Chapter #27- Heat (2.0)- Teague's Mate... and Alpha Ulysses' Heartbreak.

"Alpha Ulysses?" I knock on his door and poke my head in.
"Yes, Mate?" He asks not looking up from his laptop screen.
"It's 5 o'clock already. Can I leave?" I ask with crossed fingers.
"Wait for 10 minutes, okay? I'll take you home then..." He scratches his hair aimlessly, still not looking at me.
"Actually... I am not going home, Alpha" his head shots up at that.
"Where are you going then?" He asks slowly.
"I am going to the packhouse actually" His lips form an 'O'.
"Why? last time I checked, it wasn't your favorite place to stay in" He jabs.
"I promised my Mom that I'd visit" I wring my hands nervously.
"Cool. I'll come with you too then. Just wait outside, or better yet, come on in" He orders and damn my legs are moving on their own and seconds later, I am sitting on the chair in front of him.
I want to tell him that I don't want him to accompany me to the pack house... not because I don't want him there... but what if he can't control himself and he... you know... tries to kiss me or something in front of everyone?!
'More like what if you try to attack him in front of everyone' Sel adds her two cents.
'So you are back? Wolf bane's effect got over? How are you feeling?'
'You gave me wolf's bane?!' She shreiks.
'Not me babe. Our dearest Mate did' I taunt.
'He did?!'
'Uh huh'
'Why would he do that?' Her voice has turned all sad now.
'His Warrior, Olivia advised him to' I inform her.
'That bitch! I fucking hate her' she spits in my mind. I can feel her contempt towards the she-wolf and I am shocked.
Sir Nicholas' words ring in my mind.
"It is the she wolf Selene despises the most"
Teague's Mate is the wolf Selene despises the most... That would mean...
'She is actually a good person' I try to defend Olivia.
'Oh for Moon's sake, can you please not take her side?' My eyes widen.
'So... if you had to say... suppose I ask you which is the she wolf you hate the most, Sel? What would your answer be?'
'Are you really asking me that?' She snorts.
'Just answer the question, Sel. Close your eyes and picture the wolf you hate the most' I try to keep the desperation out of my voice.
'I don't even have to close my eyes for that, Del. It is that obvious'
'Okay... and?'
'It's her. Olivia. I hate that bitch for... being a Mate stealer' Sel says her name like it is a cuss.
'She didn't steal our mate from us. You can't hate her for something she didn't do' I try to defend the female warrior weakly.
'Whatever. I just hate her, okay? I don't need to justify my reasons to you' And with that she blocks me.
I can't even get myself to be angry at her because unknowingly as it is, she answered the question I was searching for.
She gave me a clue on how to get rid of the curse on Teague.

"Alpha?" I call out to him softly.
"Yes, Mate?" He asks looking up this time.
"How much more work is left?"
"Uh... I just need to go over a couple of more sheets... I am sorry mate, I hate making you wait... but these are-"
"Never mind, Alpha" I cut him off and then ask with an innocent pout, "Do you mind if I make a phone call until then?"
"To whom?" He asks sharply and I bite my tongue to stop myself from making a retort.
"Mel. You met her at the inaugura-"
"Sure" He cuts me off with thin lips but his eyes are still on me, and they make me feel... like I am not dismissed yet.
"Uh... I'll just g-go then, yeah?" I stand up.
"You can make the call in here too" He shrugs.
"Uhm... it's actually kinda... private" I bite my lower lip and pray to the moons that he doesn't ask what I want to talk to her about.
He nods his head slowly and I tell him that I'll be at my desk before making my way out of his office.
His voice stops me at the door though.
"Hey, Mate?"
"Yes Alpha?" I ask, suddenly breathless.
"Tomorrow is the last day of your heat" I nod, "And it's also full moon" I feel my heart beat faster on hearing that.

"I did some research and I read that your heat will either become twice as intense or drift away totally, when the Moon comes out tomorrow" Why is he saying this to me? I already know it...
Damn... Why can't I have Teague here when I need him the most?!
"I just thought that you should know" He says softly, his cheeks slightly pink.
I am staring intently at him, wondering if he will be able to really resist the heat's pull tomorrow evening, and under my scrutinizing gaze, he breaks eye contact, back to staring at the screen in front of him with reformed interest.
I scowl and walk out.

