AREESHA'S POV:
Alex came and hold me from my arm jerking me up to stand and pulled me towards the basement, I was still holding crying and scared Adil in my arms, when we heard the door bell.
Alex covered my mouth with his other hand, "Who is it" he asked,
"Maze Jaferi, open the door Alex," I heard it from the other side.
"Shit!" Alex cursed, and drag me into the nearby room, tying my hands and covered my mouth with a tape, "Don't make any noise, Areesha or the things will be worse for both of you," he threatens and leave the room, locking it from the other side, again, the doorbell rang at the main door, "Coming," Alex yelled, cleaning up the mess in the living room and opened the door, "What took you so long? I told you to open the door and here you are wasting my time" Maaz's angry voice came through the side windows I peeked through them and saw Maaz coming inside with two men, "Call Areesha, I want to talk to her, " he ordered and sat down on the couch, "Uh... She is... uh.." Alex stuttered,
"What? Just call her already I am getting late," Maaz said, irritatedly.
"She is not at home Mr. Jafferi" Uncle said coming downstairs, "Where did she go?" he asked,
"To spend some time with her friends" Uncle answered, "When she will return?" he asked again,
"Don't know its on her, she comes back when she wills," Uncle said sitting next to him,
"So what do you want to talk about?" uncle asked,
"None of your business Mr. Javed, I wanted to talk to her on some serious matters, I will wait for her to return," Maaz said, uncle and Alex both seemed to be nervous at that time they looked at each other, Maaz signaled his men to wait outside and turned on the T.V and started watching some kind of political talk show, "She may take a bit longer to return" Alex said, "Don't care I want to meet her, I can wait" Maaz said carelessly,
"Would you like to have something?" Alex asked,
"Coffee with no milk and one cube of sugar" Maaz Answered not bothering to look at them, his gaze was fixed on T.V,
"I will be right back" Alex said and left,
"So Mr. Jafferi, I wanted to talk about the contract, I have talked to my lawyer he was saying...."
"I am not here to discuss business with you, I am here for an important reason so why don't you just go call Areesha and let me see this talk show," Maaz said, interrupting uncle who stood up from his place and walked to the side table,
"Wait! Give me her number I will give her a call" Maaz said and took out his cell phone from the pocket of his suit jacket,
"No!" uncle said immediately,
"Why are you bothering, I will go and call her to come back quickly" Uncle said and Maaz nodded in response and increased the volume. Alex came in with a cup of coffee in his hands and set it on the table in front of Maaz, he picked up the cup and took a sip, his expressions changed, he slammed the cup on the table, "That's the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted!" he yelled, making both me and Alex flinch at his tone,
"I am sorry Mr. Jaferi but Areesha has left her cell phone in her room," Uncle said coming back into the room,
"Try her friends," he said and leaned back on the back of the couch, I can tell he was annoyed by now with both of them,
Welcome to my hell hole Maaz Jaferi!
"Why there is blood on the floor?" he asked, eyeing the blood drops near the carpet,
"What? Where?" Alex exclaimed, looking around,
"There," he said, pointing towards the carpet,
"I got a cut while I was working out this morning, may be few drops dripped here when I was cleaning the wound" Alex said,
"Where is Adil?" Maaz asked,
"Areesha took him with her," Uncle answered, when Maaz's cell phone rings, he picked his call and stood up talking, he started to pace around while talking on his phone, I saw him coming closer to the window from which I was peeking through, he was just a couple of feet away from me, I look around for something to get his attention towards me, I saw a vase on the side table, I tried to push it down but It was far from my reach, I started poking Adil with my elbow who was holding my shirt tightly in his hands, he opened his eyes and looked at me, peeling off the tape from my mouth, "Are you okay Api? Does it hurt?" he asked, getting off my lap, "I am okay buddy, just go and drop that vase on the floor quickly," I said, Adil got up and hold the vase in his hands and looked at me, "Are you sure?" he asked, "yes hurry up before he gets away" I answered, Adil was about to drop the vase, when I spoke, remembering Alex's threatening words earlier, "Stop Adil, don't do it" I said sounding defeated, I can take whatever they gave it to me but I can't do this, they will hurt Adil again and today he has suffered enough, "Come on Buddy sit here," I said, motioned him to sit on the floor cushion next to me, he sat next to me and lay is head on my lap, I again looked through the window and saw Maaz still standing there talking on the phone, after a while, he cut the call and started walking away, I watched is retreating back with tears in eyes.
Why I am so weak? Right now I am feeling so helpless.
"When Areesha returns tell her to call me," he said and tucked his phone in his pocket and move to the main door.
"Please don't go! Please don't go" I muttered as I saw him shaking hands with Uncle and left with his men trailing behind him.
I leaned my head to the wall and let my tears fall, why life has to be so cruel sometime?
"Ya Allah please help me, guide me to the straight path, please Allah helps me" I silently prayed.
Alex barged into the room and looked at both of us and smirked, "Good girl Areesha, you behaved, I am impressed," he said mockingly and grab my tied hands from one of his hands and hold Adil from his other, "But your punishment is not over yet," he said and drag both of us to the basement, he unlocked the door and throw both of us down the stairs, I winced as pain seeps through my whole body and almost scream as Adil landed on my back, he quickly stood up and help me to sit,
"I am sorry Api, I lost my balance when he pushed," he said, holding my aching hand. "It's okay Adil," I assured him, "How is your hand?" I asked, looking at his small hand, "It still pains me, but the bleeding has stopped "he answered, "What they will do Api?" he questioned,
"I don't know buddy" I answered honestly as I have no idea what would be their second step, they can't kill me but they will hurt both of us more by other ways.
