I ran surprisingly well in 4 inch heels not missing a beat as I sprinted back to the hospital.
I burst into the room and saw doctors all around Sebastian.
"What's happening?" I asked
"His wolf exhausted, he's dying" one of the doctors said not realizing it was me
I pushed my way through them laying my hand on his face. He pale skin seemed to be getting paler by the minute.
"Luna you can't be back here" the head doctor said
Something came over me as my hands hovered over his body, a blue light began emmiting from his chest as all the machines stopped freaking out and his heart rate went back to normal.
"Luna what are you doing?" one of the nurses asked
"I'm not letting my mate die" I said
"Let us in! We're both of their friends we need to be in there!" I heard several voices yelling from the hallway
I looked over and saw everyone from the office looking in through the window worriedly
"Let them in" I said
Some of the nurses left as everyone came in looking at me in wonder.
"Amber what is that?" Jason asked going to touch the blue light
"Don't!" I said smacking his hand away "I don't know what I did but it's working, he isn't dying anymore"
"Wait you don't even know what your magic does?" Isaac's mate asked
"No I only attained it a week ago and got even more of it today from my great grandmother" I said not taking my eyes away from Sebastian
After about 20 minutes of all of us just staring at Sebastian and the Blue light we all moved back taking seats around the room.
"Amber the warriors are back, it's 12:47" Beta Henry said
"You don't have to go, we can handle it" Isaac added quickly
I shook my head standing up "I can do it"
I stepped back into my heels I had kicked off and ran my fingers through my hair.
"Will that stay there if you leave?" Emily asked pointing to the light
"Yeah its fine" I said walking towards the door
As I walked out the head doctor came over walking with us as she talked
"Luna the Alpha is in critical condition these next 24 hours will be critical and since his wolf is to the point of exhaustion you are his life source at the moment" she said
"What are you saying?" I asked her
"I'm saying that we've never worked with gifts from the moon goddess. We don't know exactly how much energy your exerting to keep him alive, we don't know how powerful you are, and we don't know how long it will last" she said borderline yelling at me
"But we do know that he's alive and not in pain, that's enough for me right now" I told her
"Please just don't kill yourself trying to defy the moons will" she said before walking away
We all went to the stage to see almost all the pack members gathered. The only people I noticed to be missing were the small children which was expected seeing as its past midnight.
They watched in silence as we walked onto the stage and the head warrior came up to me.
"Luna we have the culprits in the dungeons" he said
"Any problems?" I asked
"Nothing we couldn't handle" he said confidently
Beta Henry stepped up beside me with a microphone.
"Do you want me to speak or will you" he said gesturing to the crowd watching our every move
"I'll do it, thank you" I said taking the microphone from him
"Hello Crescent Moon" I said earning a few cheers
"First off I just want to say thank you." I said
"Thank you for pulling together, training hard, doing what needed to be done for the betterment of the pack, and sending all of your prayers and well wishes towards your Alpha" I said
Swallowing hard willing myself not to cry in front of the people I'm supposed to be strongest for.
"Unfortunately, Alpha Sebastian's health has further declined and he is now in critical condition" I said shakily as a single tear fell from my eye
I wiped it quickly taking a breath and continuing.
"I am however glad to report that we have suspects under custody thanks to our brave warriors but until we get further information we won't release names" I said causing them to cheer again
"In honor of the 5 fallen warriors we will be holding their funerals tomorrow morning beginning at 10:00" I said after the noise had died down
"Why don't we just wait until our Alpha joins them!" Someone yelled
Everyone began arguing, yelling and threatening each other as I stood speechless at the audacity of that man.
Beta Henry stepped forward placing his hand on my shoulder.
I handed him the microphone without a word keeping the perfect steel poker face.
"Hey!" He yelled in a tone that was full of anger and seriousness
Everyone quieted at once looking back to the stage.
"Have you no respect?!" Henry spat glaring at the man who yelled out beyond angry
"That man in there fighting for his life is your Alpha! Your leader who has personally helped almost all of you at some point in your lives. He loves this pack more than anything in this world other than your Luna and this is how you act when he's not around?!" He asked
The pack bowed their heads in shame and submission to their superior.
"Your Luna is up here trying to keep you all informed when she very well could be by her mates side. Most of you have your mates standing right beside you, imagine yourselves in Luna Amber's shoes! The day you meet your new pack you have to take over as Alpha! She's been doing a hell of a job looking out for each and every one of you without even having met most of you. She shouldn't care about us, she has no obligation to yet she is up here in front of over 600 ungrateful wolves trying her hardest not to break" he said
"So before you dare yell disrespectful shit check yourselves because if you don't, I sure as hell will" he said before turning to me handing me the microphone
"Please, finish what you were saying" he said calmly stepping back beside his mate
I cleared my throat hiding my shock at Henry's outburst "As you all know we've beefed up security around here, cameras around the territory lines, more training for the warriors, and so on. We're going to keep that going with the addition of a new armory. Thanks to the retired warriors there is now a building that will house the weapons that are being sent in. Along with that we're going to start training for the kids. We don't want them to ever be in a position where they are defenseless so we'll be teaching them basic self defense along with how to safely use some of the weapons. If anyone else would like to take the self defense classes, they will start Monday at 9am on the training field. We want to get back into regular pack life ASAP but we can't ignore the tragic events that have happened." I said lowering the microphone and looking behind me at the higher ranked and my friends.
