[Song: Higher Mathematics - Split Habit]

A girl in a pink shirt was lying on a bed reading a magazine

"Okay" A brunette girl said as she walked out of the bathroom in a button up blue top and a jeans mini skirt "what do you think?"

"Um" The girl in the pink sat up, unsure of how to tell her friend she didn't like it

"Oh god" the brunette said "Too Martha Stuart?"

The girl in the pink put a finger up, whispering "one second" before she stood up and made her way to the dresser. She took out one of her own red t- shirts and made her way over to the brunette excitedly

"Here" the girl in the pink top said as she handed the brunette the red top "Wear this"

"Um" the brunette said, turning the top so she could see it in the mirror in front of them "I don't know if this is really "me" "

"Lori" the girl in the pink top said "There's a hot chick buried somewhere in there and-"

"Okay, okay" Lori said, walking to the other side of the room to change into the red top.

When she had finished she turned to look at her friend

"So?" Lori asked

"Damn, girl" her friend said with a satisfied smile "He's not gonna know what hit him"

Lori smiled nervously then looked into the mirror

"Okay" she said, as she looked at herself. "I think he's probably downstairs" She began to gather up her things for the date "I'll see you later"

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do." her friend said

"There's nothing you wouldn't do." Lori said as she was at the door, before she left the room, closing the door behind her

"That's true" her friend said, smiling to herself

9 Mile Road

Lori's boyfriend's car pulled up.

Standing behind the trees, there was a tall figure with a hook.

"I thought we were going to the party." Lori said

"Well, we can't arrive on time." Rich replied

-

Rich's car

"You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you brought me here on purpose." Lori said

"What?" Rich asked, feigning shock "I'm offended."

"You wanna get that?" Rich asked

"Definitely not." Lori replied, shutting the ringer off. They resumed kissing, and Rich put his hand under Lori's halter strap. She pulled away and moved his hand. "No." she said

"It's okay." Rich told her. Lori looked uncomfortable. Outside, the figure with the hook was moving slowly out from the trees. Back inside the car, Rich began kissing Lori's neck and put his hand back under her strap. She looked even more uncomfortable and pulled away.

"Hey, I mean it." They heard a loud screeching noise. Outside, the man was dragging his hook along a Dead End sign.

"What was that?" looking around

"I don't know." They heard the Same sound.

-

Outside

The man dragged his hook along a sign that said 9 Mile Road.

-

Car

"What is that?" He opened the car door.

"No! Rich, no!" Lori said

"No, just wait here." He got out of the car and shuts the door. Lori looked terrified. Outside, Rich was looking around when he hears more screeching. He turns to see a long scratch being made on the side of his car, but the Hook Man was invisible.) What the hell?

"Rich, let's go!" Lori said.

The back tire got punctured.

She screamed loudly.

Outdoor café

Sam was on a payphone. Dean was sitting at the table. Max was standing outside the payphone with a cigarette

"Your half-frap, double cap, vanilla latte is getting cold over hear Francis." she heard Dean call teasingly to Sam as he walked over to join him at the table

"Bite me." Sam said. Max walked back over to her brothers, cigarette still in her hand; she laughed as she walked back over to the table. "Max, you're smoking again?" Sam asked, staring at the cigarette somewhat longingly

"Well, technically, three years ago I was 'smoking again'."  Max told him Dean gave her a look as she spoke "So today I'm... I'm smoking still."

"You know, smoking is a bad habit," Dean said, looking over at his brother "Right Sam?" Sam cleared his throat and nodded unconvincingly

"Y-Yeah!" he told her. Dean looked at him oddly "I mean, God, not only is that a filthy habit, but also," Sam finally gave in, leaning towards Max "can I bum one? " Max nodded

"Sure." she nodded, pulling the pack from her pocket. Dean looked at his brother, disbelieving

"Sam?!" Dean asked

"Yes, yes I know! But after this one, I'm out! I am done, I am out." Dean gave him a look as Max gave Sam the cigarette. Sam held it up "Last Cigarette Ever!"

"What are you doing?" Dean asked "You haven't smoked since you left for collage." Sam gave him a look "Really?"

"Collage is stressful, okay?" Sam defended himself "but this is the last one!"

"Sam, I've heard it all before-" Dean protested

"Last. Cigarette. Ever." Sam tried to convince Dean. He gave dean puppy dog eyes; Dean rolled his eyes and sighed

"So, anybody got anything?" he asked. Max and Sam shook their heads

"I got nothing." Sam said, lighting his cigarette "I had them check the FBI's missing person database, no John Doe's matching Dad's description. I even ran his plates for traffic violations." Sam blew smoke into the air and sighed deeply. Dean rolled his eyes and Max chuckled.