I wish mama has not changed the will, she just let it all go, she shouldn't have transferred all this property to us and most importantly, she shouldn't have mentioned that point which stated if any one of us die all the property will be transferred to the NGO, I don't know why but mama has also mentioned that I can't claim my property till I get married, I don't understand that, why did she do that? She thought I will ever be able to marry anyone after witnessing her and Uncle Javed's marriage, yeah, I adore my parents, but after my father's sudden death, there were so many obstacles for us to face and most importantly my grandfather who just barged into our lives and implanted his orders to us, but I think he must have threaten mama in some way, I remember she was a woman of strong will, but my father's death shattered her, it broke her, but she still did lot for both of us, I promise you, mama I will try to be strong as you were. "May Allah SWT give you and daddy highest place in Jannah," I prayed for my parents and I don't know how but sleep overcomes me.
I was awakened by Adil, who was standing next to me, "Api, it's getting dark in here and I am feeling hungry, we didn't eat anything since morning," he said, like he was about to cry, "I know Adil, I am feeling hungry too," I said, and make him sit next to me. I patted my trousers' pocket and found a single granola bar, which I gave it to Adil, "Here, take it" I handed it to him, "We can share," he offered, "No, I am not that hungry," I said smiling and lay on the cold marble floor and closed my eyes.
It's been two days they haven't come and checked on us, only once Alex came with a bottle of water and left without saying anything.
I woke up in the morning by the sound of something smashing coming from upstairs, then there was sound of both of them yelling at each other, after a few minutes I heard the main door slammed shut and familiar sound of an uncle's car drove away, I pushed myself up and looked for Adil, who was looking outside the egress window of a basement, the door of the basement opened and Alex came in with his car keys,
"Get up Areesha, we have to leave before dad came back," he said, handing an apple to Adil,
"Where are you taking us?" I asked, "To the hospital, your wounds will take time to heal and Maaz is going crazy to meet you, he can't see you in this state, so get up, we are leaving for the hospital," he said and took Adil with him, I slowly stood up from my place and by taking baby steps I walked to the main door. "Why are you helping me?" i asked Alex, "I dont know" he replied, looking lost in his own thoughts.
We reached the hospital after ten minutes' drive, he led us to an ER where the doctor bandaged Adil's wound first than came to me, she treated my wounds and bruises, she asked a few questions to me and I told her about the pain in my abdomen and left ankle, she gave me some painkillers and asked bed side nurse to get my ankle scanned.
Alex came rushing to me like he has seen a ghost or something, "What is it?" I asked,
"He is here," he told me, "Who?" I asked again, "Maaz Jaferi, I don't know what he is doing here but he saw me with Adil outside the ER." He said, "Well this is a hospital anyone can be here, why are you acting like that?" I asked, "You don't understand Areesha, if he saw you here he will be mad to see you all wounded and hurt,he has been trying to contact you for last two days and dad's been lying to him about you," he said with concern,"Well this all happened because of you two," I said mockingly this time, Alex was about to say something when someone slides the curtains of my bed, we both looked up and saw Maaz standing there with furious expressions glaring at me,
"What happened to you?" he asked, coming closer, "Uh... Nothing," I answered a bit scared of him, he pushed passed Alex and stood right in front of me, still glaring, "I have been trying to contact you for last two days and you were just ignoring me, and wasting my time." he said through gritted teeth. "Let me tell...." Alex tried to say, but he cut in, "I am not talking to you, so why don't you get yourself out of here"Maaz said, Alex glanced at me I nodded and he left with Adil, but as he left Doctor came in,
"So miss Areesha, you don't have a fracture in your ankle just an angry sprain, no internal bleeding.
I am prescribing some painkillers for your wounds and an ointment for your ankle, don't walk for a few days and keep an ice pack on it and take some rest, come back for the checkup next week, okay," she said, giving me a cheerful smile, I smiled back and thanked her as I was about to hold the prescription Maaz took it from her, "What happened to her?" he asked. "She got some serious injuries to her back and abdomen, some cuts and bruises over her body," she told him looking at the tablet in her hands,
"I will take that" he said and took the prescription from her hands, she lifted her head and said, "Oh Mr. Maaz you are here and all the staff is looking for you in the east wing, it's getting late for the inauguration of the research center, Sir"
"Tell them I will be there in few minutes," he instructed her, she left, giving a weird glance to me, "What happened?" he asked, I looked in his eyes and for the first time I saw them soft not the hard glares he gives me whenever we meet, "I got into an accident," I lied, looking down at my hands. He didn't say anything for a while. Just stared at me, making it uncomfortable for me to sit there under his scrutinizing gaze.
"You stay here, I will be back in half an hour," he said and call Alex through the glass doors, " Take Adil with you, I will drop Arresha myself," he said, "No, Adil is not going anywhere without me," I said, he turned towards me and we both stared at each other for a while,"leave both of them here, I will drop them off myself, and tell your father to meet me tomorrow in my office at 8:00 am sharp," he said and walked out.
