Night

Cape girardeau

Missouri

A car moved down the road, radio talking about the unseasonably cold weather. A black man sat behind the wheel. The radio crackled and died.

A large black truck approached behind his car, moving quickly. The man looked in his review mirror.

"What the....?" He asked. The vehicles raced along the road until the truck backends the sedan once, and then again.

The radio came back to life, talking about politics. The truck was suddenly gone. The man continued driving, watching his review mirror. Suddenly bright headlights shone through his windscreen. The truck was waiting. The man skid to a halt, backs up and turns to go the other way. The truck was revving.

He was back ended again and fought to control the car as it swerved on the icy road. He was back ended once last time and lost control, leaving the road and crashing through a cemetary. The car flipped, bounced, and skid to a halt. The truck cruised to a stop, revved a few times, then backed up and disappeared into thin air.

Gas station

Sam and Faith were looking at a map laid out on top of the Impala. Dean had his phone to his ear as Max leaned on the Impala, looking bored

"Okay." Sam said "I think I found a way." He pointed at the map

"No, if we go that way we're gonna get lost." Faith said

"What?" Sam asked "why?"

"Because you've marked on the map that we're here," she pointed at a cross on the map "but that's where we were miles ago." she pointed to where they actually were

"What?" Sam asked, looking at he map closely "no we-" he paused, realising his mistake "oh."

"Yeah." Faith said "If we go this way" she pointed "we can bypass that construction just east of here. We might even make Pennsylvania faster than we thought." She smiled at him "Who's the genius now, collage boy" She teased

"It doesn't matter" Max said, lowering his phone and looking thoughtful "We're not going to Pennsylvania."

"We what?" Max asked, looking up at him

"I just got a call from an, uh, old friend." Max said "Her father was killed last night, think it might be our kind of thing."

"What?" Faith asked

"Who was it?" Dean asked

"Cassie" Max told her. Max shifted uncomfortably. Faith nodded

"Wow" Dean nodded, looking shocked

"Believe me, she never woulda called, never, if she didn't need us." Max opened the passenger door to the Impala and got in as Dean headed for the drivers seat. Faith and Sam exchanged a look as they closed up the map

"Come on, are you coming or not?" Dean asked. Sam and Faith got into the back of the impala

-

Road

The Impala cruised down the road; fields on one side, a lake on the other.

-

Impala

"So.." Sam began "By old friend you mean...?"

"A friend that's not new." Dean told his brother

"Oh yeah, thanks." Sam said sarcastically "So her name's Cassie huh? You never mentioned her.."

"Didn't I?" Dean asked. There was a long pause. Faith looked at them expectantly

"Cassie" she said "why does that ring bells"

"I don't know" Max said

"Em," Faith raised an eyebrow "what's the deal?"

"What?" Max asked "There... there is no deal,"

"Really?" Sam asked

"Yes" Max said unconvincingly. Faith raised an eyebrow

"Max" she pressed. Max sighed and looked at Faith

"We... we went out." Max explained

"You mean you dated somebody?" Sam asked, smiling "For more than one night."

"Am I speaking a language you're not getting here?" Max asked "Remember that job in ohio, she was finishing up college. We went out for a couple of weeks.."

"Right.." Faith said "yeah I remember that." Max shrugged slightly.

"Look, it's terrible about her dad, but it kinda sounds like a standard car accident." Sam said "I'm not seeing how it fits with what we do. Which by the way, how does she know what we do?" Max looked shifty. "Did you tell her?" Dean looked away

"No!" She lied

"You told her! You told her the secret! Our big family rule number one. We do what we do and we shut up about it. For a year and a half I do nothing but lie to Jessica, and Max goes out with this chick in Ohio a coupla times and you guys just tell her everything?" Max stayed silent, staring straight ahead. "Dean?!"

"Yeah." Dean said "Looks like." He continued staring ahead and put his foot down. Sam gave him a bitchface, shaking

"Is there something that you're hiding from me too?" Sam asked angrily

"Look, the few not one night, actually nice relationships I have ever been in were either oblivious to my life or she was a hunter"

"And by 'she was a hunter' you mean Faith, right?" Max asked. Dean glanced at him before looking away. Faith looked out of the window, uncomfortable

"Shut up" Dean said. Sam looked at him and raised his eyebrows

-

Newspaper office

A Middle aged black man was speaking to a Middle aged white man and a young black woman

"It's a newspaper we put out, not a bulletin for the mayor's office."

"Get off your soapbox jimmy," the middle aged white man told him "I'm urging a little discretion is all."

"No, I think you're telling us what you want us to print and what you want us to sit on." The young woman said

"I know you're upset Cassie," the mayor told her "I liked your dad a lot. But I think your grief is clouding your judgment."

"Two black people were killed on the same stretch of road in the same way in two week." Jimmy said. Faith, Sam, Max and Dean entered the office.

"Jimmy, you're too close to this." The mayor said "Those guys were friends of yours. Again, Cassie, I'm very sorry for your loss." The mayor left; Jimmy walked away. Cassie sighed and turned around, looking straight at Max. Looking slightly apprehensive, Max nodded at her and grinned. Cassie stared at her and let a small smile appear on her face

"Max." She said

"Hey, Cassie." Max smiled. They stared at each other for a long moment, not speaking. Faith, Sam and Dean watched, smiling to themselves.

"This his my other brother Sam." Max motioned to him. Cassie smiled at sam, who returns one of his own. "And you remember Dean and Faith" Cassie smiled and nodded; her gaze returned to Max.

"Sorry 'bout your dad." Max said

"Yeah." Cassie nodded sadly "Me too." Max and Cassie continued staring at each other. Sam, Dean and Faith exchanged the same look

-

Cassie's large country house

Lounge room

Cassie entered the room, carrying in a tray of tea and cups

"My mother's in pretty bad shape. I've been staying with her." She said "I wish she wouldn't go off by herself. She's been so nervous and frightened. She was worried about dad."

