"That can't be right." My mom cried
"I'm so sorry. We can't offer anything better for you either, the best is in Vancouver." The doctor spoke
"Vancouver?"
"I'm very sorry."
"Hey, we can figure this out. you stay and work, I'll go with Cory." My dad said
"NO! We stick together we're a family" she cried
"I know I know."
My body was twitching, I was having a mental breakdown. Cory, my little brother, I was supposed to protect him. Deep down I knew there was nothing I could have done, but I was still supposed to look out for him.
Shawn: [Things okay?]
Me: [Call me?]
"Hey"
"Hi"
"Things okay?"
"No, I wish you were here Shawn." I cried softly into the phone
"Sam, I'm so sorry. I wish I could be there, I know I do a lot of wishing, but I have no way to get there."
"I know."
"I know it's not the same, but I'm always a phone call away."
"Yeah, and a thousand miles away."
"I am so sorry Sammy."
"I don't mean to make you feel bad, I ju-"
"I know, you don't need to explain anything."
"Osteosarcoma."
"What?"
"Cory has bone cancer."
"Sam."
"You don't have to say anything."
"Can, can they help him?"
"Not here, my dad and Cory might be going to Vancouver."
"So you wouldn't be together?"
"Guess not, mom can keep her job, I can finish school, but still doesn't make sense."
"When are they leaving?"
"Not sure, soon probably, try and stop the cancer from spreading as soon as they can."
"So a few days?"
"Maybe tomorrow."
"Yeah, or that."
"Ugh, I hate this."
I tried to keep it together, but everything was telling me to fall apart. I couldn't listen to both, I couldn't do this. I needed Shawn here.
"I should go." I sighed
"Yeah, alright. Text me if you need to talk, tell your family we're all thinking of you guys."
"I will, thank you, Shawn."
"Love you."
"Love you too."
