Chapter Sixteen - Eavesdropping
"And then, it just happened!" I laugh.
"Oh my gosh, Amber! You're so hilarious!" I laugh again. "You seem very quiet though."
There was a moment of silence.
"Hehe," She gushes. "Um, I've got to go, my mom's calling me for dinner so bye. See ya!"
"Bye! See you tomorrow," I hang up.
The next day, I smile as I see Amber.
"Hey!" I grin.
"Hi," she smiles.
Soon, Jake and Mia join us too.
"What's up-" I get cut off by a high pitched voice.
"Amber," Avery looks at me. "Oh, Dani! So now you're friends with Amber? Piece of advice, watch your back. She might strike your back anytime."
"Ave-" Amber starts but I cut her off.
"Leave us alone, Avery! You don't know anything!" I snap.
"And you do? Hah!" She sneers. "If you didn't know, Amber was once my best friend, until that happened!" She glares at Jake and Amber before walking away.
"Okay now, what was that?" Mia questions.
"Who knows?" Jake shrugs, a bit too nervously.
"Um, I got to go," Amber mumbles. "See y'all!"
"Jake-"
"I got to go too! See ya!" Jake rushes.
"What the hell???" Mia frowns.
"Something is definitely up with those three," I frown too.
"Yeah we'll figure it out later. Now, let's get to our classes. I'll see you later, okay?"
"Yeah."
On my way to my next class, I bump into someone.
"Oops! Sorry!" I apologize.
Ray just spares me a cold single second glance before turning and walking away.
I sigh. This time, I'm gonna take a long, hard time to get him to start talking to me again.
"Today, I'm assigning you all some projects to do with a partner, which I will be choosing," I groan along with the rest of the class as Mr. Kris announces.
"So, Amy Mitchel and Kevin Bay
Mark Anoty and Dinah Herst
Jane Spear and Brad Lister
Danina Williams and Jason Reed"
That's all I listen to Mr. Kris. Jason Reed... I don't know him but I think he is a part of the popular table. I just hope he's not like most of them.
Mr. Kris explains to us what this project is about.
"Now, sit with your partners and get to know each other. Your projects are due next Friday. There's plenty of time so I expect something good and productive."
As people started switching their seats, I turn around continuously, searching for this "Jason Reed".
"Who the hell is Jason Reed?" I mutter after I fail finding him.
"Over here," I hear a deep voice, making me turn to the owner of it, who was casually leaning against the wall in the back seat, with his arms crossed and eyes on me. He was really good looking with dark brown hair and a pale complexion and eyes that looked grey and blue in colour at the same time.
I wait for him to come and sit next to me but he just looked at me with a blank face.
"Well?" I say, getting impatient. "Aren't you coming?"
"Why should I come?" He says with a smug look on his face. "You have to come, not me."
Oh well, he is like those "popular people" after all.
I huff and get to the seat next to him.
"So you're Danina, huh?" He smirks.
"Just call me Dani," I shrug.
"Hey, I know you!" He grins. "Ray's chick, right?"
I look at him like he was the biggest idiot in the world.
"What?" He shrugs. "Okay, not Ray's, Josh's right?"
I still look at him like he was the biggest idiot in the world.
"What???" He yells, making everyone turn back to look at him.
"Mr. Reed, is there a problem?" Mr. Kris asks him.
"No," Jason bluntly replies and turns to me. "Don't tell me you're both Josh and Ray's girlfriend???"
"WHHAAATTT???" This time, it's me who yell.
"Miss Williams! What is your problem?" Mr. Kris looks at me, annoyed.
"Um, nothing. Sorry," I mumble as Jason laughs at me.
"Ray is not my boyfriend!" I shout at him. "Josh is... I guess."
"What do you mean by you guess?" He raises his brow.
"Um, it's complicated."
"Oh," he blinks. "What about Ray?"
"I went on some dates with him, two, to be exact."
"Oooh! Were you cheating on Josh with him then?"
"What? No! That was before I became Josh's girlfriend!"
"Wait, then that means you chose Josh over Ray?"
"Not exactly but Josh was the one who proposed me and I said yes."
RRRRRIIINNNGGG!!!!
"Oh well, got to go," I get up from my seat.
"See you later?" He smiles.
"Let's see," I smirk and exit the class.

I munch on my burger, listening to Amber, Mia and Jake bicker about. In fact, it was quite amusing that I was trying to stiffle my laughter.