"Guys, I'm tellin' ya, I don't think Dad wants to be found." Sam looked disappointed and Max looked away. Dean glanced at the laptop then back at his siblings "Check this out." He showed the twins an article on the computer about Rich's death. "It's a news item out of Planes Courier. Ankeny, Iowa. It's only about a hundred miles from here."

""The mutilated body was found near the victim's car, parked on 9 Mile Road."" Max read aloud

"Keep reading." Dean insisted

""Authorities are unable to provide a realistic description of the killer. The sole eyewitness, whose name has been withheld, is quoted as saying the attacker was invisible."" Sam continued. He and his sister exchanged a look

"Could be something interesting." Max said

"Or it could be nothing at all." Sam replied. He looked at Dean "One freaked out witness who didn't see anything? Doesn't mean it's the Invisible Man."

"But what if it is?" Dean asked. Sam shook his head and Dean looked to his younger sister for help. Max sighed, looking over at Sam

"Dad would check it out." She told him. Sam gave her a look and Max smiled a little and Sam sighed, giving in.

-

On the road

The Impala was speeding down the highway towards Ankeny, Iowa.

-

Frat house - outside

They pulled up in front of a fraternity house and stopped the car. Max started to get out of the car, but was stopped by both her brothers.

"One more time," Sam began "why are we here?"

"Victim lived here. " Dean explained

"Woah, woah, woah, wait" Sam said when Max began to get out of the car.

"What?" Max asked.

"You're not coming in, you're our little sister" Dean said

"I'm your younger sister Dean, I'm even ten minutes older than Sam, so-"

"We're not taking you in" Sam said

"Frat boys suck" Dean told her

"You're staying." Sam said

"They aren't gonna let you in without a hot girl" Max said

"Max" Dean said sternly "You're staying" Dean told her and he and Sam got out.

"No." Max said sternly, looking Dean in the eyes "I'm going" Dean looked at her weirdly before nodding

"Okay" he said, opening the door

"What?" Sam asked. Max looked at him confusedly, not knowing why that worked, but she smirked nonetheless, taking off her jacket and flannel, leaving her in a tank top, ripped skinny jeans, a few pieces of jewelry, and combat boots

"Don't worry boys" she said "I got this"

Max got out of the car, almost as if in slow motion. Her brothers looked confused as she put on her sunglasses, only realizing what she was doing when they began to hear wolf whistles and saw people staring

"That's our sister" Dean said, looking at Sam. The two of them exchanged a look before running after her, glaring at most of the boys around

-

Fraternity dorm room.

A shirtless frat boy in yellow shorts was painting his face and body purple. Max knock on his door, Sam and Dean stood behind her

"Who are you?" The frat boy asked Max  in a flirtatious tone

"We're your new roommates." Dean said, stepping forward "This is our sister"

"I'm just visiting" Max smiled "We're from Ohio" She smiled and walks over to the boy.

"My name's Sam" Sam said "That's Max and Dean."

The boy holds the brush and paint can out to Dean

"Do me a favor? Get my back." the frat boy said "Big game today."

"He's the artist." Dean said, pointing at Sam

"Yeah" Max agreed "Things he can do with a brush."

The two did a small secretive high five, earning a glare from Sam. Sam, mortified, took the brush and can. Max sat on a chair and picks up a magazine.

"So" she looked at the name on the magazine "Murph. Is it true?"

"What?" Murph asked

"We heard one of the guys around here got killed last week." Dean said

"Yeah." Murph replied sadly

"What happened?" Sam asked

"They're saying some psycho with a knife. Maybe a drifter passing through. Rich was a good guy."

"Rich... he was with somebody?" Sam asked

"Not just somebody." Murph replied, looking from Sam to Dean "Lori Sorensen."

"You just know she likes it dirty" Max joked. Dean stomped on her foot to shut her up.

"Who's Lori Sorensen?" Dean asked "You missed a spot." Dean said to Sam "Just down there

"On the back." Max pointed. Sam looked at them, annoyed. Dean and Max grinned.

"Lori's a freshman." Murph said

"New it" Max whispered, earning a glare from Sam

"She's a local. Super hot. And get this:" Murphy grinned "she's a reverend's daughter."

