The Wedding

Caroline ran her hands through her hair stressfully. She exhaled sharply as she signed the last letter. She closed the envelope and put a stamp on the back. She added that letter to the giant pile of invitations to her wedding. The pile seemed to never end as she signed letter after letter. The clock to her left read 8:50pm. She couldn't help but stare at the diamond ring on her finger. It sparkled in the light as she gazed at it.

Meanwhile, Klaus was at the tuxedo shop, trying on suits for the wedding while Caroline finished up invitations. It had been 5 months since Klaus had proposed. Their wedding was scheduled for June 1st. She had always wanted a summer wedding with twinkle lights in the backyard with live music and dancing. She lost herself in her imagination as she wondered about the possibilities of her wedding. She could just see herself walking down the aisle, all in white with Klaus waiting for her.

The door across the room swung open and Bonnie and Elena ran in. Caroline jumped in her seat in surprise. They both held bags from the dress shop across town. Big smiled were on their faces as they trampled in.

"Caroline!" Elena exclaimed. "We picked up your dress from Rebekah and the bridesmaid dresses from the store!" She pulled out a magnificent gown from a vintage bag. The cream and white fabric billowed out of the case in front of Caroline. Her jaw dropped. It was even more beautiful than in the picture in the advertisement.

"Rebekah found it in an old closet in New Orleans." Elena pulled out a matching veil and crown. "Apparently, it was Rebekah's wedding dress from years ago but the wedding never happened."

"Wow," Caroline breathed. Her mouth couldn't even form the words to say how thankful she was for the dress. She just managed to muster up the words to say, "It's gorgeous."

Bonnie smiled widely. Lately, she had been happier. Her transition as a vampire had gotten easier because Enzo was there with her the whole time. Klaus had turned him back and Bonnie was deeply grateful. Meanwhile, Elena had gotten comfortable with Damon as they started their life together. As she woke up to her mortal life, things weren't as wonderful as she expected it to be. Deep down, she regretted taking the cure because Damon couldn't grow old with her. Caroline thought back to when Bonnie turned Stefan human. It was a terrifying experience for him but, as they quickly learned, Klaus's blood had even more magical possibilities. He turned Stefan back into a vampire a few years after Stefan left Mystic Falls and before Cade had found him. So Klaus gave Elena a small vial of his blood if she ever wanted to use it. Elena hadn't taken it yet and Damon didn't pressure her into it either.

"We got the maroon bridesmaid dresses like you asked," interrupted Elena.

Caroline smiled and said, "Well let me see them!"

Bonnie and Elena pulled the out and displayed them. Four strapless dresses winked at her in the dim light. The maroon fabric flowed beautifully as she gazed at the dresses. She smiled satisfyingly and grinned at her best friends.

1 Month Later:

Caroline applied blush to her pale cheeks as she gazed into the mirror. Anxiety filled her stomach because today was her wedding day! She took a deep breath as she finished up her makeup. Her dress fit comfortably on her body and gorgeous jewelry adorned her neck. On her wrist, she wore her bracelet that Klaus gave her years ago. She touched it lovingly, and smiled softly as she thought of all the memories they shared together.

She glanced back into the mirror and examined her hair. It fell in ringlets around her face, framing it perfectly. The simple yet exquisite tiara rested on her head, winking at her in the light.

"Caroline?" a voice called. It was clearly Elena. She walked in along with Bonnie and her two girls, Lizzie and Josie.

"Girls," Caroline ran forward and fast as she could. "I'm so glad you are here."

Her two daughters ran forward and hugged her in unison. Over the years, Caroline had watched them grow up into two beautiful teenagers. They smiled and cried in Caroline's arms.

"Mom," Lizzie said," we missed you so much." Josie nodded in unison.

"I missed you too." She wiped a single tear away, hoping not to ruin her makeup.

Elena came forward and handed her a small box with a ribbon tied on it. She untied it and opened the box.

"They are all the components to your 'something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.'" Elena quoted.

Inside, there was a vintage looking flower pin that probably had to be at least 100 years old. It seemed to glow in the light. There was a brand new ring that was silver with an amethyst jewel on top with the inside engraved with With Love- Lizzie and Josie. She slid the ring on her middle finger on her right hand. Elena's necklace that Stefan had given her years ago also sat in the box. Elena took it and twisted it around her wrist. The very last object was a ribbon of gorgeous blue fabric. Realization hit her when she realized that it was from the dress she wore to Klaus's family party when they danced for hours. It was the night she first realized she loved him.

"I don't even know what to say," Caroline began. "It's all so beautiful. Thank you so much." She reached forward and hugged everyone while sniffling at the same time.

Bonnie then took the ribbon and fixed it around the tiara. She also pinned the pin on the front of her dress and smiled warmly. Words couldn't even explain the moment.

Tears brimmed her eyes as she glanced lovingly at her best friends and her two beautiful teenagers.

Interrupting the moment, Stefan walked in. "Sorry to interrupt the moment but it's time for the ceremony to begin." He smiled kindly, obviously back to his old self.

"Okay," Caroline said. "Let's do this." She grinned enthusiastically at her friend's and finally squealed, "I'm getting married!!"

They all laughed in unison as they separated for the beginning of the wedding. Damon came forward and grabbed Elena's arm as did Enzo grab Bonnie's.

The wedding music began beautifully as Lizzie and Josie started walking down the aisle. Lizzie held a small basket of white rose petals and she gently tossed onto the ground. Josie held the delicate pillow of rings as they both walked together. Following them, Damon and Elena walked together and Bonnie and Enzo followed.

Then it was the moment they had all been waiting for.

Caroline stepped into the light with nothing but a bouquet of beautiful white roses. She stepped slowly down the aisle. Every head turned to see her come down. At the end, Klaus waited patiently, marveling at her beauty. In the small crowd, she spotted Tyler, Matt, Alaric, Jeremy, Klaus's siblings and so many familiar faces. As she glanced up, she could've sworn she saw her mother watching her, smiling proudly. Caroline's breath caught but, in a blink of an eye, she was gone. Caroline smiled, knowing her mother was here in spirit, helping her along the way.

Eventually, she reached the end of the aisle. Klaus held his hand out and she took it. The priest from the local church stood between them.

She cleared her throat and began, "Today, we are here to represent the love between Klaus Mikaelson
and Caroline Forbes. These two souls have found their way into each other's lives in extraordinary ways. Now, Mr. Mikaelson, will you begin your vows?"

He nodded and began, "Caroline, from the first minute I met you, I have loved you. I can't even begin the explain the way I feel about you. As we continue our lives together, I will protect you with all my heart. I won't let anything happen to you... I love you too much to even begin to comprehend, love."

He finished his vows to let Caroline begin.

She grabbed his hand. "Klaus, I love you so much. For years, I was blind to see what connection we had. As we spent more time together, I realized there is no one I would rather be with than you. In the future, I will always stay by your side, no matter how hard life will get. I love you."

She finished her vows and gazed into his eyes. He grinned an innocent smile and squeezed her hand assuringly.

The priest continued, "Klaus Mikaelson, do you take Caroline Forbes as your lawfully wedded wife?"

Klaus replied softly, "I do."

"And do you, Caroline Forbes, take Klaus Mikaelson as you lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do," she breathed.

"I pronounce you now husband and wife," the priest confirmed, smiling.

Klaus stepped forward and grabbed Caroline's face gently and pulled her into a kiss. "I love you," he said, while breathing into the kiss.

She smiled and said, "I love you, too and I'm forever yours."
