live with that and I have a long time to live.
Chapter 8
Fun and games
It was my third day of school the work wasn't to hard I found it a lot easier to learn things than from when I was a human. I mostly kept to my self a few people talked to me though I found them boring nick told me I had to start making a effort with people if I ever wanted to fit in so that was my goal for today to make at least one friend. I was sitting in homeroom waiting for Mrs. Harper to arrive mike had heard that Nate and I had played a joke on him. ''so you and Nate never weren't a thing'' he said leaning against the desk in front of me chewing a piece of gum loudly I looked up and smiled at him ''wow how long did it take you to figure that out'' I said venom seeping into my voice and into my mouth but I swallowed it back ''I knew nate couldn't get a girl like you'' he said sounding annoyed crossing his arms over his chest. I took a deep breath and stood up and leant over my desk ''well you certainly would never get a girl like me'' I said really annoyed he just laughed ''oh honey I cold get you easy'' he said confidently it was my turn to laugh ''one im not your honey, two I really really doubt that no im positive you couldn't get a girl like me'' letting venom into my voice oh how I would really like to suck this boy dry of all his blood. With seconds nick was in the room ''Leah can I talk to you for a second'' nick said more of a order than a request once he was at my side I turned and looked at him ''sure'' I said my voice hostile I picked up my books and if looks could kill mike would be lying on the ground without a breath left in him. Nick started pushing me out of the room stupid emotion feeler thingy. We kept walking until we were in the parking lot ''what is wrong with you I tell you to make some friends and you almost kill some kid'' nick said loudly I let out a breath ''that was mike and I wasn't going to kill him not in front of all those kids any ways'' I said smiling nick wasn't as happy about that as I was ''I don't care what mike does you will not harm him in any way ok promise me'' he said sternly my smile faded ''fine I promise'' I said and nick laughed as he leant up against his car ''what's so funny?'' I said clutching my books to my chest ''your face was price less'' he said after he recovered and he started walking back to class ''hay why didn't you just use your powers on me?'' I asked as I ran to his side ''well you probably would have tried to kill me when we got home and I wouldn't have been able to get you to promise not to harm him'' he said as we walked into a hallway just as the bell for first hour rung students started to fill the halls ''yea your probably right I would have kicked your ass'' I said laughing as nick walked away knowing he could hear me he waved over his shoulder and rounded a corner. I started to walk to my first class which was p.e at first I didn't think it would be a very good idea to do p.e but elice said it would be good for me to practice my human reflexes so that was that. When I got to the gym changing rooms it was almost full I found a empty corner and started to change into a pair of black pants and a purple t-shirt the school didn't have a uniform so I thought this would be appropriate. I looked around to see that most of the girls were wearing mini shorts and tank tops, even though they would freeze stupid teen age girls doing anything for attention. I remembered the days when I used to do the same thing to get the attention of some boy I had changed so much since I was turned this thought brought back memories of my friends and family and I stood frozen at the door ''hay are you ok?'' a girl with short caramel brown hair wearing the same thing as me asked me ''oh yeah im fine'' I recovered and walked through the door. ''im Casey by the way'' the girl said to me holding out her hand ''im Leah'' I said shaking her hand she walked with me into the gym ''so Leah where are you from?'' Casey asked as we waited for the teacher to start talking it was really loud in the gym just about every kid was talking I took a deep breath and tuned them out ''L.A'' I said quietly Casey just nodded. I heard a group of boys enter I didn't need to turn around to know who it was mike's loud voice echoed around the gym ''great'' I said under my breath ''you don't like mike?'' casey asked and I shook my head I heard her sigh ''oh thank god a girl who isn't totally obsessed with that jerk'' she said smiling I smiled ''he's been flirting with me ever since I got here I even pretended to be with another guy not even that worked'' I said and she laughed ''oyeah I heard about that pity it didn't work'' she said letting out a laugh and I joined in ''yeah it really'' but I got cut off ''oh heres my girl leah'' said mike slinging a arm over my shoulder and I shook him off ''I told you im not your