I hold up a hand as Mac and Rex come barrelling in behind me. I stare into familiar hazel eyes similar to my mates. Vane Greyson's piercing gaze assesses my form, from top to bottom.
I growl lowly, my fists clenching tightly against my sides. It takes everything in me not to clock him from taking her from me, but I manage to hold on to my temper just by an inch. His tall form is similar to Vince's, however his shoulders and arms are much more muscled. His black inky hair is slightly grey at the temples, the ends curled behind his ears.
He clicks the safety on, before pulling the gun back and placing it into the back of his jeans. He eyes the two behind me and signals them to step outside with a tip of his chin. Mac growls lowly, his eyes showing defiance at another Alpha's commands.
I hold up a hand, signalling to Mac to leave but to stay close by. As soon as the door closes, I straighten and head to Lina's bedside. I don't bother to keep my eyes on her father, if he wanted me dead, he would have done it already.
I slide my fingers against the side of her face, warm tingles running through my arm at the first contact. Bending down I press a kiss against her forehead, losing my composure for just a slight second as she nuzzles into me.
"What is the meaning of this Vane?" I question him as I lean back, my eyes on her the entire time. I hear him shuffle forward, until I see his jean clad legs on the other side of Lina's bed. He watches me closely for a couple minutes before answering. "When did you imprint?" I pull back from her and take the seat behind me. She whimpers at the loss of contact making my wolf growl lowly, I thread my fingers with her hand laying right in front of me hoping to calm her some.
"She imprinted on me." I say back quietly. My mind playing the memory back like as if it were yesterday. "Even with her wolf dormant she managed to imprint on me" His hazel eyes continue to watch me, his facial expression impassive. "Does she know what you are?" I nod, my eyes still on her.
"Did you hurt my daughter Kane?" My eyes find his immediately, letting him see nothing but the truth. "Not intentionally. We had a misunderstanding"
He continues to watch me before turning to look down at Lina. "As you should know it is said that the Alphas daughter is most likely to mate with the son of my Beta"
I turn towards him fully now, my hackles rising at his words. "She was promised to the son of my beta" I surge to my feet in an instant, the chair toppling back with a loud thud. My lips curl back with a snarl, "Void it, she's found her mate" I growl lowly.
He stands and presses a kiss against her forehead. Turning towards me he rolls his neck before answering, "That's for her to decide." I growl lowly, my hands fisting at my sides.
This man was fucking insane, borderline stupid as shit if he thought I would stand back and let my Lina be with someone other than me. I feel the familiar heat curl within me as a flash of white hot desire shoots through me.
"Kane."
My eyes are on hers in an instant. She watches me closely her eyes weary as she continues to soothe a hand on my tense arm. I heave out a loud breath before moving back to her bedside. Not giving a damn about her father being in the same room, I grip the side of her face and press my lips against her own.
Her response is immediate and I don't hesitate to slip my tongue into her mouth. She makes that little noise I fucking love and I almost lose my shit. She pulls back slightly, air fanning against my lips as she sucks in a much needed breath.
"Mmm, I missed you" I smirk against her lips, a deep sense of male satisfaction thrums through me at her words. Pecking her lips once more I pull back some and turn towards her father who leans against the door with his arms folded across his chest.
Vane takes a deep breath before facing Lina head on. "Hello Katalina."

Lina.
I blink once, twice and then once more trying to see if my eyes were actually seeing the man in front of me. Familiar hazel eyes find my own, his black hair now greying at the sides. His tall build hasn't changed much but I'd put that down to werewolf genes. I stare at the man that I once called Father.
My brows crinkle in confusion as my mind works double time, flashes of me and Vince in the car, getting chased. To knocking myself out as we crashed. "I'm sorry mija. They were never supposed to harm you or your brother" I look up at him in realisation.
I hold his hazel brown eyes with my own before turning to the side. Moving my gaze to Kane, I signal him forward as I move to sit up. I sigh softly as Kane's hand wraps around my waist. "Where's my brother?" I grip Kane's hand and stand my legs wobbling slightly, gritting my teeth I force myself to still.
"Vince is in another room, I can-" I cut him off, "Look, I'm sorry but I don't have anything to say to you. I need to leave and so does my brother" he sighs deeply, his eyes almost vulnerable. "She wasn't my mate Lina" I pause momentarily, my eyes taking in his form slightly slouched against the door as he keeps his eyes on the floor in front of him. "I didn't leave because I didn't love your mother, I loved- love her very much"
My hands grip Kane's tighter, my heart constricting as I manage to put the pieces together. "Katherine was not my mate. I wished like hell she was especially when she was pregnant with Vince. At the time she did not know what I was, about our kind" His brows crease in the centre as his eyes glaze over.
"She found out accidentally."
I lick my lips as my throat dries. My- Vane rubs a hand down his face as he moves to sit in an arm chair in the corner, his eyes far far away. "I had explained to her about soulmates and how there was still a chance I will find mine. She gave me an option to leave her or to stay. I could, I should have left her then but instead I became selfish, and I stayed until we had you"
I feel the tears slide down my face. My heart torn in two at the secrets that my mother had kept hidden, as well as the heartache she had been carrying for all that time and alone with no one to help her with it all. Taking a calming breath I keep my eyes closed as I tighten my fingers around Kane's warm big palm.
"I'm sorry mija. I'm sorry for all the pain and suffering I caused my own children and my own wife. " he sighs deeply.
"I can't change my past Lina. I can't change what the moon goddess has presented me with" I see a tear slide down his cheek as he braces his arms on to the tops of his knees.
Wiping my cheeks, I take a shuddering breath as Kane turns me softly and nuzzles me into his chest. "Have a date set for the challenge. I don't care for where it shall be held"
Kane's chest rumbles with his words,he bends down slightly to lift me into his arms. I burrow my head into his neck, seeking comfort. "Until then, I'll be in touch. Alpha" I feel him walk towards the door.
"Lina" I keep my head hidden in Kane's neck at the sound of my fathers voice.
"For what it's worth, I really am sorry Mija" I peek over Kane's large shoulder as he stands, his hands in his pockets, eyes downcast. His shoulders are slumped slightly as a large chunk of hair slips over his forehead, if anything he looks like a young lost and vulnerable man. I nod once, before replying.
"Yeah, me too."

I'm so sorry that it took me foreverrrr to finish this damn chapter and I'm extra extra sorry it's soo damn short. As you can guess I had issues with how I wanted this to go. But now it's up and it's done, no turning back now.
