My neighborhood was silent. The sun was on it's way up and the sky was a brilliant pink. I used to sit on the porch with my mom watching the sun come up when both of us couldn't sleep. It was always beautiful.
I looked at my feet and suddenly remembered my phone. I grabbed it out of my pocket and saw that I had 100 messages. I was really surprised to find that people wanted to talk to me. I looked at the messages and most of them were Jay, Aimee,Gabby Meyers (this girl who I was half friends with), and some people who were sorry for my loss. Jay and I never really officially broke up, I just stopped talking to him. His text messages consisted of love yous, miss yous, talk to me, and i'm sorrys.
I put my phone in my pocket and started to walk down the sidewalk. I saw Jay's house 1 mile later and I started to walk slower. Then I heard talking. I stopped in my tracks and hid behind Jay's car.
"Dad please listen to me." I heard Jay's familiar sweet voice.
"Jay, she is gone." Then I heard his jerk of a dad.
"dad, she--" The guy won't even let his son speak.
"Jay, she won't even remember you." His dad spat and walked away. I heard Jay sit down on the grass and sigh. I don't know how but I got the courage to walk over and plop down right next to him.
"What the-- It's you!" He started to tear up and then he grabbed me and kissed me.
On instict I slapped him right across the face. " What was that for? " he laughed and touched his cheek wear I hit him.
"I ugh...sorry." I sounded like I was in 2nd grade talking to my very first crush.
"It's fine, I probably deserved that." he smiled his goofy smile and I couldn't help but smile too.
"So how are you? " He looked straight at me and I felt myself turn a little red.
"Still here." I felt a tear roll down my cheek and I quickly wiped it off.
"I really missed you Mar." He put his arm around me and I felt whole again.
"Yeah but I'm not the same person I was 3 months ago." My voice cracked on the 3 months ago.
"Yeah I know." he laughed a little. Man, I hadn't realized how much I missed talking to him. I heard his dad yell at his mom and I shrieked when I heard a loud bang.
" t's okay, they do it all the time." I put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. Wow. I missed him so much.
"I better go inside and check on them." he gestured to the house and looked at his feet.
"I will see you soon. " I smiled and put my hand on his shoulder. "Are you coming back to school?
" He sounded hopeful, but truth was I hadn't even thought about it for one second. " I don't know."
"Oh okay." He looked disappointed.
"Will you text me?" I hadn't texted in forever. Not normal for a teenage girl.
"Of course." I smiled and lightly kissed him on the cheek. He hugged me tightly and said bye. That's when I knew it was my cue to leave.
I walked down the sidewalk and all the way to the end of the neighborhood. I was hungry. I hadn't felt hungry for 3 days. I found a taxi and rode to NYC. We live 25 minutes out of the city and I used to love it because I used to shop 24\7 with my friends. Not now. I found myself in the bad part. Even early in the morning people got up and watched the sun come up. Jay loved too so he was always an earlybird. I found a little cafe called "The Sunny Side Up " I walked in and heard a little bell ding.
"Hello darlin." She had a huge New Jersey accent.
"Hi." I smiled.
"What would you like today?" She smiled and I saw that she had cheap pink lipstick on and a smudge on her crooked yellow teeth in the front.
"I'll.....have some water and hashbrowns and toast." She looked at me like I was the weirdest person on the face of the earth.
"I'll get that...right up." She said walking away.
A little while later my food my was in front of me.
"Thank you." I smiled and she smiled and nodded then walked away.
I walked down the sidewalk and people were all around me. I looked around at my surroundings and saw tall buildings and skyscrapers. I eventually got tired and found my way home.
I walked in and threw my sweatshirt on the kitchen table. I sat down on the couch and turned the tv on. It was on the news so I decided to watch it. The news casters talked about politics and boring stuff. I knew it all anyway. I shut the tv off and looked at my phone. 3 new text messages:
Hey Mar
U said u would text me Mar
I love u
I smiled and thought to myself: I love you too Jay.
