To say I was terrified when Bart left would be an understatement. I pleaded to go instead, being the eldest but knew far too well that he would never allow me to leave - to make sure that everything was the way it should be.

Yet months passed, and it seemed like nothing had changed other than Nathaniel's scars - it now felt almost alien to be looking at him without them along with being in now normal clothing that had been easily dirtied over the months.

"What makes you think you can do any better?" Nathaniel asked as I worked on the new time machine.

I let out a grunt, tightening one of the bolts. "Because I have to," I muttered, grabbing the last bolt and slotting it into place before tightening it.

"But you won't come back," he continued, clenching his hands into fists.

"To be honest Nathaniel," I sighed, leaning back on my hands and scanning over the broken remains of the city, "there really isn't much to come back to."

As I stepped into the time machine, changing into my costume before hand, I took a single glance at Nathaniel. "If this doesn't work. . . I'm sorry, Nathaniel."

"Me too, (Y/N). Good luck and help save the future."

The door shut with a loud metal clank, sending slight shivers down my spine.

"It's okay," I whispered to myself, repeating it quietly as I tugged on the belt, crossing it over my chest and holding onto the bars next to the seat. Sucking in a deep breath, I blew it out gradually. "Let's do this," I muttered, shutting my eyes tightly before flicking the switch and being enveloped by bright white electricity.

As I opened my eyes, my first thought was that it hadn't worked, or perhaps that maybe I had been sent to the wrong year, or possibly even into the further future. Then when I opened the door, I knew I was in the right place as I came face to face with a large red 's'.

"Woah, woah, woah," I said quickly as Conner grabbed the collar of my costume, yanking me closer.

"Who are you?" He growled, eyes narrowing. My eyes glanced behind him to see a large white wolf, glaring and also growling.

"I-I'm from the future! Bart's sister!"

"He never mentioned anything about having a sister," Conner continued, still not believing my story.

"He what?!" I asked with wide eyes, before looking around the room and glaring. "That little shit. I knew I should've been the one who-"

"(Y/N)?!" Bart's voice echoed behind Conner. "Is that you?"

"Uh, duh," I said, still trying to get out of Conner's grip. "Now can you tell Conner to let go of me? The suit stretches easily."

Without another word, Conner let me go.

"What are you doing here? You should be back there - with Nathaniel."

A large weight sunk in my chest as I looked at Bart.

"I-It didn't work."

"What do you mean it didn't-"

"The mode didn't crash, Bart. Everything stayed the same except Nathaniel." Bart's face saddened at my words. "So that's why I came - to help you. And hopefully, create a future worth looking forward to."

"Crash," Bart said with a small smile. "It really is. I missed you, (Y/N)."

You smiled back before glaring at him, smacking his arm quickly.

"Ow! What was that-"

"For not saying you had an older sister, you dumbass!"

"Who has an older sister?" Nightwing asked as he and a few other members of the team entered. The rest must've been back home. I began to wonder time it was.

"(Y/N)," I greeted as I shook his hand. "Bart's older sister," I said.

"Huh," Nightwing said with a small laugh, "didn't think anyone in your family had any manners."

* * *

"Does he know?" I asked Bart as he continued to give me a tour of the cave.

"Who know's what?"

"Blue Beetle," I said, eyes narrowing. "Does he-"

"He know's, (Y/N). And if what you said about the future is true - I'm definitely going to need your help."

As if on queue, the zeta-tube had signaled Blue Beetle's arrival. I speed after Bart, following him into the large hall, halting to a stop in shock, as Blue Beetle's armor slowly disappeared to reveal a teenage boy who couldn't have been any older than myself.

"Amigo!" Bart greeted, slinging his arm around the boys' shoulder. "I'd like to introduce you to my sister-"

"Hold up," the boy interrupted, "you have a sister? And you didn't tell anyone?"

"Uh," Bart chuckled awkwardly, "it, uh, kinda slipped my mind?"

I growled at Bart, stepping over to him furiously. "Listen here you little-"

"Jaime Reyes," the boy said, stepping in to stop me from charging at Bart. I eyed the hand he had stuck out for me to take, slightly unsure. But when I finally took it, shaking it as I stared at him, I knew that he wasn't gone yet.