"Nice" Max said "I-I mean if you... like.. girls and all..." Dean and Sam rolled their eyes

"You wouldn't happen to know which church, would ya?" Dean asked

-

Church

"Our hearts go out to the family of a young man who perished. And my personal prayers of thanks go out as well because I believe he died trying to protect my daughter." The reverend said Lori looks embarrassed. "And now, as time heals all our wounds, we should reflect on what this tragedy means. To us, as a church-"

Sam, Max and Dean tried to get in as quietly as possible, but the wind caught the door and slammed it shut. The congregation goes silent and turns to look at them. Max laughed nervously and waved awkwardly as the three of them slowly wandered into the church

"as a community," the reverend continued "and as a family. The loss of a young person is particularly tragic. A life unlived is the saddest of passings." Sam, Max and Dean sat down.Lori turned back and looked at Sam. She smiled at him sadly and he smiled back with sympathy. "So, please, let us pray. For peace, for guidance, and for the power to protect our children."

Everyone bowed their head in prayer, except Dean and Sam.

Max elbowed them, and they, noticing everyone else, did the same

-

Later

"I can't." Lori told her friend "It's Sunday night."

"It's just us girls." Taylor told her "We're gonna do tequila shots and watch Reality Bites."

"My dad makes dinner every Sunday night." Lori said

"Come on, Lori." Taylor begged "I know this has been hard, but you are allowed to have fun."

"I'll try." Lori said, earning an eye roll from Taylor

"Okay." She said. They hugged and Taylor left.

Sam, Max and Dean walk up to Lori

"Are you Lori?" Sam asked

"Yeah." Lori said

"Hi, my name is Max." Max began "These are my brother's Sam and Dean. We just transferred here to the university"

"I saw you inside." Lori said

"We didn't want to bother you." Sam said "We just heard about what happened..."

"We just wanted to say how sorry we were." Dean said cutting off Max.

"I kinda know what you're going through. I saw...someone...get hurt. It' something you don't forget." Sam said trailing off and Max smiled at him reassuringly yet sadly. The reverend came up to them and Lori smiled at him

"Dad, um, This is Sam, Max, and Dean." She introduced.

"Pleasure to meet you, sir. I must say that was an inspiring sermon." Dean said and Max resisted the urge to burst out laughing.

"Thank you. It's so hard to find young people who are open to the Lord's message." The Reverend said. Dean chuckled

"Ya know Reverend, we're knew in town and we're looking for a new church group to join.

They lead the reverend away away from Sam  and Lori

"Yeah" Max agreed "And, uh, we were looking for a, um, a church group."

"Tell me, Lori." Sam said once he couldn't hear his brother and sister "What are the police saying?" Be began walking with her.

"Well, they don't have a lot to go on." Lori said "I think they blame me for that."

"What do you mean?" Sam asked

"My story." Lori said "I was so scared, I guess I was "seeing things". "

They stopped walking.

"That doesn't mean it wasn't real." Sam said

-

Library - Day

Sam, Dean, and Max went to the library after they finished at the church to see if there was any legend of an invisible man in the town before this.

"So, you believe her?" Dean asked Sam as he told them Lori's story.

"I do." Sam said.

"So you think she's hot too?" Max asked

"I do." Dean replied, smirking. They both chuckled and fist bumped

"No, guys," Sam said "there's something in her eyes. And listen to this: she heard scratching on the roof. Found the bloody body suspended upside down over the car."

"Wait, the body suspended?" Max asked "That sounds like the-"

"Yeah, I know, the Hook Man legend." Sam said

"That's one of the most famous urban legends ever." Dean said "You don't think that we're dealing with the Hook Man."

"Every urban legend has a source." Max said "A place where it all began."

"Yeah, but what about the phantom scratches and the tire punctures and the invisible killer?" Dean asked

"Well, maybe the Hook Man isn't a man at all." Sam suggested "What if it's some kind of spirit?"

-

Library

Table - day

Dean, Max and Sam at a table in the library. The Librarian placed a few big boxes in front of them.

"Here you go." she said "Arrest records going back to 1851."

Max blew some dust off a box and coughed

"Thanks." she said, smiling

"Okay" the Librarian said before she walked away.

"So, this is how you spent four good years of your life, huh?" Dean asked

"I don't like higher education" Max said

The three began reading despite

-

Hours later

They were still looking.

"Hey, check this out." Sam said. Max and Dean got up from the table and walked over to him "1862. A preacher named Jacob Karns was arrested for murder." Sam explained "Looks like he was so angry over the red light district in town that one night he killed 13 prostitutes. Uh, right here, "some of the deceased were found in their bed, sheets soaked with blood. Others suspended upside down from the limbs of trees as a warning against sins of the flesh." "

As Sam talked, Max pulled out a piece of paper from underneath the one Sam was reading

"Get this," Max said, looking at her brothers "the murder weapon? Looks like the preacher lost his hand in an accident. Had it replaced with a silver hook."