"Anyone else want to say anything?" I asked
They all shook their heads so I looked back to the crowd.
"Alright that's it, please go and get some rest" I said handing the microphone to a man who looked to be in charge of the stage.
The crowd began to spread out but from what I could tell no one left.
"Alright I'm going back to Seb see you all in the morning" I said to my friends before descending the stage and heading towards the hospital.
As I walked, the pack cleared a path as they all watched me closely. I ignored them entering the building and going straight to Sebastian.
When I walked in the blue light was significantly dimmer. The closer I got the brighter it got, and when I touched him it was back to the glow it was before I left.
"The farther you get from him the dimmer the light gets" a nurse said walking into the room
"How is he?" I asked not looking at her
"He's better, thanks to you he's stabilized and both he and his wolf are healing" she said
I nodded sitting on my bed and opening my laptop.
I began balancing the packs' books. Making sure we weren't overspending with all the new improvements and repairs that were being done.
I was thankful for the economics and advanced math classes I took as I completed the work with ease.
I felt people watching me and looked up to see my friends and the higher ranked couples standing in the doorway all dressed in pajamas.
"Amber you need to sleep" Emily said
"I'll sleep when he's awake until then I'll be productive" I said glancing at Sebastian
"Here at least take this pill" Jason said giving me a white pill that looked similar to my anxiety pill.
"What is it?" I asked
"Your pill" Katie said
I swallowed the pill and drank a sip of water.
"I know for a fact that was not my pill" I said picking up my phone
"Yes it was" Emily said playing with her hair, a habit I knew she did when she was lying
I was too tired to interrogate them as I felt myself falling back into my pillows darkness quickly consuming me.
I dreamt of the future. Sebastian was playing with 2 small children, a boy and a girl. They were running around the backyard as I watched with a smile holding another baby girl.
"Mama" she said touching my face
I was pulled out of my dream by the sun shining in my face. I looked over to see Sebastian still asleep and the sun shining brightly in the sky.
I checked my phone and saw a few text messages from old classmates who are apart of the pack and saw it was 8:05. I stood up going into the bathroom, showering and changing into a black dress that hugged my curves a bit. Leaving my hair straight, I covered the slight bags I had with concealer and stepped into my black heels as the door opened.
A nurse walked in checking Sebastian before looking at me.
"Luna you look beautiful" she said
"Thank you, how is he?" I asked
"He's almost healed, you can let his wolf do the rest" she said
I took his hand in mine and slowly absorbed the light back into me.
His levels dropped for a second before stabilizing again. I kissed his cheek as the nurse left.
"I'll be back later Seb, the funerals are today. I love you" I said before releasing him and leaving the room
Walking outside I saw people dressed up in all black roaming around doing different tasks. I entered the main door of the pack house and went up to the office. Along the way many of the pack members told me good morning with sad smiles.
When I arrived at the office again I found the higher ranked couples with my friends inside of Sebastian's office.
When they looked at me I glared at them grabbing the speeches from my desk before entering Sebastian's office.
I said nothing for a minute, just looking at their guilty faces.
"You drugged me" I stated
"We just wanted you to get some sleep" Emily said not meeting my eyes
"Alright" I said sticking to my non threatening demeanor and poker face
"Alright? That's it?" Jace asked "you're not pissed?"
"Oh I am, I'm just picking my battles. I'm choosing to believe you all had my best interests at heart and I'm letting it go" I said checking the time on my phone
"9:45 let's head down" I said
They all stood and lead the way out of the room and down to a part of the pack I hadn't been to before.
Beautiful trees lined the cemetery that was filled to capacity with pack members. Many of them were crying or comforting others who were crying.
I could differentiate between the warriors and the other members as they were dressed in more formal versions of their usual black suits that included patent leather shoes and black hats.
We all walked to the front where a priest was standing behind a podium. We took our seats in the front row along with the families of the fallen.
The caskets were open and on display in the front and people were lined up to view them.
"Drink it" Mason said handing me a black thermos
I took it from him and took a sip immediately realizing it wasn't coffee. It has a fruity taste but I could also taste a hint of some kind of powder.
"What is this?" I asked taking another sip
"You've missed 3 meals since he's been asleep your going to pass out if you don't get some kind of nutrients in you, hence the protein shake" he whispered
I hugged him "Thank you Mason that would have been bad"
He hugged me back "Yeah and we don't need anymore problems"
Beta Henry came up next to us as we released each other "The pack is reading a romance between you too, separate now" he said in a hushed tone
I glanced around us and saw people looking at us disapprovingly. Marissa came up hugging me with a warm smile before stepping into Mason's arms.
I turned towards Beta Henry "are we ready to get started?"
He nodded and I sat in my seat with Elijah to my right and an empty seat where Sebastian would sit to my left.
"Alright at this time we are going to start the ceremony so if everyone could take their seats" the priest said