"Why?" Dean asked.

"He was scared." Cassie said as she poured tea "He was seeing things."

"Like what?" Faith asked

"He swore he saw an awful-looking black truck following him." Cassie said

"A truck." Sam repeated "Who was the driver?"

"He didn't talk about a driver" Cassie said, handing them cups of tea "Just the truck. He said it would appear and disappear. And, in the accident, dad's car was dented, like it had been slammed into by something big."

"Thanks" Sam said, accepting his cup "Now you're sure this dent wasn't there before?" Max smiled at Cassie and whispered a thank you. Dean looked at his cup of tea like it was an alien, and quickly deposits it on a side table. Faith raised an eyebrow as she smiled at Cassie and thanked her for hers

"He sold cars." Cassie said "Always drove a new one. There wasn't a scratch on that thing. It had rained hard that night. There was mud everywhere. There was a distinct set of muddy tracks leading from dad's car... Leading right to the edge, where he went over." Cassie bowed her head, getting her emotions under control. "One set of tracks. His."

"The first was a friend of your fathers?" Max asked

"Best friend." Cassie replied "Clayton soames. They owned the car dealership together. Same thing. Dent. No tracks. And the cops said exactly what they said about dad. He 'lost control of his car.'"

"Can you think of any reason why your father and his partner might be targets?" Max asked

"No." Cassie told her

"And you think this vanishing truck ran them off the road?" Faith asked

"When you say it aloud like that..." Cassie trailed off "Listen, I'm a little sceptical about this...Ghost stuff...Or whatever it is you guys are into." Max huffed

"Skeptical." She said "If I remember, I think you said I was nuts."

"That was then." Cassie told her. They stared at each other again as Dean, Sam and Faith glanced around uncomfortably "I just know that I can't explain what happened up there." Cassie said "So I called you and after you didn't answer, your brother" Max breathed in to speak but was interrupted by a door opening; a middle aged woman entered the room. Faith, Max, Sam and Dean rose to their feet, Cassie went to take her mom's arm.

"Mom." She said "Where have you been I was so..."

"I had no idea you'd invited friends over." Her mother, Mrs Robinson, said

"Mom, this is Max, a...Friend of mine from.... College. And these are her brothers Dean and Sam." She said "and that's Faith..." she panicked for a moment so decided to use Max's reason "Dean's girlfriend" Faith looked at her

"Bu-" she began to say

"Yup" Dean said, putting her arm around her and giving a forced smile. Faith forced a smile too. Sam was staring at them, trying to to laugh

"Well I won't interrupt you." Mrs Robinson said

"Mrs Robinson." Dean began "We're sorry for your loss. We'd like to talk to you for a minute if you don't mind?"

"I'm really not up for that right now." Mrs Robinson said, slightly affronted. She left the room, those remaining looked at each other.

-

Road - Night

In the middle of an open field was a crashed car, wheels spinning. Jimmy was slumped over the wheel, unmoving. On the road the black truck revs it's engine then backs up, disappearing.

-

The same field - Day

The mayor and Cassie walked among the emergency vehicles.

"Jimmy meant something to this town." He told Cassie "He was one of our best. We won't be the same without him."

"Our best seem to be dropping like flies." Cassie said "Clayton, my father, Jimmy."

"What is it exactly you want me to do?" The mayor asked

"How bout closing this section of road for starters?" Cassie asked

"Close the main road." The mayor repeated "The only road in and out of town? Accidents do happen Cassie, and that's what they are. Accidents." Faith, Dean, Max and Sam approach and stood behind Cassie.

"Did the cops check for additional dinting on jimmy's car, see if it was pushed?" Max asked

"Who's this?" The mayor asked

"Dean, Max and Sam Winchester and Faith Bishop. Family friends."Cassie replied "This is Mayor Harold Todd."

"There's one set of tire tracks." The mayor said "One. . Doesn't point to foul play."

"Mayor, the police and town officials take their cues from you." Cassie said "If you're indifferent about..."

"Indifferent!?" The mayor almost yelled

"Would you close the road if the victims were white?" Cassie asked

"You suggesting I'm racist Cassie?" The mayor asked "I'm the last person you should talk to like that."

"And why is that?" Cassie asked

"Why don't you ask your mother." He replied. The mayor walked away, leaving them standing in the field.

-

Motel room

Sam walked out from the kitchen in trousers, shirt and tie, picking up a suit jacket

"I'll say this for her, she's fearless." Max was in front of the mirror in a suit, fixing her tie in the mirror

"Mm-hmm." Max said. Faith smiled at her from the table where she was researching in ordinary clothes.

"Bet she kicked your ass a coupla times." She said. Max glanced at her then returned to the mirror.

"What's interesting is you guys never really look at each other at the same time." Sam said "You look at her when she's not looking, she checks you out when you look away." Sam grinned "it's just a...Just an interesting observation in a....You know... observationally interesting way."

"Mmhmm," Max nodded and turned around "you mean exactly like Faith and Dean?" Faith looked at Max and smiled sarcastically as Dean came out of the bathroom with his tie on backwards. Faith gave him and amused yet loving look

"What?" He asked. Faith got up and walked over to him

"Come here," she said, walking over to him and standing close to him as she unfolded his collar and untwisted his tie. Max and Sam looked at them amused, neither of the two realising as Faith was concentrating on fixing the tie and Dean was concentrating on Faith's completion. Faith finished and looked up at Dean, staring into his eyes, her hands still on Dean's blazer. Sam cleared his throat and Faith quickly released Dean.