Sam pointed to another page.

"Look where all this happened." he said. Dean and Max looked

"9 Mile Road." Dean said. Max nodded

"Same place where the frat boy was killed."

"Nice job, Dr. Venkmen."  Dean said. He smiled, as if expecting some kind of response from Faith but got none. Max rolled her eyes

"Let's check it out." she said. Sam gathered all the research and they left

-

Lori's Sorority - collage dorm room

Rev. Sorensen pulled up in the driveway.

-

Car

Lori was sitting in the passenger seat of the car next to her father

"I know this is your first time really living alone since Mom died." Lori told him

"That's not it." her dad said "I worry about you."

"There are 22 girls in there and it's perfectly safe." Lori explained to him

"That's exactly what I'm worried about." he said "You don't think I know what goes on in there?"

"Dad, do we have to have this argument again?" Lori said "I'm over 18. I can live my own life."

"Oh, which means, drinking, partying with that roommate of yours?!" her dad asked

"I'm an adult." Lori said "I can take care of myself. Good night." She got out of the car angrily

"Lori." her dad begged "Lori, come-Lori!"

Lori slammed the door and left

-

Lori's sorority building

Lori is walking up the stairs and stops at a girl's bedroom doorway. There is a long scratch on the wall leading up to the doorway. Inside, the girl is working at her. Lori ignores it and walks into her bedroom. She is about to turn on the light when she sees Taylor sleeping and stops herself.

"Taylor, you awake?" Lori asked

Taylor didn't wake up.

Lori left her alone and went into her bathroom to get ready for bed.

-

9 Mile Road

Dean, Max and Sam drove up and got out of the car.

Max opened the trunk and handed Sam and Dean a rifle each.

"Here you go." Max said. Dean and Sam took them

" If it is a spirit, buckshot won't do much good." Sam said, looking in the gun

"Yeah, rock salt." Max said, holding it up and handing some to each of her brothers

"Huh." Sam said as he loaded his gun "Salt being a spirit deterrent."

Max took out a coil of rope and shut the trunk

"Yeah." Dean said, loading his too "It won't kill 'em. But it'll slow 'em down."

They started walking towards the trees

"That's pretty good." Sam said "You and Dad think of this?"

"Actually it was Max's idea" Dean said

"What'd I tell you?" Max asked "You don't have to be a collage graduate to be a genius" she smirked.

The three of them heard a noise coe from the bushes and froze.

Sam held up his gun, pointing it at the bushes

"Over there. Over there." Dean whispered.

Max looked at them, worried.

Sam aimed the gun and cocked it. A figure comes out from behind the trees.

A sheriff emerged from the trees, aiming the gun.

"Put the gun down now!" The sheriff yelled "Now! Put your hands behind your head."

"W-w-wait, okay, okay!" Dean said as all three of them put everything they were carrying down

"Now get down on your knees. Come on, do it! On your knees!" the sheriff said. The three obeyed, putting their hands behind their heads "Now get down on your bellies. Come on, do it!"

"He had the gun!" Max complained as the three of them reluctantly got down on their stomachs

-

Lori and Taylor's  bedroom

Lori came out of the bathroom in her pajamas, watched Taylor shift in her sleep, and got into bed.

The closet was still open, where the Hook Man is seen waiting.

-

Lori's bedroom - Morning

Lori rolled over in her bed and opened her eyes. She saw a puddle of blood on the floor. Lori looked up and saw blood dripping from Taylor's bed.

Taylor was dead.

There blood was everywhere.

"Oh my God." Lori said, before she screamed loudly. She looked on the wall near Taylor's bed.

Written in blood are the words "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?" Underneath the words was a large cross with four smaller crosses surrounding it, also written in blood.

Lori screamed again

-

CALUMET CO. SHERIFF'S DEPT.

Dean and Sam and Max were leaving.

"Saved your ass!" Max said, poking Sam "And I saved YOUR ass" she poked Dean "Talked the sheriff down to a fine. Guys, I am Matlock."

"But how?" Sam asked

"I told him you two were dumbass pledges and that we were hazing you. My "boyfriend" ran it and I'm a chick that runs some kind of sorority" she said

"What about the shotgun?" Dean asked

"I said that you were hunting ghosts and the spirits were repelled by rock salt." She said "You know, typical Hell Week prank."

"And he believed you?" Sam asked

"Well, you look like dumbass pledges." She smirked and her brothers glared at her.

