Narrator's POV
For eight long weeks Zara hadn't seen or contacted Deeks. The news of Kensi's pregnancy hurt more than she'd ever admit, and things between them were at a point where she had her younger sister dropping off and picking up the twins to avoid contact with him, but the moment she got the call saying he'd been shot she immediately dropped everything, packed bags for the girls and rushed over to the emergency room where she now stood face to face with Kensi
"Where is he?" Zara immediately asked seeing the tears in Kensi's eyes. Her timing was almost perfect with the doctor's who'd just entered the waiting area
"You must be next of kin for detective Deeks. I'm doctor Matthew's, your husband's surgeon" the older man introduced himself
"Ex-husband, but It's a pleasure meeting you. Doctor would you please explain what's going on with Martin?" Asked Zara
"Certainly ma'am. Detective Deeks took two small caliber bullets to the abdomen that we were able to remove. He's in recovery if you'd follow me" the doctor offered. Zara motioned Kensi to come along with her and the girls and they all stepped into the private recovery room where Deeks laid bandaged in bed
Deeks: You came
"Did you doubt that I would?" Asked Zara
Deeks: I wasn't sure. You have a sitter dropping off and picking up the girls. I haven't seen you since our talk eight weeks two days ago. I missed you
"I'm still your next of Kin, but I would always come when your hurt. I may be upset with you, but all my life you've been my best friend and biggest cheerleader. It's time I returned the favor" said Zara
Deeks: I'm sorry I hurt you, princess. I'm sorry for everything. All I want is my best friend back, do you think that will happen anytime soon?
"I don't know, but I do know we made a promise to spend forever together. We may not be a couple anymore, but I keep all my promise especially a pinky promise" she wrapped her tattooed pinky with the word 'promise' around his that said the same
"I promise I'll always have love for you, I promise to always find a way to forgive you and it won't be easy, but I promise to give this new blended family thing a try. Is that good enough for you blondie?" She questioned
Deeks: it's all I could ask for
She leaned over and kissed his forehead before taking a seat beside the twins on the couch "he's all yours Kens"
Deeks: she's so busy eating all of my jello she's not even focused on me
Kensi: I got hungry, and you got me pregnant so I deserve this jello
"She has a good point" said Zara "Kensi I do need to talk with you as well. It's about what you said when you called me earlier"
Kensi: did I say something wrong?
"You did. You're not the reason I got so upset with him, and I don't blame you for what happened between us. I only ever blamed him" said Zara
Kensi: I complicated things between the two of you. Me and my baby
"That's not true. You didn't know about me, and we weren't together so I had no right blaming you. He's the one who ended up hurting both of us, all because of his terrible communication skills and I know he's sorry, I know he didn't mean to but Martin alone is why I was upset. You didn't mess up our friendship or our family, and as for your baby I'm happy that my girls can stop nagging me about wanting to be big sisters. I won't be the easiest person to get along with, but for the sake of my family I'll try"
Kensi: I'd like that. Maybe we could be friends
"Maybe, but according to Kate we're a lot alike, so we'll most likely be at each other's throats the majority of the time"
Kensi: sounds like the average family to me
"Pretty much. I better get these two restless little munchkins home for nap time." Said Zara
Deeks: can't they stay a little while longer?
"Fine, but I have to pick up my sister and yours from the airport, so I'll be back a little later for them.
She gave the girls kisses before leaving the four alone in the hospital room. Deeks laid back with a smile on his face, happy that she was finally willing to let him in. Sure they'll be disagreements in the future, but for now even though he's injured things are finally perfect
Deeks: thank you for sticking with me, for wanting to make this work
Kensi: if the tables were turned I'd like to think you'd do the same for me, and I don't want our son coming into a hostile environment so of course I wanted to clear the air with Zara who's definitely still upset with you
Deeks: yeah, Kate and her our baby sister Zaniya aren't due home for another hour, but at least she's trying. I think we'll be okay
Kensi: I know we will
She pecked his lips before returning to her seat beside his bed
