Rose's POV

"Mum!" My voice rang around the house as I made my way down the stairs of the Burrow. "Do you happen to have ..."

Hermione was sitting at the dining table facing me, flipping anxiously through a couple of newspapers.

"Have what, dear?" She said in a distracted tone.

"Well, just something nice I guess. I'm ... going out."

I expected her to pause and give me suspicious look but my surprise she didn't answer.  Her brows suddenly creased as she picked up one newspaper and tore it off from the rest before taking her wand and organizing it into a pile next to her.

What is she so frustrated about?

"... Mum?" I asked softly. "Are you okay?"

At my voice her head snapped up, as if just realizing I was there.

"Hm? Oh yes, of course," she said but her worried tone gave her away. "Busy as usual ..."

I frowned as I made my way around the table, sliding into the seat next to her, "Mum, you know you're a terrible liar.  Don't worry, you can tell me."

At my words, she turned and gave me a weak smile, "Rose, I'm okay.  It's just work stress, alright?" She picked up a lock of hair and curled it behind my ear. "Don't worry about it."

"Worrying isn't something you can exactly control," I said, picking up one of the newspapers on the table.

It took me a moment to realize it wasn't the Daily Prophet, but a day old muggle newspaper.

"'The London Times'," I said, surprise clear in my voice. "Huh.  I didn't realize you still read muggle news."

"Read the first page," Hermione said hoarsely.

There was something in her voice that sent a spurt of dread through me.  Not knowing if I really wanted to, I carefully flipped the page and instantly froze.

On the center of the page was a blurry photo of two cloaked figures frozen in movement, silver masks glinting off the side of their faces.

Death eaters.

Horror swept me as I stared at the picture. They attacked muggles! I realized, before my gaze fell on the heading.

Terrorist Attack On Privet Drive In Little Whinging By Mysterious Cloaked Figures

"Terrorist attack? They think this was a terrorist attack?!" I exclaimed angrily.

Looking down I realized each newspaper in front of me had a different headline but the same situation.

'Terrorists Engage On London Privet Drive', 'Privet Drive Wiped Out By Mysterious Terrorist Attack' ... Why are all of them terrorist attacks?

"The whole street got wiped out," Hermione said in a tired voice, resting her chin in her palm. "Just that street."

"But that's — that's horrible," I said softly in a disbelieving tone, scoffing. "Even death eaters should know that's a line you don't cross."

There was a long moment of silence.

"What are you going to do?" I asked Hermione.

The words that came out of her mouth surprised me more than I thought they would.

"I don't know," she whispered. "I — I don't know what to do. I've already done everything I can, there are search parties everywhere — and the people aren't being very grateful about it trying to sue the Ministry ..." her tone grew bitter.

"Do you need any help?" I asked, though I knew the answer before I did.

At my words she turned and her eyes softened, "Rose, Rose," she hummed, brushing my hair lightly. "I don't want you worrying about my problems, okay sweetie? Your still young. You should be living life, exploring the city, spending time with Scorpius ..."

At her last words she gave me a little nudge causing my face to blaze bright red.

"Mum," I groaned.

She laughed, "Okay, okay.  You go have fun," she said, pushing me lightly before I slid off my seat.

Frowning, I turned to go when I remembered the reason I came down. Instantly I whirled back around.

"Muuum?" I started slowly, twisting my hands together. "Do you happen to have anything green?"

Scorpius's POV

I leaned against the wall, feeling the cold brush of wind as I stared through the open glass door of Westfield Mall.

2 more minutes.

I watched silently as another stream of muggle teenagers glided through the door.  A few of the girls turned to give me interested looks but I ignored them, tugging at the collar of my dark hoodie and carefully rolling up the sleeves.

I was about to turn and go wait for Rose inside the Mall when a pair of hands slipped over my face.

     I smiled.

     "Rose," I said immediately.

I heard Rose huff behind me, "I didn't even say anything yet." She said, her hands still over my eyes.

"I know," I said, then still without being able to see anything I reached out behind me and scooped Rose up onto my back.

She let out a shriek as her hands left my eyes, brightening my vision once more.

"Scorpius!" She laughed, clutching onto my shirt for dear life.

"What?" I asked, smirking as I adjusted her on my back. "Hey, this is a one time offer.  Not everyone gets a chance to ride on Scorpius Malfoy's back."

     "I'm honored," she said sarcastically.

"Good.  Because you're not getting down anytime soon."

Before she could protest I whirled around and started walking across the room, feeling the warmth of the Mall heaters press against my skin.

She yelped in surprise.

"Scorpius," she hissed, leaning close to my ear. "People are watching ..."

"So?"

She sighed, causing a smirk to draw my mouth.

We continued to walk through the Mall in comfortable silence, ignoring the strange looks people gave us.

It was really a miracle how many muggles you could catch in a single Mall.  Don't these people have anywhere else to be?

After a few minutes Rose spoke.

"Scorpius, where are we going?"

"Somewhere."

"Is it a good somewhere or a bad somewhere?"

"Good for me, bad for you."

"... wait a second.  What?" she snapped and I could practically hear the frown in her voice.

     I laughed, "Just kidding."

She relaxed as we passed the glinting neon headings of a makeup shop.

     "Maybe," I muttered.

     "Scorpius Malfoy, you're an idiot!"

     "
     There was a pause.

"What does that mean?" She asked flatly.

"Come on, I thought you were smarter than that."

"But — but that's not even a word!" She exclaimed, exasperated.

     "Of course it's a word."

"No, it's not.  You just made it up," she said in a know-it-all tone.

"Well then, you'd better buy a copy of The Malfoy Dictionary For Wonderful Words," I said, smirking as I turned to round a corner. "I heard they have some of the very best."

     "Or worst," she added.

     "That's a matter of opinion."

We laughed, causing an old woman with a stuffed poodle hanging out of her bag to stare at us.

"Okay, Scorpius," Rose whispered exaggeratedly into my ear. "You can put me down now."

"But we're not there yet," Scorpius whispered with the same amount of exaggeration.

     "Aren't you tired?"

"No," I lied.  Truth was my legs were aching to sit down and my arms hurt from holding her. "I mean, of course I'm tired.  I'm carrying YOU!"

"What's that supposed to mean?" She snapped.

I chuckled, "I'm kidding, Rose," I said, before stopping next to a glass balcony aligning the hole in the center of the Mall.

Grabbing hold of my shoulders she slowly slid from my back as I released her.

     "So, how much farther?"

I smirked.

"Let's just say the place we're going to is quite ice-olated."

That was literally the dumbest joke ever.
SO can anyone guess where he's taking her from that weird pun-I-just-made-up-off-the-top-of-my-head??