Seconds later, several sheriffs ran out of the building and sped away in police cars.

Sam, Max and Dean exchanged a look.

-

Lori's sorority building.

Lori was wrapped in a blanket, sitting in the back of a parked ambulance. Sam, Max and Dean drove by and look at her.

Her father was standing by her

"I just want to take her home." Rev. Sorensen said

"I understand that, Reverend." The sheriff said "But Lori's now connected to two murders, and I can't ignore that."

"Listen to me." The reverend said "Arrest her now, or let me take her home." The sheriff thought about it for a second.

"Make sure she's available for questioning." He said

"Thank you." The reverend said. He walked over to Lori "Sweetheart, you ready to go home?" She stood up and started walking with him.

Dean, Max and Sam parked their car on another street. They got out and walk around to the back of Lori's sorority.

"Why would the Hook Man come here?" Max asked "This is a long way from 9 Mile Road."

"Maybe he's not haunting the scene of his crime. Maybe it's about something else."

Two sorority girl came out the side entrance of the building, but they didn't see Sam, Max and Dean. The three leant against the side of the house next to some bushes to hide themselves.

"Dude, sorority girls!" Dean said. "Think we'll see a naked pillow fight?"

"Girls don't have naked pillow fights. Pillow fights in short pyjama's possibly but not naked. All of your girl fantasies come from porn" Max chuckled "right, Sam?"

They turned around and saw Sam trying to climb onto the balcony of the house. Dean helped him up, then helped Max and then climbed up himself.

Once they're up there, they sneak in Lori's window.

Sam walked into the room and Max just got out of the window. Dean got stuck partly on the window and tripped, falling on top of Max by getting in the window.

"Oh, sorry!" He said

"Dean! You fucking idiot!" She shout-whispered

"Be quiet" Sam told them

"You be quiet!" Dean told him

"No, you be quiet!" Sam replied

"OH MY GOD! Shut up!" Max shout-whispered at them

-

Lori's walk-in closet.

Sam opened the door slightly and saw another sheriff leaving the bedroom. He waited until the sheriff went downstairs and then opened the closet door.

Once in Lori's bedroom, Sam, Max and Dean saw the writing on the wall.

" "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?" " Sam read aloud

"That's right out of the legend." Max said

"Yeah, that's classic Hook Man all right." Dean said. He tapped his nose. "It's definitely a spirit."

"Yeah, I've never smelled ozone this strong before." Sam said. Dean moved over to the window and Sam moved away after her

"Hey, come here."

Dean walked over to Sam. Sam pointed to the cross symbol beneath the writing. "Does that look familiar to you?" She asked

-

Outside - Impala

Dean, Max and Sam stood next to the car.

They were looking at a picture of the cross symbol that they found during their research.

"It's the same symbol." Sam said "Seems like it is the spirit of Jacob Karns."

"All right, let's find the dude's grave, salt and burn the bones, and put him down." Dean said

" "After execution, Jacob Karns was laid to rest in an Old North Cemetery. In an unmarked grave."" Max read aloud. She looked at her brothers, annoyed.

"Super." Dean said sarcastically

"Ok. So we know it's Jacob Karns. But we still don't know where he'll manifest next." Sam said

"Or why." Max told him

"I'll take a wild guess about why." Dean said "I think Sam's little friend Lori has something to do with this."

The three get in the car.

-

College party

Dean walked up to Sam

"Hey." Sam said

"Man, you've been holding out on me." Dean said "This college thing is awesome!" He winked and smiled at a passing girl. Dean looked behind the girl and chuckled at seeing Max making out with one of the collage girls

"This wasn't really my experience." Sam told him

"Let me guess." Dean said "Libraries, studying, straight A's?" Sam nodded "What a geek." He said as Max finally approached them

"Three words" she said, smirking "Experimental Collage Girls" she smirked and high fives Dean, Sam jut gave her a bitch face  "Alright, you do your homework?" She asked,

"Yeah." Sam said "It was bugging me, right? So how is the Hook Man tied up with Lori? So I think I came up with something." He unraveled a piece of paper.

"1932." Dean read "Clergyman arrested for murder."

"1967." Max said "Seminarian held in hippie rampage."

"There's a pattern here." Sam said "In both cases, the suspect was a man of religion who openly preached against immorality. And then found himself wanted for killings he claimed were the work of an invisible force. Killings carried out-get this-with a sharp instrument."

