Nate's POV

I sat in my desk trying to focus on the lesson the teacher was instructing, trying so hard to cancel out the faint laughter at the back of my head. I looked out of the corner of my eye and caught a slight peek of Hector watching me.  He watched me with a playful gleam in his eye, and a mischievous smirk on his lips. I wanted to wipe that smirk off his face, my fingers curled tighter around my pencil making the wood crack from the pressure. I quickly looked away, the last thing I needed was to get kicked out of class because of a brawl with Hector.

"Okay, everyone sit next to your partner and begin the writing assignment for the last few minutes of the day."

Unfortunately, Dylan wasn't here so the paper was going to take even longer to complete. I groaned and put my pencil on the first blue line coming to a quick blank in thought. My ears trembled as the screech of a chair meet them on side of me. My eyes raised to my left and I quickly looked back to my blank paper.

"What's up, puta?" I could hear the laughter in his voice, not to mention the laughter of his friends in the back.

"What the hell do you want?" I growled.

"You know, when I first met your sister she was the most pitiful thing I ever saw. So needy." Hector laughed as if recalling a joyous memory.

I looked up at him with angry eyes, "Then why didn't you just leave her the hell alone?" I snarled. My life and hers would've been much easier if Hector had kept his distance.

"Why, would I do that? She's so easy to control. It was a fair trade; her body and heart, for my company. She completely belongs to me and no one can take her away. Not even her own twin."

"I might not be able to keep her away, but once she sees what a bastard you are she will leave you in the dust." I sneered with my hands balled in tight fist.

Hector smirked, "Then why isn't she gone?"

I raised my eyebrow, "She came to my apartment last night, caught me slobbering down a beautiful girl. She cried like a baby. I told my side piece to leave, then I laid her on the bed and did all kinds of things to her. Afterwards, I told her how much I loved her and all was forgiven."

"Wait, she caught you with everything!" I hissed.

"Even the drugs." Hector smiled, "So, as you can see, April will never leave me."

"What makes you so sure?" I asked him.

"Because... I won't let her." He hissed.

The bell rang and Hector left me speechless in an angry rage. I should've punched Hector right in his smug face. Grabbing my book bag I stomped out of the class and walked to the front of the school. When I see her I am going chew her out so bad.

"Nate." I looked to my left and saw April cautiously coming out the door.

I opened my mouth prepared to unlock hell's gate, "April, I can't believe you could be so-"

"Shut the fuck up, Nate! It's my turn to talk!" She yelled. I huffed and I puffed, and I shut the fuck up. I glared hard holes into her making her take in an uneasy breath. She looked at me and hugged me. I was so caught of guard that I stood like a statue.

"Nate, I'm so sorry I didn't listen to you! It was just I thought you were just keeping me from being happy." She cried gripping on to my shirt.

I wrapped my arms around her and out my chin on the top of her head, "I know we're not in the best place right now, but know that I would, could never hurt you. I was only trying to protect you." I held her tighter in my arms, this was the closest me and my sister had been in a long time.

Suddenly, April's body goes stiff, "Nate, can we go now?" She asks me in a weak voice.

I looked out the corner of my eyes and saw Hector heading for us. "April, hurry."

She took off to my car and I followed behind her. "April!" I heard Hector scream from behind us.

We both jumped inside the car and I quickly started it. "APRIL!"
April and I jumped at the sight of Hector banging on the passenger window.

"Baby, don't go! I love you!" Hector screamed.

April covered her ears, "Drive!" She yelled.

I floored it and left Hector tumbling in the gravel. Out the corner of my eye I saw April staring blankly at the hand prints on the window. A thin fracture connected them, she reached up and traced the crack with shaking hands before letting her hand drop into her lap. "Why now?" I asked.

She shook her head and croaked, "I don't want to hurt anymore."
I watched a tear slide effortlessly down her cheek leaving a trail in her makeup.

Later on that night I sat on the couch staring blankly at the TV. I was still so confused and happy at the same. I was happy because she finally left that dick, but confused because just a few days ago she was so in love with Hector. Now she's ready to leave him? Something else had to happen, but what?

Aunt Stephanie walked in with her keys and purse in hand she stopped in front of the TV and looked at me, "Nate, what are you sulking for?"

I rubbed a frustrated hand through my hair and sighed, "Auntie, I'm so confused."

"What is it?" She asked

"April broke up with Hector, but I don't know why."

"Who cares! That no good boy is gone and I'm happy. You should be too! Now stop sulking and go check on her." Auntie said before she walked out of the door.

I slouched in my seat and groaned. Maybe I should check on her, but first, to the restroom. I walked the restroom and threw the door open, a shriek came from inside. My mouth dropped open and my fist instantly clenched. I knew there had to be more.

Her one wide eye stared at me while her hand covered the other, but it was too late. I had already seen the purple around it and I was more pissed than ever. I stared at her, and her hand slowly lowered, tears flowed from her eyes, and her bottom lip trembled.
"Please, don't be mad." She whispered.