"(Y/N)," I said.

"So, what made you come to the past?" Jaime asked, shoving a hand into the pocket of his jersey.

I glanced at Bart before looking back at Jaime. I forced a smile that seemed enough to pass. "To help you, Jaime Reyes. Plus, three heads are better than two." Jaime's smile grew slightly. "But if you do turn bad - I will not hesitate to take you apart."

* * *

I had grown wary of Jaime's actions with each mission I had joined the team on, eventually feeling myself become more relaxed around him. It was mostly when he had saved you on one mission that made him gain your trust.

"Hey," I greeted him when he entered through the zeta-tube. When he didn't reply, I knew something was wrong. "What's up."

"Nothing, it's just," he muttered before sighing. "I have a maths test tomorrow and I haven't studied at all. So when I looked at the material, my mind went completely blank."

I raised a brow. "Couldn't you just get the scarab to give you the answers?"

"Yeah, but, it only gives the answers. It doesn't tell me how which is what the whole paper depends on."

"I could help," I said quickly, "I mean, I'm no expert, but I'm sure it's the same as what it is in the future, right?"

Jaime let out a small chuckle as he nodded his head, grinning directly at me. "Sure," he said, walking over and joining me on the couch, opening his bag and taking out his books.

"And what are you two up to?" Arsenal said with a smirk, walking over and leaning his elbows on the couch.

"Study session," I said, flicking through the pages in his textbook.

"Sure," Arsenal said slyly, causing a small red hue to appear on my cheeks. "A 'study' session."

When neither Jaime or myself replied, Arsenal let out a scoff, muttering 'whatever' under his breath and walking away.

Arsenal and I never really got on the best of terms. It was probably because we both tried to annoy each other every day as well as the fact we never really talked to each other than those moments. I shrugged away the itching feeling in my chest, telling myself that I was just mad at him.

* * *

I decided to waste the day away with training, attempting to focus on my strength rather than speed, because I already had enough of that as it was.

"Not hanging out with your bug friend I see," Arsenal said with a smirk as he entered the gym.

I spared a glance at him before going back to what I was doing. "Went home," I grunted, letting go of the pull-up bar and dropping to the floor. I held a hand on my hip. "Why are you asking?"

"Nothing, nothing," Arsenal hummed, still grinning. "Just weird to see you without your boyfriend."

I knew that it was his tactic to get to me, and a part of me let him. "He's not my boyfriend."

"But you want him to be," Arsenal replied.

I ignored the way I could feel my face redden. "Yeah, well, why do you care? Starting to get feelings other than anger and self-pity?"

Arsenal's smirk quickly vanished, replaced with a glare. It was my own turn to grin as he turned around and walked out of the gym, muttering under his breath. Growling, I quickly chased after him.

"Hey!" I said, only just managing to stop myself from bumping into him. "Why are you so mad?"

"I'm not-"

"Um, yes you are," I said. "Every time I'm hanging out with Jaime you look like you want to use me as target practice," I continued, motioning to his robotic arm. "Is it something I-"

"It's nothing," Arsenal said quickly, eyes narrowing.

I took a small step back at how angry he looked. "Roy, what's-" I was cut off by Nightwing's voice, ordering everyone to head to the main hall. I tried to ignore the way Arsenal simply pushed past me.

* * *

"Aw, man," I whined as I wasn't put onto the same team as Jaime and Bart.

"Don't worry," Bart said as he pressed a hand onto my shoulder. "You'll be with us older kids soon enough," he continued, snickering.

I glared at him, crossing my arms over my chest. "Don't make me hurt you - I am faster than you."

"Uh, no you're not," Bart claimed.

"Uh, yes I am," I mimicked. The small banter continued until Nightwing spoke up again, glaring between the two of us.

"(Y/N) - you're with Arsenal."

"What?" "Excuse me?"

I looked over at Arsenal, who looked just as displeased as I was. He opened his mouth to complain but I beat him to it.

"No offense Nightwing, but I'd rather go alone than be paired with Hitman-wannabe."

"Do you even know what that game is?" Jaime asked. I ignored it.