"What's the connection to Lori?" Dean asked

"A man of religion?" Max said, having already understood Sam's point "Who openly preaches against immorality?" Dean suddenly understood

"Except maybe this time, instead of saving the whole town, he's just trying to save his only daughter." Sam said

"Reverend Sorensen." Dean said "You think he's summoning the spirit?"

"Maybe." Sam said "Or, you know how a poltergeist can haunt a person instead of a place?"

"Yeah," Max said "the spirit latches onto the reverend's repressed emotions, feeds off them, yeah, okay."

"Without the reverend ever even knowing it." Sam said

"Either way, you should keep an eye on Lori tonight." Dean said.

"What?!" Max asked "how come he gets to-"

"Because she trusts him" Dean said. Sam nodded

"What about you two?" Max looked at an attractive blonde smiling at her by the pool table.

"We're gonna go see if we can find that unmarked grave." Dean said "right Ron?" Max wasn't paying attention to him "Max?" He repeated, slapping her arm gently

"Yeah totally" she said.

"Okay, we're leaving now" Dean said. Max looked at the blonde again, she shook her head in disappointment, and walked away.

-

Old North Cemetery - Night.

Dean and Max were looking around with flashlights. Max came across a headstone that is engraved with the cross symbol.

"Dean" she called. He ran over to her and nodded

"Here we go." He said

-

REV. SORENSEN's HORSE

Through the window, Sam can see Lori and her father arguing inside.

Old North Cemetery.

Dean has been digging at the unmarked grave for a while.)

"That's it." Max said, looking at her brother "Next time, I get to watch the cute girl's house."

"Shut up" Dean said. He broke through the wooden floor of the grave and sees Jacob Karns' remains. "Hello, preacher."

They threw their shovels aside

-

REV. SORENSEN's house.

Sam watched REV. SORENSEN turn out the light and leave the room. Lori came outside and sat down next to him on a bench.

"I saw you from upstairs." She said "What are you doing here?"

"I'm keeping an eye on the place" he said. Lori looked at him. "I was worried."

"About me?" She asked

"Yeah." Sam said "Sorry."

"No, it's cool." She said "I already called the cops." She smiled. Sam laughed "No, seriously. I think you're sweet. Which is probably why you should run away from me as fast as you can."

"Why would you say that?" Sam asked

"It's like I'm cursed or something." Lori said "People around me keep dying."

"I think I know how you feel." Sam replied

-

Old North Cemetery.

Dean took a few items out of his bag. He pours salt and lighter fluid on the preacher's bones.

Max then lit a match.

"Goodbye, preacher." She said. She threw the match into the grave and they both watched the bones burn into flames

-

REV. SORENSEN's house.

Lori was talking to Sam

"No one will talk to me anymore. Except you." Lot said "The sheriff thinks I'm a suspect. And you know what my dad will say? Pray. Have faith. What does he know about faith?"

"I heard you guys fighting before." Sam said

"He's seeing a woman." Lori said "A married woman. I just found out. She comes to our church with her husband. I know her kids. And he talks to me about religion? About morality? It's like, on one hand, you know, just do what you want and be happy. But he taught me, raised me to believe that if you do something wrong you will get punished. I just don't know what to think anymore." She hugged Sam. He was slightly confused, but he hugs her back. Lori pulls away from the hug and the two lean in, beginning to kiss. After a moment, Sam pulled away "Sam?" Lori asked

"Lori," San said "I can't."

"That someone you lost?" Lori asked, Sam just looked at her and she understood "I'm sorry." She said

Rev. Sorensen came outside.

"Lori?" He asked "Come inside, please."

"I'll come in when I'm ready." she said, annoyed

Suddenly, the Hook Man appears behind Rev. Sorensen and put his hook into his shoulder. The reverend screamed and the Hook Man slammed the door shut.

Sam grabbed his gun and ran into the house. He looked around and heard Rev. Sorensen screaming upstairs.

"No!" He screamed "No, please! No!"

Sam ran upstairs and saw the reverend's bedroom door shutting. He ran into the bedroom and saw the Hook Man on top of Rev. Sorensen, about to put his hook into the reverend. "No! No, no!" Sam shot the Hook Man in the side. The Hook Man turned to Sam, who shoots him again. The Hook Man turned to dust and the gun blast shattered the bedroom window.

"Dad!" Lori yelled as she ran up the stairs "Dad!" She burst through the bedroom window and knelt down next to her dad. "Okay." She said "It's ok, Dad, it's ok. It's ok."

Sam watched them

-

Local hospital.

Rev. Sorensen was in a hospital bed and Lori was standing by his side. Sam is talking to the sheriff.

"We were just talking." Sam said "Then Lori's dad came out. And then he appeared."