"That son of a bitch hit you!" I yelled.

"Nate, I'm not stupid! Yes, he hit me and I knew that was something I couldn't go back to! I left because I know when it's time to let go!"

"He still hit you! And no one touches my sister!" I grabbed April by the arm making her yelp in pain. She cried and pleaded for me to turn the car around, but I ignored her. We're heading straight to Hector's and I'm going to kick his ass. I parked the car and dragged her into the apartment building behind me.

"NATE HE'S NOT WORTH IT!" She screamed.

I ignored her, on my side Kathy and Dylan peeked out the door with curious eyes. "Nate, what going on man?" Dylan questioned.

"Babe, where are you going?" Kathy asked while they followed.

I ignored them both as I came closer to Hector's door, "Nate, please!" April screamed. I brought my fist down heavily on the door, it didn't open!

"Open this door you little bitch!" I screamed.

"Nate please calm down!" Kathy yelled.

I brought my foot up to the door and kicked against it. "Jesus! Nate!" April screamed.

I kicked against the door with each word, "That. Son. Of. A. Bitch. Is. Here. And I'm. Going. To. Beat him. Black. And purple!" The final kick brought the door down and the bastard stared back at me with a smirk.

Hector sat on his couch watching me, a tray of cocc in front of him. I stepped in the apartment, "You cheap fuck, you struck my sister!" I yelled.

Hector stood up and shrugged, "So what? I told her I'm sorry." He looked over my shoulder, "I see your still with the finest bitch in the building." I looked back at Kathy who had moved behind Dylan.

"Call my sister a bitch again and I will kill you before Nate does." Dylan said.

I felt April squeeze my hand, Hector laughed, "Don't worry April, Baby, you know she's nothing compared to you. Come on, baby." Hector took a step forward.

I pushed April towards Dylan, "Stay away from her." I hissed.

"Not happening, and even if I did stay away from her, who's to say she can stay away from me? She loves me to much to let go. She will never leave me." Hector smiled.

"We're over Hector."

Everyone, including me, froze. All of our eyes landed on April. The room was so cold and silent that I shivered. I had never been so proud of my sister.

"What?" Hector's fist tightened.

"Hector, I'm done with this relationship, and I'm done with you." She said.

"You bitch! I won't let you leave me!" Hector charged for April. Charged for my sister! I brought my arm back and slammed my fist into Hector's face. He gripped my shirt and pulled me on the floor with him.

We rolled and landed punched on each other until I was finally on top and landed blow after blow on his face. Then, I felt the sharpest pain go through my body. Hector pushed me off of him and everyone screamed. I looked down at my hand, slippery and covered in blood... my blood. Footsteps ran past me, and I heard their cries, "Dude, chill!"

"Stay away from me!"

"PUT THE KNIFE DOWN!"

"You're not leaving me!"

"APRIL!"

I tried to move but the pain that shot through my stomach, I groaned. "Nate!"

Dylan and Kathy rushed to my side, "I'll call the cops!" Dylan reached in his pocket and pulled out his phone.

"Baby, you're going to be okay! Just hold on!"

I groaned, "Where's April?"

Dylan took of his shirt and put pressure on my cut, "Dude, she's gone."

April's POV

My head ached from when Hector dragged from the apartment and stole Nate's car. I sat next to him listening to his rage.

"You're mine you stupid slut!"

"There's no fucking way I'm letting you walk out on me!"

"I thought you loved me!" Hector grabbed me and pressed his lips to mine. I pushed him away and he slapped me.

I winced and tears pricked my eyes, "Hector you're high! Let me go!"

I faxed out the window and saw that he had drove into a park area with trees everywhere. "You want to go, April!" Hector yelled.

"Yes!"

"Do you want to leave me!"

"YES!" I sobbed.

"Fine!" Hector pulled the car over and climbed out. He opened my door and dragged me out of the passenger's side by my hair, making me scream in pain. I was it by the sound of rushing water, and mid covered me as he dragged me to the water's edge. I screamed and squirmed but it only made his grip on my hair tighter.

"Hector, no!" I cried.

He dragged us out further until the water came to our knees. "This is the only way you're leaving me!" Hector screamed.

My head was pushed under water, the chill of it hit me like needles, I struggled under his hand and my chest grew tight. He pulled my head out of the water and screamed, "All you had to do was stay with me!"

But I loved you.

"I'm sorry, I just needed you so bad. I love you."

"I love you too."

"I thought you would never leave me!" Hector screamed.

"I'll see you tomorrow." He said, with hope in his eyes. I gave him a sad smile, and said, "No you won't."

I loved him so much. That was it, no air filled my lungs, my mouth and nose filled with water, my test tight, and the steady beat of my heart no longer steady but faint. I closed my eyes and tried to find strength.

"April? Baby come home."

I could see my parents reaching out to me, they smiled with calm looks of peace plastered on their faces. They were surrounded by a bright light and looked so happy, tears filled their eyes. I wanted to cry so bad. I'm...