"Did you know? Last year, I saw Jake in his boxers," Amber smirks. "His spongebob boxers."
Mia and I burst out laughing.
"Oh my gosh!" I try to stop my laughter. "Jake- you- really-bwahahhahaah!!!!"
"God!" Mia holds her stomach. "Spongebob? Hahahaahhaha!"
"What's so funny about that???" Jake scowls at us, especially at Amber, who gives him a sweet smile in return. "I bet you girls still use barbie underwears!"
"What the fuck?" I laugh so hard that I couldn't breathe.
"Hahahahhahh!" Mia slapped Jake's arm, laughing.
"Ow!" Jake glares at Mia.
"Wow!" Mia says once we both stop laughing. "You two must've been really close that Amber even saw you in your boxers."
"Um.. Yeah, kind of," Jake says awkwardly.
I open my mouth to say something, only to get interrupted.
"Dani!!!" Jason sits next to me.
"Jason?" I frown. "What are you doing here?"
"What? Can't I be in the cafeteria?" He asks. "Oh, hey, Jake."
"Hey, man!" Jake grins.
"And who are these two lovely ladies here?" Jason smiles flirtishly at Mia and Amber, making me roll my eyes.
"Amber Merrick."
"Mia Thompson."
"Lovely names! I bet you know me but, for the sake of it, I'm Jason Reed."
"Never heard of you," Mia smirks.
"Liar!" Jason shoots.
"Jason!!!!!" A very familiar voice rings through my ears.
"Ray!!!" Jason grins and opens his arms as though he was gonna hug Ray but Ray instead flicks his forehead, making me laugh.
"Ow!" Jason glares at Ray.
"What are you doing here? I was waiting for you over the corner!" Ray glares at him.
"Oh, sorry!" Jason says sheepishly. "I just saw Dani and thought I'd chat with her or something."
That's when Ray looks at me.
"Hey," I say, nervously.
He doesn't say anything back.
"You know her, right?" Jason grins. "We're both partners for a Literary project."
"Could you just get back to our table there with me now?" Ray says, annoyed.
"Sure, sure. Let's go! Bye, everyone!" Jason waves at us.
"Bye," I say.
"Hey, guys!" I hear a voice I hadn't heard in days.
"Nick!" I grin. "Long time no see!"
"Yeah, had to go visit my sick grandmother at the countryside," he takes a seat next to Mia. "Hey, sweetheart. I missed you."
Mia rolls her eyes. "I missed you too." Nick leans in and they start kissing.
"Okay! I think that's enough!" Jake claps his hands. "Break it!"
Mia giggles as they part while Nick groans.
"Oh, Nick. Meet Amber," I motion towards Amber. "And Amber, meet Nick."
"Hi," Amber smiles.
"Hey," Nick grins.
"She's a permanent person of our group now," I grin.
Amber smiles.
School ended pretty quickly today. Well, that's how I felt as I was having a great day today. I didn't even think about my boy problems and just had fun with my friends.
"Hey, Dani," Mia says. "I'm going home with Nick, you wanna come?"
"Nah," I reply. "You guys go. Bye!
"Bye!"
I hum as I walk along the now almost empty corridor.
"Why are you always like this???" I hear a high feminine voice.
"Like what, damn it?!!" I follow the source of the male voice which led me to the garden side.
I hide somewhere and listen to the conversation.
I know, I know, I'm eavesdropping but can't help it! It really sounds like an interesting conversation.
"This has to stop," The female voice says. "You can't keep coming to me when you have a girlfriend."
"I know," The male voice says. "It's just that- it's- it's so hard! I love you! And I love my girlfriend too!"
"How can you love two people at the same time?!!"
"I don't know! I just do!"
Hmm.. Sounds like a real drama. The guy obviously like this girl, not his girlfriend but he isn't realising it.
"Well, this can't happen anymore. You've gotta decide who you wanna really be with."
"What? But, I- I really like the two of you..."
"No, you like only one girl. You don't actually like one of us but you don't realise it!"
"Okay, fine! Just, give me some time, okay?"
"Yeah. And I've gotta tell you something."
"What is it?'
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Ugh- Please! Say it only if you mean it!"
"I mean it! I really do. I love you!"
I smile. Sounds good. Maybe I should see who they are before going home. I step out of my hiding place to see two figures, kissing passionately.
I smile, only for it to fade away after a second.
My eyes widen at the sight of those two people kissing.
Melissa and Josh.
