"So, Madi, why did you come here?" he asked. "Not that I'm not happy to see you," he added.
"I understand. You're curious. I came to, well... it's a little embarrassing..." I was blushing.
"Madi, you can tell me anything."
"Madds, not Madi."
"Oh. Okay. Madds, what's up? Well, other than being conscious..."
"The sky, but that's not the answer you want."
"Right."
"Okay, but how have you been? This past year. Year, woah." I put my hand to my forehead. I felt dizzy. A whole year. That's so long.
"Madds, are you okay?"
"I, yeah. Just talk about the times when I was out... Just talk."
"Okay, well Senior year was great, other than the fact that you weren't there. All your friends were concerned about you, but they weren't allowed in. Your mom made special arrangements so that I could visit. I kept them updated, and Allison and I dated."
"The girl you've liked for two years? Nice."
"She was horrible, though. She was mean to everyone, and she was possessive. She got mad if I hung out with other girls. It was bad. I got out of the relationship, but not without being hurt."
"That must have done something to your ego..." I trailed.
"No, I mean physically."
"Oh. Oh, Thomas, I'm sorry." The feelings I felt were overwhelming. He had been abused. I need to go find Allison and kick her butt. Not acceptable. I wanted to comfort and reassure Thomas. What is going on?
"Anyways, I didn't date the rest of that year, just because, well, I don't know. I just didn't really have feelings for everyone. then summer came and I hung out with my friends when I wasn't sitting in your hospital room. I visited every day I could." I left up from the chair I was in and hugged him. I didn't realize that I was sitting on his lap, until he pointed it out. I meant to still be standing.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I started to get up.
"No, it's alright." he pulled me back down. "I think we both needed a hug. from each other." I wrapped my arms back around him. He smelled like lavender, and something I couldn't place. It was nice. He hugged me back tightly. Without my saying okay, I started crying.
"Sorry," I sighed, seeing that I had left a wet spot on his right shoulder.
"It's fine." he grabbed a tissue, and handed it to me.
"Since when do you keep a tissue box around?" I said, standing up to blow my nose.
"Since Aaron got sick last week."
"Aaron?"
"My roommate."
"Oh." I walked back over to him, and sat next to him, because there was room. He put his arm around me and I snuggled into his side. He looked down at me.
"Madds?"
"Ye-"I looked up at him, and he kissed me. It was gentle, but nice. He broke the kiss.
"I am in love with you."
"That's what i came here to tell you." I said, smiling. He kissed me again.
"Do you have to go to class?" I asked.
"Yes." he replied.
"Can I borrow your phone charger? Mine's dead."
"Go for it, it's in my room."
"Thanks." I walked into his room and took his charger. I sat on his bed, which was strangely neat. He'd learned a lot in a year. I lay there for a good ten minutes looking at the ceiling, and then my phone rang. Loud. Well, I guess it was charged some. I picked up.
"Mom?"
"Thank god you answered, FINALLY. Where are you?"
"California."
"WHAT?! WHY WOULD YOU BE IN CALIFORNIA?!"
"Mom, calm down."
"I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT CALM DOWN, YOUNG LADY. YOU TELL ME RIGHT THIS INSTANT WHY YOU ARE IN CAL-"
"MOM!" Silence. "I'm in California, because I needed to see Thomas. My phone has been dead, I forgot the charger. Give me a break. Please. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have taken off, but I needed to come and see Thomas. "
"Honey, I thought something horrible had happened. I didn't know what to think." I heard a door open.
"Just one sec, mom." I turned around, to see a tall, tan guy standing in the doorframe. "Hi?"
"Who are you?" He asked. His voice was deep. His dark brown hair fell into his eyes. His brown eyes. They were pretty.
"I'm Madalyn." I extended my hand.
"Okay, Madalyn. What are you doing here? And in my room nonetheless."
"Y-your room?"
"M-my room." He mocked.
"I knew it was too clean to be Thomas' room!"
"You must know Thomas pretty well,"
"Since we were born."
"Hey, you're that girl he's always talking about."
"Always talking about?"
"Yeah, the one that was in a coma. He talks about you all the time. I'm Aaron, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, Aaron. Sorry I was in the wrong room."
"It's cool."
Aaron and I talked until he had to leave for class. Once you get to talking, he's pretty nice. Funny, too, I guess. He told me about when Thomas first moved in, and some of the stories he knew, and all about campus, too. I realized I had to call my mom again, so I did, and explained everything. It worked out. I was to come home in three days.