"A big man?" The sheriff asked "Carrying a weapon, some kind of hook?"

"Yes, sir." Sam replied

"Ever seen him before?" The sheriff asked

"No, sir." Sam replied

"Son, it seems every time I turn around, I'm seeing you." The sheriff said "I suggest you try to stay out of trouble" Sam nodded

"Yes, sir." He said

Dean, Max and two sheriffs were walking down the hall.

"No, it's alright," Max said " We're with him. He's our brother. He's my twin" she spotted him

"Hey! Brother!" Dean yelled. Sam and the sheriff turned to see Dean and Max. Dean smiled and waved

"Let him through." The sheriff said. The two sheriffs let Dean and Max through.

"Thanks" Dean saidHe and SAM walk towards each other.

"You ok?" Max asked

"Yeah." Sam replied

"What the hell happened?" Dean asked

"Hook Man." Sam replied

The one word made Max and Dean's expressions change

"You saw him?" Dean asked

"Damn right." Sam said "Why didn't you torch the bones?"

"What are you talking about, we did." Max said "You sure it's the spirit of Jacob Karns?"

"It sure as hell looked like him." Sam said "And that's not all. I don't think the spirit is latching on to the reverend."

"Well, yeah, the guy wouldn't send the Hook Man after himself." Dean said

"I think it's latching onto Lori." Sam said

"What?" Max asked

"Last night she found out her father is having an affair with a married woman." Sam said

"So what?" Dean asked

"So she's upset about it." Sam said "She's upset about the immorality of it. She told me she was raised to believe that if you do something wrong, you get punished."

"Ok, so she's conflicted." Max said "And the spirit of Preacher Karns is latching on to repress the emotions and maybe he's doing the punishing for her, huh?"

"Right." Sam said "Rich comes on too strong, Taylor tries to make her into a party girl, Dad has an affair."

"Remind me not to piss this girl off." Dean said

"But I burned those bones, I buried them in salt, why didn't that stop him?" Max asked

"You must have missed something." Sam told her

"No." Max said "I burned everything in that coffin, Dean was there"

"Did you get the hook?" Sam asked

"The hook?" Dean repeated

"Well, it was the murder weapon, and in a way, it was part of him." Sam said

"So, like the bones, the hook is a source of his power." Dean said

"So if we find the hook..." Max began

"We stop the Hook Man." The three said in unison

They smiled at each other.

-

Library

Sam, Max and Dean were looking through more papers.

"Here's something, I think." Dean said. Sam and Max looked at him "Log book, Iowa State Penitentiary." Dean began reading "Karns, Jacob. Personal affects: disposition thereof."

"Does it mention the hook?" Max asked

"Yeah, maybe." Dean continued to read "Upon execution, all earthly items shall be remanded to the prisoner's house of worship, St. Barnabas Church."

"Isn't that where Lori's father preaches?" Sam asked

"Yeah." Dean said

"Where Lori lives?" Max asked

"Maybe that's why the Hook Man has been haunting reverends and reverends' daughters for the past 200 years." Dean said

"Yeah, but if the hook were at the church or Lori's house, don't you think someone might've seen it?" Sam asked "I mean, a bloodstained, silver-handled hook?"

"Check the church records." Dean said

Library - later

They were still researching.

"St. Barnabas donations, 1862. Received silver-handled hook from state penitentiary. Reforged." Max sighed "They melted it down. Made it into something else."

St. Barnabas Church. Dean and Sam parked the car and got out.

"Alright," Dean said "we can't take any chances. Anything silver goes in the fire."

"I agree." Sam said

"Me too" Max smiled "So, Lori's still at the hospital. We'll have to break in.

"Alright, take your pick." Dean said

"I'll take the house." Max said

"I'll go with Max" Sam said

"Ok" Dean said. Sam and Max began walking towards the house. "Hey." Dean called, pointing at both of them. Sam turned around. "Stay out of her underwear drawer." Sam rolled his eyes and walked away

"No promises!" Max joked as she ran after Sam

-

St. Barnabas Church

Basement

Dean was throwing everything silver into the fire. Sam and Max came downstairs with a bags of things from Lori's house each.

"We got everything that even looked silver." Sam said

"Better safe than sorry." Max told them. They threw everything into the fire. Suddenly, they hear footsteps above them.

"Move, move." Dean said. He took his gun and went upstairs with Max and

-

St. Barnabas Church

Upstairs

Dean and Sam saw that Lori was sitting in a pew alone, crying. Dean lowered his gun. Max went downstairs, followed by Dean. Sam walked over to Lori

"Lori?" Sam asked

She looked back at him

"What are you doing here?" She asked

"What is it?" He asked, approaching her

"I've been trying to understand what's been happening." She said "Why? Now I know so I'm praying for forgiveness."