"Uh.. let's... let's go," Dean said quickly

"Yeah," Faith agreed. "I'll uh... I'll call you guys if I find anything" She said. Dean cleared his throat and quickly left the room. Sam and Max snickered. Faith looked back at her laptop and sighed

-

Road

The Impala cruised down a wet country road.

-

Day - Docks

Dean, Max and Sam walking down a pier. A few people were fishing. They approached two older men having lunch.

"Excuse me. Are you Ron Stubbins?" Sam asked. Ron nodded.

"You were friends with Jimmy Anderson?" Max asked

"Who are you?" Ron asked

"We're Mr Anderson's insurance company." Max said "We're just here to dot 'i's' and cross 't's'."

"We were just wondering, had the deceased mentioned any unusual recent experiences?" Sam asked

"What do you mean, unusual?" Ron asked

"Well visions, halluinations." Max listed

"It's part of a medical examination kind of thing." Dean said "All very standard."

"What company did you say you were with?" Ron asked

"All National Mutual." Dean said "Tell me, did he ever mention seeing a truck? A big black truck?"

"What the hell you talking about?" Ron asked "You even speaking english?"

"Son this truck, a big scary monster looking thing?" Ron's friend asked Dean

"Yeah actually, I think so." He said

"Hmm." Ron's friend nodded

"What?" Max asked

"I have heard of a truck like that." He said

"You have?" Max asked "Where?"

"Not where. When." Ron's friend explained "Back in the '60s there was a string of deaths. Black men. Story goes, they disappeared in a big, nasty, black truck."

"They ever catch the guy who did it?" Sam asked

"Never found him." Ron's friend said "Hell, not sure they even really looked. See there was a time, this town wasn't too friendly to all it's citzens."

"Thank you." Sam nodded. He, Max and Dean make their way back down the pier to the Impala

"Truck." Dean said

"Keeps coming up doesn't it?" Sam said

"You know, I was thinking." Dean began "You heard of the flying dutchman?" Max and Sam looked at him oddly

"Yeah," Max said "a ghost ship, infused with the captain's evil spirit. It was basically part of him." Dean nodded

"So what if we're dealing with the same thing?" He asked

"Yeah, it could be." Max said "A phantom truck, an extension of some bastard's ghost, re-enacting past crimes."

"The victims have all been black men." San said

"I think it's more than that. They all seem connected to Cassie and her family." Dean said "Faith's closer to her than we are , she can get to the house faster. I'll get her to talk to 'em"

"All right." sam said "Well, you work that angle, go talk to Faith," Dean looked at Sam oddly

"Yeah I will." Dean said

"Oh, and you might also wanna mention that other thing." Max pointed at him

"What other thing?" dean asked them

"The serious, unfinished business?" Sam asked "The unspoken thing? The 'will they? Won't they?' thing going on between you and Faith ever since she started hunting with us again?" Dean remained obstinately silent. He breathed in to protest but didn't know what to say. Sam and Max huffed a laugh

"Dean, what is going on between you two?" Max asked

"You know exactly what's going on," Dean said "We broke up. And I mean yeah she was the best and nicest and most beautiful person I've ever been with in my whole life and her eyes sparkle when the sun is at just the right point in the day and her hair smells like strawberries and the world stops when she smiles at me but- but it's not like I'm in love with her!" He laughed nervously. Sam and Max exchanged a look. They then smiled at Dean "Would you stop!" Max and Sam continued staring and smiling. "Blink or something!"

"You're in love with her." Sam said, smiling

"Oh god." Dean rolled his eyes

"You are!" Max grinned at him "You're totally smitten!"

"Smitten?!" Dean scoffed, amused "I- I don't get smitten, okay? I- I- I smite." Dean turned to the impala. Max and Sam laughed and followed him

"Oh, man," Max chuckled "You totally wanna be Faith's boyfriend-" Dean's eyes widened a little as he looked at his sister

" "Boyfriend"," he repeated, using air quotes "I don't want to be Faith's "boyfriend."," Sam gave him a look

"Well, what do you want, then?" Dean groaned, finally giving in as he leaned against the impala

"I don't know!" Dean exclaimed, glaring at his siblings "I just want to be with her." He confessed "All the time. I want to hear about her day and tell her about mine." Sam and Max smirked knowingly "I want to hold her hand and smell her hair." He suddenly realised what he'd just confessed and glared when he saw his siblings amused faces. He scoffed, letting out a forced laugh as he pushed himself off the impala "But I don't want to be her stupid boyfriend." Max and Sam watched him in amusement

"Dean, what you just described is a relationship between a boyfriend and a girlfriend." Sam told him as Max placed a hand on Dean's shoulder

"And a pretty clingy one at that." Sam pointed at his sister, nodding in agreement. Dean just shook his head, shoving his sister's hand away

"Mm-mm," he insisted "No, no way." Sam and Max raised their eyebrows "I'm telling you the truth! That chapter of my life is done." He stated "I'm absolutely 110% not in love with Faith Dorothea

Bishop." Sam scoffed, exchanging a look with Max

"Of course," Sam smiled "that's why you just went on about her blueberry smelling hair." Sam said

"Strawbe-" Dean stopped himself. Sam smiled and gave him and amused look. Dean stared at him silently, glaring at his brother and sister. He stared at the ground, glanced at Max and Sam, then looked back to the ground. "Get in the car." He ordered, avoiding the questions as he got in himself "Get in the car!" Max and Sam looked smug

-

Motel room - Day

Faith was sat alone at the table, still researching on her laptop. There was a knock at the door. Faith looked at the door oddly before getting up and walking to it. She opened it, revealing a tired looking Dean

"Dean, hey," Faith said, smiling

"Hey." Dean smiled. The two stood in silence

"I thought you'd be in a bar or something," she confessed. Dean nodded slightly. They stood in silence for a moment "You realise yours an Sam's room is next door-" she began. Dean looked at her

"Right! I uh.. I just wanted to know how uh... Things were..." he paused "Can I come in?" Faith nodded and smiled

"Uh, yeah. Sure" Faith sighed and closed the motel door "Where are Max and Sam?" she asked. Dean shrugged

"Not here." he said.