I first try to call on Teague's phone, because why not? I'd rather discuss this with him than with Mel.
It concerns him, ya know?
But he doesn't picks up his phone.
After the sad sixth attempt I give up and dial Mel.
She picks up on the first ring.
"DEL!" Shouting my name in the phone is her greeting to me.
I cringe and put the phone away from my bleeding ears, giving the device a look before putting it back on my ear.
"Calm your tits Mel" I hiss, irritated.
"Sorry, bitch. I was just so concerned about you that I couldn't control myself. Sue me" She wails on the other side.
"Uh..."
"What with you gone and Teague being all silent and broody... I am at a loss, girl" she sounds sad and I feel like shit.
"I am sorry Mel. But how did T take the news of me being gone? What about Ruin?" I am so curious about what is happenning there. Is Ruin out of control again?
"T is being a baby, that's what it is and as for Ruin, did you know that that cat is acting all tamed all of a sudden? I mean what the hell? He is not throwing any temper tantrums about you being away, just beung a pain when T tries to get laid" She sounds worried.
"That's okay, right?" I ask thoughtfully.
"I donno, Del. And things that I don't know about... they worry me the most" Her words are choked and I realize that she is more scared than she wants to admit.
"Do you think the curse is acting up already? Is that why Teague is able to have rein over Ruin?" She asks me.
"Mel. Calm down, okay? Just calm down... and I need to tell you something" I suck in a deep breath, ready to tell her about all that has happened to me since I was teleported out of Canada.
"Please tell me you are not pregnant" she sounds desperate and I choke on air.
"What!?" If she were in front of me, I'd strangle her for saying something like that.
"So you are not pregnant? Cool... nothing can be worse than you being pregnant... I mean it would be awesome... I just don't want to be the one to break that news to T. He'll go-"
"Just shut up Mel and listen-" I snarl and once she has quieted down, I start narrating her my side of the story.

"So Dad told you that Teague's mate will be the she wolf Sel hates the most?" I can almost feel her pacing the room as she talks to me. I know it's hard on her... to talk about Sir Nicholas, because let's face it the guy is her father for name's sake.
"Yes" I nod to myself.
"And today Sel confirmed that amongst all the she wolves she has met, she hates Olivia the most?"
"Yes!"
"So that means..." She sounds hyped now.
"That Olivia is Teague's Mate! She was the one we've been looking for! She's the cure to the curse" I am almost dancing on my spot as I stand and shimmy my way to the window to stare out of it.
"Oh-Em-Gee!" I cringe at that.
"Olivia? Liv? As in the girl who came to Canada with Alpha Black" She asks to confirm in case I was talking about some other Olivia. That would be hard as I don't know any other Olivia.
"Yes, Mel" I deadpan.
"Oh My! This is just awesome! Now she doesn't have to worry about booking another Cheetah for her Heat. It's at the end of the month, ya know?"
"How do you know about her Heat chart?" Are they friends?
"She mentioned it in passing" Mel is too quick in her answer and I know that they are friends. Or at least they are in touch.
"It's okay if you are friends with her, Mel. I wouldn't want you to hate her because of me..." I try to convince Mel of something I myself am not convinced about...
"Really?" She aks, her voice soft.
"Yes, Mel. You are your own agent. Don't let me be in your way ever, okay?"
"You are never in the way, Del. Never, you hear me? You are the sister that I never had... and I just want you to be happy, yes? I will do anything in my power to see that you are happy" She says sincerely and my heart soars, before it drowns back.
I have to tell her one more thing.
"Mel?"
"Yes?"
"I am in heat" I announce and I hear a soft 'Oh' from her.
"And ever since I have been in heat, I have been feeling the bond's pull towards Alpha Ulysses"
"You can?" She asks surprised.
"Yes"
"But how can that be possible?" She sounds like she is talking to herself now.
"I know, right?! I have been asking myself the same damn question... I mean... you worked on that potion for 6 months. That is half a year, girl! And it was working too... He didn't affect me the first week... there were barely any sparks... but now they are all over the place..." I know I sound panicked.
"Oh Del..."
"Do you think the potion is not working anymore? The potion you made to confuse the Mate Bond?" I ask and before she can answer, I hear a loud noise. As if something crashed on the ground.
My hand starts shaking as I turn to face my Boss.
My Alpha.
My Mate.
There are splinters of glass scattered everywhere in the once clean office and the place where the door was is now... well doorless.
I force my eyes away from the glass and upwards. Vertically upwards.
From his black polished shoes to the neat pressed suit he is wearing and then more up.
Where his face is.
And what I see on his face is what I'd seen on my own... In the mirror. The day I had left Little West and my family. And my pack. And him.
His face is painted in pure, raw heart break, with shades of betrayal.
"Alpha..."