girl'' I said taking a step away from him ''mike can you come and set up the volley ball net please'' said our teacher ''cya later'' he said and walked away a few seconds after he left I felt I hard tap on my shoulder I turned around to come face to face to a blond bimbo with the shortest shorts on that I have ever seen she was about a inch shorter than me and slim ''stay away from my man ok'' she said I let out a laugh ''he cant be much of your man if he keeps following me around like a lost puppy and please take him he's annoying the fuck out of me'' I said smiling ''humph'' she mumbled and with a flip of her blond hair she walked away ''who the hell does she think she is?'' I asked casey who was laughing ''oh her that was Sophia a total bitch she thinks she's the most popular girl in school of course most people hate or fear her'' casey said laughing again ''hmm I think she might need to be scared of some one'' I said smiling casey smiled ''you know I think you and me are going to be good friends. What are you planning?'' Casey said ''you'll see'' I said ''right class today we are doing volleyball im going to put you into teams of 6's ok'' Mr. Mar said and started to call out names casey and I were on the same team along with four boys I didn't know but soon learnt there names were Tye, Sam, Eric and Danny all four looked fit. The first game we played Sophia's team I tied my hair up into a high pony tail it was my turn to serve I knew exactly where the ball was going to go ''come on hurry up im board'' Sophia said looking at her nails this was going to be to easy. I threw the ball in the air and sent it hurtling towards Sophia's head every one watched as the ball met Sophia's face she looked up a angry expression on her face my whole team started laughing and so did hers ''sorry maybe you should pay more attention to the game'' I said and started laughing ''what's going on over here?'' Mr. Mar asked ''she served the ball right at my head sir'' Sophia wined ''that's just silly Mr. Mar Sophia just wasn't paying attention to the game'' Casey said in my defense and my whole team agreed ''right Sophia do you want to go get a ice pack'' he said and she nodded ''right carry on Casey's teams point'' he said we carried on playing and won the rest of our games ''way to go leah you're a machine'' sam said to me tye, danny, eric and casey nodded ''thanks we wouldn't have won if you guys weren't there'' I said giving casey a pat on the back ''hay you should come sit with us at lunch'' danny said ''yeah it would be nice to have a girl to talk with at lunch'' casey added ''sure is it ok if I bring my friend nick?'' I said not wanting nick to feel like I ditched him ''sure is that that guy you sit with at music?'' sam asked running his hand through his black hair I hadn't realized that id had music with sam ''yeah he is'' I said ''ok sweet see you at lunch Leah'' the boys said as they went to get changed. Casey and I got changed and she walked with me to my next class. Before I knew it, it was lunch I caught up with nick who was waiting for me at our table ''hay ive got some where else for us to sit come on'' I said to nick who smiled I grabbed his hand and I saw casey waving her hand ''leah over here'' I let go of nicks hand and we walked over to casey's table and sat down ''nick this is casey, sam, danny, eric and tye'' I said pointing to each one sam and eric almost looked related with their black hair and blue eyes danny was pale with blond hair and brown eyes and tye had dark skin, dark hair and blue eyes which I thought looked unusual. They all exchanged hello's and hi's ''so are you two together, related or what?'' Danny asked his voice full of curiosity nick and I looked at each other and laughed ''no not at all my mum adopted Leah s few months ago and carmen three years ago so I guess were brother and sister kind of'' nick said lightly. The rest of lunch we talked about our selves and why we moved I was glad nick answered all the questions. Nate walked up to our table he'd been staring at me from his table for the last ten minutes and finally built up the courage to come and talk to me. ''hay Leah'' he said quietly ''hay Nate''-I turned to look at every one else-''do you guys know Nate?'' I asked and tye nodded ''sup bro how's it going?'' he asked Nate smiled and sat down tye and him started talking they were like that the rest of lunch. Once the bell rung every one went off to their classes ''so Leah is nick seeing anyone?'' Casey asked and I laughed ''um I don't think so but im sure I could see if he likes you?'' I asked casey smiled ''only if you want to'' she said smiling ''hay there's a party on Friday night you should come bring nick with you if you'd like'' she said when we were just out side my French class ''sure id love to'' I said ''ok ill get you and nick a invite bye'' she said and walked away.