"All right." Faith nodded and sat in front of her laptop "So, uh, what brings you to my room?"

"Trying to find the connection between the three victims." dean said "By the way, did you talk to Cassie or her mom about, what todd said about not being a racist?"

"I did." Faith told him "Cassie said that her mom didn't want to talk about it."

"Right." Dean nodded. There was another short silence. "So just then, why did you ask where Sam and Max were?" Faith just shook her head and looked at her laptop

"Nothing." she said "Not important."

"Could it be because, without them here it's just you and me?" Dean asked. Faith looked down before looking over at him, slightly annoyed "Not you, me, Max and Sam which would be easier?"

"It's not... It's not easier...." Faith said. She sighed "Look, I..."

"No." Dean said, turning away "Forget it. It's fine. We'll keep it strictly business." Faith gave a cold chuckle and stood up, looking at Dean

"I forgot you do that." she said. Dean turned around and looked back at her

"Do what?" he asked

"Oh. Whenever we get... What's the word.... Close?" Faith asked. She folded her arms "Anywhere in the neighbourhood of emotional vulnerability, you back off. Or make some joke. Or find any way to shut the door on me!" Dean looked somewhat offended as he barked out a laugh

"Oh that's hilarious." he said, walking back to stand in front of her "See, I'm not the one who took that big final door and slammed it behind me."

"Ok wait a minute..." Faith began

"And I'm not the one who took the key and buried it!" Dean almost yelled. Faith raised an eyebrow

"We done with this metaphor?" she asked

"All I'm saying is I was totally up front with you back then, and you nailed me for it!" Dean said. Faith scoffed, staring at him in disbelief

"You cheated on me!" Faith yelled "What did you expect me to do? Be totally cool? Forget about it? Did you really expect me to be able to forget or forgive when every time I left you alone I just had the thought that you might be sleeping with someone else?!"

"I said I was sorry!" Dean screamed back. Faith laughed at him

"Not good enough!" She yelled "what made you think that being sorry was going to rebuild the trust you broke?!"

"Faye-" Dean tried to butt in

"The guy I'm with, the guy I'm hoping might be in my future, the guy that I had fallen in love with, lies to me!" she screamed

"I never meant for that to happen!" Dean yelled

"Really?!" Faith asked "Well then what did you mean to put it in?! Her purse?!" Dean clenched his jaw "Did you just slip and fall into her va-"

"That's not what I mean!" Dean yelled, stepping forward and getting in her face "I never meant for any of that to happen! And it's not like she meant-"

"Yeah, yeah I know!" Faith yelled "I've heard it all before! "She didn't anything to me." , "Really, baby, I was thinking of you the whole time." " she mocked Dean's voice

"Well all of that's true!" Dean yelled, grabbing her wrist

"And yet she was worth jeopardising our relationship!!" Faith yelled, ripping her wrist from his grasp

"Look, I didn't think there was a relationship to jeopardise!" Dean told her "I thought we were broken up."

"No! We were taking a break!" Faith screamed "We were hitting pause!"

"That, for all I knew would, could last forever!" Dean said "That to me is a break-up." Faith glared at him, clenching her jaw

"You think you're gonna get out of this on a technicality?!" She asked

"Look, I'm not trying to get out of anything, alright?!" Dean yelled "I thought our relationship was dead!"

"Well, you sure had a hell of a time at the wake!" Faith snapped. Faith folded her arms "And, Dean? There is no 'was' okay?! Our relationship is dead. There is no coming back from what you did!" She pointed at him. Dean looked her sadly. He breathed in, about to say something, but then paused to look at Faith.

"Look Faith, I-I'm sorry, okay, I'm so sorry. I- I was out of my mind. I thought I'd lost you; I didn't know what to do." Faith looked down and away from Dean, trying to hide her tears "Come on! Come on, how insane must I have been to do something like that? Huh? I-I don't cheat right? I- that- that's not me!" Faith shook her head "Look, I- I did a terrible, stupid, stupid thing. Okay? And I'm sorry, I wish I could take it back, but I can't!" Faith looked at him sadly, thinking "What I did...." he finally lowered his voice slightly "What I did to you was the worst mistake I've ever made in my life. Okay? I never meant to hurt you."

"Yeah? Well you did, Dean!" Faith yelled, standing up and getting in Dean's face

"I'm sorry!" Dean shouted

"You should be!" Faith yelled back. Faith folded her arms, thinking. She shook her head, looking down "I think you should leave."

"Faith I-" Dean began

"I said go." Faith said sternly

"Faith, listen! I-"

"Get out!" She yelled at him. She began to make her way to the door to open it but Dean grabbed her arm

"No!" Dean said "I'm not running away from this! Not again!" She glared at him "Faith, listen, we're in a tough spot again, right? And what do you want to do?" He asked, not raising his voice this time "How do you want to handle it? Huh? Do you wanna fight for us? Or, do you wanna bail?" Faith pulled her arm away from Dean harshly and he sighed "Faith, what I did happened years ago when I was some- some douchebag that thought everyone was going to stick around no matter what I did and you taught me that's not true!"

"Great!" Faith yelled "Good to know I'm just a small steppingstone in the fabulous life of the amazing Dean freaking Winchester!" she shoved him backwards

"Bullshit!" Dean screamed "Losing you was the worst thing that ever happened to me!! And I'm never gonna stop telling you that I'm sorry!" Dean yelled, his face extremely close to Faith's.

The two stared at each other for a moment, examining one another's faces. Dean suddenly grabbed Faith and pulled her close, kissing her furiously. Faith kissed beck for a moment before pulling away. She stared at Dean, breathing heavily. The two of them looked into each other's eyes for along moment. Faith suddenly wrapped her arms around Dean's neck, kissing him passionately and pulling him close.

