DAY POV.
Blood falls down the side of my face and my head feels like it's on fire I look up and through the tears of pain, I see June. Getting carried away from me. I have failed to protect her.
A soldier comes over and lifts me up roughly. I try to wiggle out of his grasp. A tiny, hopeful part of me tells me that there's still a chance I can save her, that she's not that far. Although the realistic part of my brain knows I can't. Not in this state.
~
I let him carry me like a limp doll until we arrive at a blue and white building with large double doors at the entrance and neat little flowers and bushes all around it. Inside, the soldier drops me on a plush chair. Another soldier comes running our way.
"Thomas, you found him Thomas?"
"Yup."
The soldier who'd dragged me here answers in a monotone voice, Thomas the other guy said his name was. He looks tired.
"Good! Kara said she would be here in a few minutes."
"Kara says, Kara doesn't do."
I hear Thomas murmur under his breath.
"What?!"
I hear the other one say sharply.
"Nothing! Nothing, I was just saying I'll keep him here while Kara comes."
I can hear in his voice that he is scared.
"I dearly hope for your good that's what you said."
I hear the other one whisper threateningly before he turns on his shoes and stalks off.
~
Finally, a secretary shows up through the door we are waiting next to and whispers to Thomas.
"Kara has just arrived and is ready to see you and Daniel."
Her voice is soft and fragile like glass about to break, which surprises me since I though anyone who works for the the Elector would have a harsh voice. Thomas nods and wrenches me up by the arm which leaves my arm burning.
"Please be careful: don't hurt him."
"Since when do you give orders?!"
Thomas answers gruffly. The secretary wisely shuts her mouth and doesn't mutter another peep when I am half dragged, half walking into the room.
I hold back a gasp. Kara, as they call her, is the same lady who told me earlier that I had to redo the test for her own amusement.
"You may now leave Thomas."
He grumbles something that sounds something like "....come in.....no reason....right back out" I see Kara follow him with her deadly glare and when he sees her he stumbles out the door as fast as he can.
"So...."
Kara says now facing me with her icy eyes.
"You went as the knight in shining armor to save the distressed princess?"
She said with a glint of amusement in her eyes.
"She. Is. Not. A. Distressed. Princess."
I say in a cold, hard, protective voice that even surprises me. She laughs evilly.
"Oh, how I would like to slap that overconfidence off your face. Sadly, I have had orders not to hurt you since, you again, got a perfect 1,500 on your Trial."
She says testily looking at my bleeding head. I smirk proudly at her.
"Sadly,"
She continues.
"Since I would have liked to see you suffer a bit more."
She smirks evilly.
"I would have liked sending you to those 'labor camps'."
She says 'labor camps' like even she knows they mustn't be labor camps, so it's probably true that they aren't.
"Well one out of two......I guess that's enough......."
She adds in her turn, smiling smugly at me.
"What?! Who's the other person?!"
"And I thought you were smart...."
She says playfully.
"June!"
JUNE POV.
Tears stream and stream down my face.
"Day, Day, Day, Day Day..."
I mutter over and over again. My head jerks back and forth roughly as the soldier carrying me speed walks back to the dark, dirty, deadly Trial stadium My bandages aren't neat anymore, but messy, ripped, dirty. Inside he carries me to a room completely white.
And when I say completely, I mean Completely. White walls, white tile floor, white window frame, white chairs, white cushions... I'm sat down on a white chair and wait until a nurse in a white uniform comes in.
"Lie down here, please. Your job is done Dylan, you can leave now."
She says pointing to a white stretcher. Dylan, the soldier who carried me here, nods and walks out. Please. Humph. That's strange. Not much people say please to me around here. I look at the nurse curiously, lie down on the stretcher and wait as she gets her stuff ready.
She has chocolate brown hair pulled into a casual bun and soft features.
I whimper as I see her take out a sharp, metal object.
"Take these,"
She says softly outstretching her hand out to me and opening it. In her hands are two small white pills. I look up at her. I have been taught not to take anything unless I know what it is.
"It'll make your head numb and reduce the pain,"
She explains to me. I look at her thankfully and take the pills. They are hard to swallow without water and the stick to the top of my mouth, but I force them down.
As she starts working on me I can feel something happening like a little tingling, but no pain. Kind of like when your hands are really, really cold and you just walked into a warm place.
The nurse is nice. Yes, nice, you heard me. I never thought I'd meet someone nice that works in this living hell of a place.
She keeps up a good conversation at the same time staying focused on my head and not doing any fast movements. It seems like only a few minutes before I have to go back outside in the arms of those horrible people.
Two soldiers stand at my sides like bodyguards. I walk and my head feels a lot better in a tight bandage. I bring my hands up to my head and am surprised to see it's not sticky with blood anymore.
"Join these kids and don't cause any problems or you will regret having been born."
The soldier on my left says roughly. I nod my head, scared. I join the group of kids and see that most of them have really skinny arms and legs. My breath hitches. I look over at the group on the other side of the building and see that their arms a and legs are thick with muscle.
Shaking, I go over to the soldier who looks like he's supposed to be taking care of our group, but is instead flirting with the tall, slim woman that looks like she's supposed to be taking care of the other group.
"Um.....ex...excuse m....m....me i...is th...th...this the g..group th....th..that f....f...failed?"
I'm trembling so badly it's hard to keep my voice even. The soldier looks at me with a look of disgust and ignores me completely and goes back to his intense flirting. I look around my eyes wide and wild. No, no, no, no, no.....this can't be possible!!!
I sit in a corner, head in hands until finally we are led outside. Our group goes the opposite way as the other one and tears well in my eyes as I see the dirty, dusty, black trains we are being led to. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!! This can't be possible!
Then, I hear a shout. I turn my head and I see a fist fly and blood shoot in the air. With a bloody hand Methias looks my way and starts sprinting towards me.
