Friendship, a wonderful thing
Countless joys it does bring
The silhouettes of those memories past
Keep flooding my soul with joyous blasts.
Amidst those fruit-filled trees
A thistle with thorns I see
A cactus among carnations
Which gives me exasperation.
There was once a mighty tree
Now where the thorns grow free
Tall and elegant, strong and bold
'Twas a sight to behold.
One day I heard a great thunder
And I saw a lightning break it asunder
Nothing was left of that tree
There came on me a mourning spree.
The sight of the stump made me aghast
I restrained the thoughts of its glorious past
I let the cactus grow and mend
The spot of betrayal of my friend.