Dean pinned Faith against the wall, holding her wrists as the two kissed deeply. Dean slowly moved his kisses around her, making his way to her neck by kissing her jaw and moving down wards, sucking on her neck gently once he got there; Faith ran her fingers through his hair. He then pulled away smirking as Faith smashed her lips back onto Dean's. Dean picked her up; Faith cupped Dean's cheeks and wrapped her legs around him as the two kissed. He threw her down on the bed gently, tearing off his shirt before crawling onto the bed and kissing her deeply, pulling her shirt over her head. Faith reached down, unbuckling dean's belt then undoing the buttons as she slowly pulled down his pants, Dean kicked them off to help. Dean rolled them over again and continued to kiss her for several moments, pulling Faith's jeans down and off her legs almost effortlessly. Faith then wrapped her arms around is neck, rolling over so she was on top, straddling Dean. The two pulled away and looked at each other smiling. Faith started to plant small kisses on his chest, trailing up to his neck where she kissed him passionately, making sure to leave hickeys. She then pulled away smirking at Dean as they kissed again, the two melting together in the kiss.

[End of Song]

Outside - Building site

The mayor stood looking at plans. He folded them up and made his way back to his car. Before he could get in the black truck pulled up behind him, reving it's engine. The mayor started to run down the road. The truck hit him; he fell down an embankment and rolls to a stop, obviously dead.

Motel room - Faith's bed

Dean was lying on his back, his arm around Faith tucked against his side.

"We should fight more often." She said, smiling up at him. Dean started at the roof, absentmindedly running his fingers up and down her arm

"Absolutely." He agreed

"Actually we were always pretty good at fighting." She sighed before indicating their position "this we were good at. It's all the other stuff...Not so much." Dean look down at her sadly

"Hey, I tried." He said, "Telling you what I did was the hardest thing I'd ever done because I knew that you would find out,"

"Why'd you tell me?" Faith asked "After you... You know"

"I don't know." dean confessed "I guess I couldn't lie to you."

"Dean, you..." she sighed "You didn't cheat. I, mean, not really. I said we were done and I... I think I meant it," slowly, she glanced up, finally forcing herself to make eye contact with the man staring in awe at her confession, "Y'know back then I... maybe I was looking for a reason to walk away,"

"Yeah.." Dean confessed, trying to ignore the shock on Faith's features, "Me too..." he trailed off, sighing deeply as he glanced down in thought, "I didn't cheat, Fi, but I may as well have," shrugging guiltily, Dean closed his eyes when Faith's fingertips traced lightly across his chest, "I mean I was single for a couple days I..." he shook his head, unsure how to excuse himself or how Faith was still watching him with admiration and not hate, "Y'know... in our work.... we see some horrible shit," Faith raised a brow at the over-simplification of their job, "Shit that can't be explained. We deal with them. But working things out with you?"

"Oh, I'm a scary one all right....." Dean chuckled and Faith smiled at him "Well, usually things get worked out. When you really want them to," pensively, Faith bit her bottom lip, hands gripping the bedsheets over her chest before she glanced down at Dean again,  "I missed you," she confessed nervously, expecting the worst. But Dean only smiled and looking at her hesitantly, as if changing his reply a thousand times in his head

"You missed me or you missed sex with me?"

Faith's nerves soon turned to a grin, "How's both?"

"Both is good," Dean whispered, hand sliding up to tangle in her hair, gripping the back of her neck

"Yeah," meeting him in the middle, Faith planted a deep kiss on the older Winchester's lips, grip loosening on the bedsheet as it slid up Dean's chest to his cheek. But smiles soon turned to laughter and Dean pulled away, confused yet amused, "Fuck, we just made things complicated for us,"

Closing his eyes, Dean flopped dramatically back onto the pillows beneath him, hands behind his head, "Little early for 'the talk' don't you think?" although Faith looked unconvinced at that

"I think the rules are a little different for exes that are trying and failing to be just friends," she smirked, tilting her head and raising her eyebrows. Dean laughed, moving hid hand towards Faith once again

"Shit, you might be right," he nodded, fiddling with the ends of her auburn locks

"I usually am,"

"Now I gotta change my status to 'it's complicated," Dean joked, earning a playful shrug from the angered redhead

"Shut up, I'm serious!"

"So am I!" Dean continued to tease, "The people deserve to know,"

"Dean!" Faith struggled to glare through her laughter, sitting up fully and making sure to fully cover herself with the sheets as she did

"Alright!" Dean sighed, still grinning as he ran a thoughtful hand through his hair, "Alright... So we're..."

"Friends," Faith finished, the statement rather than suggestion throwing Dean off slightly

"Friends," he repeated in a much less certain tone

"Yeah,"

"With benefits?" he grinned, hand meeting the top of the sheet to attempt to pull it away from Faith, but her harsh grip only meant her now more angered than amused face was brought closer to his

"Dean-"

"Cause I think the benefits are my favourite part of our friendship," he smirked, going in for a kiss he was sure she would reject

And, of course, she did, "Asshole!" harshly, she pulled back whilst her palm smacked into his shoulder

"Alright, alright!" Dean laughed at jut how easy it still was to get under her skin, "Friends,"

"Friends,"

"Just friends?"

"Just friends,"

"But we can still have sex, right?" Faith smiled and leaned down, kissing him deeply. She ran her fingers through his hair and they remained kissing for a moment longer before Dean's phone rang and he pulled away reached for it. "What?" he asked. Dean listened and looked startled. "You're kidding?"

-

Outside - Field

It was snowing; Dean and Faith approached Max and Sam, who were talking to a cop. Max and Sam were putting away some sort of ID's

"They're with us" Sam said. The cops left. Dean and Faith turned to Sam and Max; Dean had a half smile.

