That night was even worst than the first. Dark dreams of men dressed in shadows haunted me to the point of screaming myself and my family awake. I stayed awake for hours. In the meantime I got dressed and did my hair. Anything to not think about the night-mares. When I was finally able to go to sleep it was terrible. All was dark, I heard screaming and nothing else. I had come to the edge of something, fire was about to engulf me. My only option was down. I jumped. It was a long fall, and when I finally reached the end I hit something terribly cold.
I awoke to a soft hand gently moving the hair out of my face. "Good morning." he said to me. It was Kyle of course, the only person who could say good morning to me after my night."How did you get in hear?" I asked, half lifting myself up. "Does it really matter?" We stared at each other for awhile. His dark green eyes pouring deep into my soul. I started to get this feeling in my stomach. A little bit like when you are nervous, but instead I was extremely happy. "You do look awfully pretty when you sleep." he finally said. A little strand of his hair wisped down on his face. I quickly looked away because I didn't want him to see me blush. Why was this happening and why now? After awhile we left my room and went to breakfast. It was cold because we waited so long to leave, but Father snuck us some hot biscuits. After we finished eating we left and there was no laughing or even talking between us. Just a long dead akward silence.
I couldn't take it anymore. I felt like I just had to say something. "Kyle, why haven't you ever told me about any girls that you might fancy?" It was the first thing to pop into my head. I said it before I could stop myself. Kyle just stopped abruptly. "Why haven't you told me about any boy that you might fancy?" he answered. That's when I had the memory.
It was last year in early Summer. The sun was shining brightly so Kyle invited me for a walk. We went through the woods to a small oak tree that provided just enough shade for two twelve year olds. It was just us.
"Bonnie, how come you've never told me about any boys who have tried to catch your eye?"
"I guess none have."
"Don't be idiotic."
"What do you mean?"
"Are you serious? Nearly every boy in town has a fancy for you!"
"How do you know?" That's when Kyle blushed. "They tell me." he muttered. "Oh. Wait why would they tell you!" That's when Kyle turned a little pale. "They might have wanted me to try to convince you to go into a courtship with them." he said. "Why didn't you ever tell me this!?!" I asked a little upset with him. I could tell Kyle knew I was upset with him and he was not happy about it. "Because there is one boy in town who didn't want you to go on courtships with other boys!" he yelled at me while getting up. It was the first time he had ever raised his voice at me. Why was he so mad at me? He stormed off and I was alone in the woods.
I came back to reality with a start. Kyle was still standing there, staring at me with those dark green eyes of his. This was the first time I was actually starting to try to figure out who that boy was.