"Forgiveness for what?" Sam asked

"Don't you see?" Lori said "I'm to blame for all this. I've read in the Bible about avenging angels."

"Trust me, this guy-he's no angel." Sam said

"I was so angry at my father." Lori said "Part of me wanted him punished. And then he came and he punished him."

"It's not your fault." Sam said

"Yes, it is." Lori said "I don't know how, but it is."

In the back of the church, the Hook Man appeared for a moment then disappeared quickly. "I killed Rich." Lori said "Taylor, too. I nearly killed my father."

"Lori..." Sam trailed off

"I can see it now." She said "They didn't deserve to be punished. I do."

They heard a noise come from the front of the church. The candles at the altar blew out.

"Come on." Sam said worriedly "We gotta go." He lead her away and opened the door to the basement. But the Hook Man was behind it and pushed his hook through the door. "Go!" He yelled. Sam and Lori ran down the aisle and into a back room. The Hook Man followed them and smashed the glass of another door with his hook. He swung at Sam a few times but missed. The Hook Man chased the two of them around the room and finally hooks Sam in the shoulder. He screamed in pain and an invisible force drags Lori on her back across the floor. Sam ran over to her. "Come on." He said "You okay?"

The Hook Man appeared and knocked Sam backwards into a wall. He got up and manoeuvred behind the Hook Man, who was standing over LORI. Max suddenly enters with her gun raised.

"Sam, drop!" She yelled

Sam crouched down and Max shot the Hook Man once. He disappeared into dust just as Dean came running in

"I thought we got all the silver." Dean said

"So did I." Max told them

"Then why is he still here?" Sam asked

"Well, maybe we missed something!" Max yelled.

They looked around. Sam noticed a cross necklace that Lori was wearing.

"Lori, where did you get that chain?" He asked

"My father gave it to me." She said

"Where'd your dad get it?" Dean asked

"He said it was a church heirloom," Lori said "he gave it to me when I started school."

"Is it silver?!" Sam asked, panicked

"Yes!" Lori replied. Sam ripped the chain off from around her neck.

In the hallway, the Hook Man, who was now invisible, was making a long scratch on the wall. Dean and Max turned around to look at it.

"Sam!" Max yelled. She threw Sam the rifle and the rock salt and Sam tossed Max the necklace.

Dean and Max ran back downstairs. Sam aimed the gun at the scratch that is being made and shot. He quickly reloaded the gun with rock salt.

-

Basement

Max ran downstairs and threw LORI's necklace into the fire. Dean ran down after her

"Did you do it?!" He asked

"Yes!" Max replied

-

Upstairs

Sam was still loading the gun with his injured hand and shoulder. The Hook Man appeared and knocked the rifle out of Sam's hand. Sam and Lori crawled into the corner and watched the Hook Man tower over them.

-

Basement

Dean and Max watched the fire, the cross pendant broke off the chain and melted

-

Upstairs

The Hook Man stopped with his hook in the air. The hook melted and the rest of his body burned into nothing. Max and Dean ran upstairs to make sure the Hook Man was gone. Dean walked over to Sam and Lori and gave them a knowing look.

-

St. Barnabus Church.

Sheriffs were walking around and there was an ambulance parked outside.

"And you saw him, too?" The sheriff asked "The man with the hook?"

"Yes, I told you," Dean said "we all saw him."

"We fought him off and then he ran." Max said

"And that's all?" The sheriff asked

"Yes, sir" Max told him

"Yeah, that's all." Dean said at the same time. Dean began walking away, as did Max. The sheriff called after Max

"Listen. You and your brothers-"

"Oh, don't worry," Max said "we're leaving town"

She walks over to the car.

-

The ambulance

Lori watched Sam finish getting bandaged up.

"You gonna be okay?" She asked

"Yeah." Sam said

Back at the car, Dean as Max were watching Sam and Lori through the side view mirror.

"I still don't know what happened." Lori said "But I do know you saved my life. My father's, too. Thank you."

Sam nodded and smiles. Dean watched through the mirror and noticed Sam just walk away without another word. Sam walked to the car and got in

"You okay, buddy?" Max asked, leaning forward

"I'm fine" Sam said, putting on a fake smile

"We could stay." Dean said. Sam shook his head.

Dean watched Lori looking sad, through the mirror. He shook his head in disappointment and drove away.