"Where were you two last night?" Sam asked them "You didn't make it back to the hotel room."

"Well..." Faith began

"We were... Working things out" Dean said

"You'll be working things out when we're ninety!" Max said "Come on just admit that you two are perfect together"

"Max, we're not here to talk about this, okay?" Faith said "It's just unimportant" she said sighed "So what happened?"

"Every bone crushed." Sam explained "Internal organ's turned to pudding. The cops are all stumped, it's like something ran him over."

"Something like a truck?" Dean asked

"Yep." Max said

"Tracks?" Faith questioned

"Nope." Max said

"What was the mayor doing here anyway?" Dean asked

"He owned the property." Sam said "Bought it a few weeks ago."

"But he's white, he doesn't fit the pattern." Faith told them

"Killings didn't happen up on the road." Sam said "That doesn't fit either."

-

Newspaper office

Faith brought two cups of coffee to where Dean was sat at a computer.

"Caffeine" she said, smiling at Dean. He nodded

"Thanks." Dean smiled before looking back at the computer "So I'm trying to find some link between those killings back in the '60s and what's going on now. There wasn't a lot about it in the paper."

"Not surprising." Faith told him "Probably minimal police work too. Back then equal justice under the law wasn't too literal around here." Suddenly Faith's phone started to ring. She pulled it out and saw that the contact number said 'Sam'

"Whatcha got Gigantor?" She asked upon answering it. Sam sighed at the nickname

"Ok, the courthouse records show that Mr and Mrs mayor bought an abandoned property." He explained "The previous owner was the dorian family for, like, 150 years."

"Dorian?" Faith asked

"Yeah." Sam said

"Didn't Cassie say the Dorian family used to own this paper?" She asked

"Yeah" Dean agreed, looking at the computer "along with everything else around here. Real pillars of the town."

"Right, right." Faith said. Dean clicked a few links on the computer.

"Huh" Dean said upon reading the information

"That's interesting." Faith told them

"What?" Sam asked

"This Cyrus Dorian. He vanished in April of '63." Faith old him "The case was investigated but never solved. It was right around the time the string of murders was going on back then."

"Well I pulled a bunch of papers up on the Dorian place, it musta been in bad shape when the mayor bought." Sam explained

"Why's that?" Faith asked

"The first thing he did was bulldoze the place." Sam explained.

"Mayor Todd knocked down the Dorian place?"

"It was a big deal." Dean said, reading from the computer "One of the oldest houses left. He made the front page."

"You got a date?" Faith asked

"Ahhh." Sam said, looking for it "The 3rd of last month." Dean clicked, then read from his computer screen. Faith handed him the phone so that Sam could hear

"Mayor Todd bulldozed the dorian family home on the 3rd." He said "The first killing was the very next day."

-

Night - Cassie's house

Cassie was wandering around with a glass of something. As she put it down on the desk the lights flickered and she heard a reving engine outside. Headlights shone through the slats of the blinds and she hurriedly closed them. The truck started making passes at the house and Cassie. Terrified, she ran from room to room closing the blinds. She raced for her phone and dialed a number.

"Max." She yelled, panicked "Max!"

-

Later - Cassie's lounge

Sam handed her a cup of tea. Max sat beside her protectively.

"Maybe you could throw a couple of shots in that" Cassie said, her hands shaking, rattling the cup

"You didn't see who was driving the truck?" Faith asked

"It seemed to be no one." Cassie explained "Everything was moving so fast. And then it was just gone. Why didn't it kill us?"

"Whoever was controlling the truck wants you afraid first." Max said. Faith sighed and looked at Cassie's mom

"Mrs Robinson, Cassie said that your husband saw the truck before he died." Mrs Robinson was shaking.

"Mom?" Cassie asked

"Oh." She said "Martin was under a lot of stress. You can't be sure about what he was seeing."

"Well after tonight I think we can be reasonably sure he was seeing a truck." Max said "What happened tonight, you and Cassie are marked. Ok? Your daughter could die. So if you know something now would be a really good time to tell us about it."

"Max..." Cassie held her arm

"Yes." Mrs Robinson confessed "Yes, he said he saw a truck."

"Did he know who it belonged to?" Faith asked

"He thought he did." Mrs Robinson told them

"Who was that?" Dean asked

"Cyrus." Mrs Robinson said sadly "A man named Cyrus." Sam, Max, Faith and Dean looked at each other, Max reached for her bag and showed Mrs Robinson the newspaper article about Dorian's death.

"Is this Cyrus?" She asked

"Cyrus Dorian died more than 40 years ago." Mrs Robinson said plainly

"How do you know he died, Mrs Robinson?" Sam asked "The paper's said he went missing. How do you know he died?"

"We were all very young." Mrs Robinson told them "I dated cyrus a while, I was also seeing Martin...In secret of course. Inter-racial couples didn't go over too well back then. When I broke it off with Cyrus and when he found out about Martin, I don't know, he, changed. His hatred. His hatred was frightening."

"The murders." Sam realised

"There were rumours" Mrs Robinson said, sounding upset "People of colour disappearing into some kind of a truck. Nothing was ever done. Martin and a... Martin and I, we were gonna be, uh, married in that little church near here, but last minute we decided to elope as we didn't want the attention."

"And Cyrus?" Faith asked. Mrs Robinson began completely breaking down

"The day we set for the wedding, was the day someone set fire to the church." She said "There was a children's choir practising in there. They all died."

"Did the attacks stop after that?" Faith asked softly

"No!" Mrs Robinson cried. She continued to sob "There was one more. One night that truck came for Martin. Cyrus beat him something terrible. But Martin, you see, Martin got loose. And he started hitting Cyrus and he just kept hitting him and hitting him."

"Why didn't you call the cops?" Dean asked

"This was forty years ago "Mrs Robinson said, crying "He called on his friends, Clayton Soames and Jimmy Anderson, and they put Cyrus' body into the truck and they rolled it into the swamp at the end of his land and all three of them kept that secret all of these years."

"And now all three are gone" Max said

"And so is Mayor Todd." Dean said "Now he said that you of all people would know he is not a racist. Why would he say that?"

"He was a good man." Mrs Robinson explained "He was a young deputy back then investigating Cyrus' disappearence. Once he figured out what Martin and the others had done he...He did nothing, because he also knew what Cyrus had done."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Cassie asked her mom, also in tears

"I thought I was protecting them." Mrs Robinson said, still crying "I thought I was protecting them. And now there's no one left to protect."

"Yes there is." Max said. She looked at Cassie. So did Mrs Robinson, looking shaken.

-

Outside - Cassie's house - Night

Dean and Faith, Sam was leaning against Impala. Max was pacing worriedly.

"Ah, my life was so simple." Sam said, Faith looked up at him and raised an eyebrow "Just school, exams, papers on polycentric cultural norms."

"Wow you did not spend any time doing the fun stuff in collage." Faith said. Sam gave her a look

"I guess we saved you from a normal existence." Max told him

"Yeah, occasionally I miss normal." Sam confessed

"Normal is boring" Faith told Sam, smiling at him slightly

"Yeah, well I miss boring too" Sam confessed. Dean sighed an sat up slightly

"So this killer truck." He said, hanging the subject

"I miss conversations that didn't start with 'this killer truck'." Sam said. Sam, Faith, Dean and Max chuckled

"Well this Cyrus guy. Evil on a level that infected even his truck." Faith said "When he died, the swamp became his tomb, and his spirit was dormant for 40 years."

"So what woke it up?" Sam asked

"The construction on his house." Max suggested "Or the destruction."

"Right." Faith nodded "Demolition or remodelling can awaken spirits, make them restless."

"Mmm-hmm." Dean agreed

"Like that theatre in illinois, ya know?" Sam stared

"And the guy that tore down the family homestead," Dean said "Harold Todd, is the same guy that kept Cyrus' murder quiet and unsolved."

"So now his spirit is awakened and out for blood." Sam said

"Yeah I guess." Max nodded "Who knows what ghosts are thinking anyway." Faith sighed

"You know we're going to have to dredge that body up from the swamp, right?" She said. Dean smiled at her.

"Man." Sam muttered, smiling despite

"You said it" Dean nodded

"Yeah." Max sighed. Cassie approached from the house. Max stood straight and looked at her.

"Hey." She said

"Hey." Cassie smiled "She's asleep. Now what."

"Well you should stay put and look after her... And we'll be back." Max said "Don't leave the house." Cassie nodded

"Okay" she said. Max smiled at her as she, Dean, Sam and Faith got into the the cars and drove away.

-

Night - The Dorian property

The four of them were stood outside of the Impala

"All right." Sam said "Let's get her up." Dean was at the wheel of a tractor. He backed it up, pulling a truck from the water.

"All right." Max said "A little more. Little more." She paused "All right, stop!" She said. Dean turned off the engine and jumps down.

"Nice." Sam said

"Hell yeah" Dean said, moving to the trunk of the Impala

"Now I know what she sees in you." Sam said. Faith folded her arms

"Would you let it go?" She asked as Dean rummaged among the weapons

"Come on guys, you can admit it." Max said

"You're still in love with her." Sam said; pointed at Dean "And you're still in love with him" he pointed at Faith

"Ahh, can we focus please?" Dean asked

"We're just saying, guys." Max said. Faith an Dean ignored them. Dean handed Sam something from the trunk

"Hold that." He said

"All right." Sam said "What am I getting?"

"Gas" Dean said, now business mode

"Flashlight..." Faith said, pulling a few out from the trunk of the Impala

"Got it." Sam said

"Got it." Max nodded

"Okay"Dean the trunk "let's get this done." Faith nodded

"All right." Sam said. They moved towards the door of the truck, glanced at each other. Faith opened it and decayed body falls out. Dean made a face and Faith glanced over her shoulder and raised an eyebrow at him

"All right let's get to it." Faith said. They salt and burned the body and stood watching.

"Think that'll do it?" Sam asked. Faith breathed in to reply but was soon interrupted by the ghost truck appears, headlights on and engine reving.

"I guess not." She said. The engine of the car revved angrily again.

"So burning the body had no effect on that thing?" Sam asked

"Sure it did." Faith said "Now it's really pissed."

"But Cyrus' ghost is gone, right?" Sam asked

"Apparently not the part that's fused with the truck." Dean said as he stared walking away.

"Where you going?" Faith asked

"Goin' for a little ride." Dean said

"What!?" Faith asked

"Gonna lead that thing away." Dean said "That busted piece of shit, you gotta burn it." Faith ran towards the car

"How the fuck are we supposed to burn a truck Dean?!" Max yelled

"I don't know!" Dean yelled back "Figure something out." Throwing a bag at Max and she caught it

"Figure some -- something --" Sam sputters. He and Max exchanged a look as Dean reversed the impala and took off, Faith in the passenger seat. The ghost truck roars after him. Sam and Max hid until it has passed; Dean, Faith and the Impala lead the truck on a wild ride through the misty back roads. Sam's phone rings he answer d it, not taking his eyes off the direction Faith and Dean had gone in

"Hey, you gotta give us a minute." He said

"We don't have a fucking minute!" Faith told him "What the fuck are we doing?"

"Uhh." Sam searched him mind "Let me get back to you." he hung up

-

Impala

Faith looked at the phone, astounded

"Get back to me?!" She asked

-

Night - Dorian Property

Sam picked up on phone again

"Hey Cassie?" He asked "Hey, it's Sam, I need some information and it has to be exactly right."

-

Impala

Dean was speeding down the road, Cyrus on his tail.

"Drive faster!" Faith yelled, looking behind him

"Don't yell at me!" Dean yelled. Faith glared at him

"Fuck you! I'm not ready to die!" Faith's phone began to ring again and she quickly answered it "This better be good." Faith yelled, putting Sam on speaker

"Where are you?" Sam asked

"In the middle of fucking no where with a killer truck on our ass!" Faith yelled "It's like it knows Dean put the torch to Cyrus."

"Listen to me, this is important." Sam said "I have to know exactly where you are." Dean looked at a road sign as the impala roared passed

"Decatur road," he yelled to Sam "about two miles off the highway."

"Ok." Sam said "Headed east?"

"Yes!" Dean and Faith yelled in unison. The truck backends the Impala, which went skidding all over the road before regaining traction. Faith screamed as they swayed

"You son of a bitch!" Dean yelled

"Turn left!" Sam said "No right!"

"Which way?!" Dean screamed

-

Dorian Property

Max snatched the phone from Sam

"Right! Turn right!" Max yelled "Up ahead, turn right!"

-

Impala

Dean swung right, the truck followed, both engines screaming and revving.

"You make the turn?" Max asked

"Yeah I made the fuckin' turn!" Dean yelled "You need to move this thing along a little faster!"

"All right, you see a road up ahead?" Max asked

"No!" Dean yelled worriedly "Wait. No, yes, I see it." The truck was slowly gaining ground on the Impala's left side.

"Dean.." Faith yelled in a warning tone

"Ok, turn left." Max said

"Wha...?" Dean trailed off. Grimacing, Dean slammed on the brakes and the truck careened past as he spun the Impala left onto the smaller road.

"All right, now what?" Faith asked

"You need to go seven tenths of a mile and then stop." Sam explained

"Stop?!" Dean asked

"Exactly seven tenths Dean." Dean looked at the speedometer

"Seven tenths, seven tenths." He repeated to himself. At the right moment Dean spun the car around and moves it back to sit exactly where Sam advised, facing back the way he had come. Faith and Dean sat between two posts on each side of the road and the last remains of a wall, almost totally broken down. The ghost truck appeared back down the road he came down, revving it's engine.

"You guys still there?" Max asked

"Yeah." Faith replied

"What's happening?" Sam asked

"It's just staring at us," Dean said "What do I do?"

"Just what you are doing," Max said "bringing it to you."

"Wha..." Dean trailed off. The truck spun it's tyres and came barreling toward Dean and the impala. Dean watched it come, one hand hanging tightly to the impala's steering wheel and the other squeezing Faith's hand

"Come on," he whispered "come on," As it reached them, they closed their eyes and hung on tight. The truck roared through them, disintegrating into nothing as it did so. Faith opened one eye before opening the other. Deans eyes snapped open and he and Faith stared at the now empty road in front of them. All that could be heard was the purring of the Impala's engine, the truck's revving having completely disappeared. Dean and Faith twisted quickly to look behind and saw nothing.

"Guys?" Sam asked "You still there? Guys?"

Faith and Dean looked around, shocked

"Where'd it go?" Faith asked

"Faith, you're where the church was." Sam explained

"What church!?" Dean yelled

"The place Cyrus burned down." Sam explained "Murdered all those kids." Dean looked at the posts left on the side of the road

"There's not a whole lot left." He said

-

Dorian Property

"Church ground is hallowed ground, whether the church is still there or not." Max said "Evil spirits cross over hallowed ground, sometimes they're destroyed, so we figured, maybe, that would get rid of it."

"Maybe?" Dean repeated

-

Impala

Dean glared as he looked at the phone

"The fuck do you mean maybe!?! What if you were wrong?" He yelled

-

Dorian Property

Max and Sam exchanged a look

"Huh." She said, shrugging a little "Honestly that thought hadn't occurred to me."

-

IMPALA

Dean an Faith stared at each other, stared at his phone, then hung up

"Well it honestly didn't occur to me." Dean mimicked; he slapped the steering wheel "I'm gonna fuckin' kill 'em." Faith laughed slightly. Dean smiled at her and laughed a bit too

-

Day - The docks

Cassie and Max were talking by the front door. Behind them was the Impala where Sam, Faith and Dean were standing next to each other leaning it and waiting for Max.

"My mother said to tell you thanks again." Cassie said. Max nodded and smiled "This is a better goodbye than last time." She said

"Yeah" Max said "I'll... I'll see you around, Cassie" she hugged her and Cassie hugged back "stay safe" she let go and stepped away

"I will" Cassie said "and if any more ghosts or vampires come around-"

"Be sure to give me a call" Max finished. Cassie smiled at her as Max walked away

"Goodbye, Max" she said.

"I'll see ya Cassie...." Max said "I will." She reached the Impala and got in along with Dean. Faith, Dean and Sam waved goodbye as they got into the cars and drove away.

-

Long country road

Faith stared out the window while Sam drove. Dean and Max were sleeping in the back.

"You okay?" Sam asked. Faith nodded

"Yeah" she said "I'm just... thinking" she said, fiddling with her necklace. Sam glanced at her then back at the road "wondering if I'm making... good life choices" Sam chuckled

"Yeah aren't we all" he said. Faith sighed. She looked at Sam for a long moment, then smiled and reached for her sunglasses, which he slipped on. "So..." he sighed "Are you two back together?" Faith looked back at Dean then at Sam

"I don't know" She confessed.

"Do you want to be?" Sam glanced over at her. Faith looked down and out of the window before sighing

"Why don't you wake me up when it's my turn to drive?" She asked. Faith slouches down in the seat with a sigh. Sam shook his head and looked back at the long straight road.