"Fine," Arsenal said, causing everyone to look at him. "I'll go with (Y/N). Let's just get this over with." I wondered if my words had hurt him; I wondered why I cared.

"Good," Nightwing said, before continuing to explain the mission.

* * *

I couldn't help but think about Arsenal's bitter attitude towards me, nibbling on my bottom lip as I walked to the bio-ship.

"What's up with you?" Jaime asked, bumping his shoulder with my own.

I glanced up at him, smiling. "Nothing - it's nothing."

"Yes, there is. You always bite your lip when you're thinking." I wondered about how long I had been in the past - if the future had in fact changed into one that we hoped for.

"Just- I was thinking about the future. If it's the way it should be," I said, not completely lying but not telling the entire truth.

Resting a hand on my shoulder, Jaime smiled. "I'm sure it will be." When he let go, I realized then that his touch no longer lingered like it used to.

* * *

Waiting on the roof of the warehouse for Nightwing's call, your mind was still clouded. Peeking through the window, you saw shadows moving and almost made your attack. However, Arsenal kept you back, gripping your arm tightly.

"Not yet," he muttered before letting go of your arm. The feeling of his hand lingered unlike Jaime's earlier. I couldn't stop focusing on it even when Nightwing had given us the order to move in, only jumping down when Arsenal had broken the glass.

"Another speedster?!" One of the men shouted. I grinned slightly, taking him down without hesitation.

Suddenly a bullet whizzed past my head, hitting straight into another man. I looked to where it had come from, relieved that it was only Arsenal.

"Trying to get yourself killed?" He growled. I didn't respond, instead, getting back up and trying to focus once more. Letting out a breath, I looked at the men who were coming towards us, aiming their guns. Kicking off, I took them all down in an instant, throwing their guns to the other side of the warehouse. I ran the rest of the perimeter before going back to Arsenal, a wide grin on my face.

"That better?" I asked.

A smile had crept onto Arsenal's face, a small laugh escaping. It may have been that smile that slowed me down when I saw the red dot aimed at his stomach. I looked to where it was coming from. "Sniper," I mumbled, realizing there wasn't enough time for me to get to him when he pulled the trigger. What seemed almost instinct, I stepped in front of Arsenal, crying out when the bullet hit my side.

Arsenal was also quick to react, firing back and taking down the sniper. His attention went back to me, holding me steady as I continued to curse in pain.

"Is everything okay at your end?" I heard Nightwing speak into the comms.

"No," Arsenal responded, "(Y/N)'s been shot and in need of immediate medical assistance."

I let out a small laugh, grunting at the small shakes of pain that rattled me as I did so. "'Medical assistance'? Those are some big-kid words there, Roy." Wrapping an arm around his shoulders, you began hobbling to the exit, Arsenal's arm wrapped around you tightly, careful of the wound.

"We should wait for the others," Arsenal said.

"It's just a scratch," I said, grunting once more. "I'll heal faster than you think." My words failed me as my legs fumbled, thankful for Arsenal to catch me.

"Healing factor my ass," Arsenal mumbled, blood thickening between my fingers.

* * *

The ride back to the cave and into infirmary was worse than getting shot, and with the bullet still stuck in my side, my healing factor, was in fact, failing me.

"(Y/N)!" Bart cried, immediately rushing over to me when I got off the bio-ship. I could see his eyes slowly beginning to tear up.

"I'm fine," I said, attempting to smile despite the pain. I needed to look stronger - especially for Bart.

Arsenal helped me hobble the rest of the way, eventually carrying me again and putting me on the bed.

"We need to take the bullet out," Nightwing said, going into a nearby set of draws and pulling out tweezers, alcohol, and bandages. I whined slightly, already imagining how much this was going to hurt.

"Okay, okay," I said, clenching my eyes shut and opening them again, staring over at Arsenal who was biting his thumbnail nervously. I held out my hand for him to take, mostly for me to hold something for the pain, and the other to help comfort him.

When he did take my hand, Nightwing leaned over the wound, holding the tweezers in place. "I just have one last question," he said, glancing at me. "What's your favorite color?"

I stared in confusion. "I don't see what that has-" I was cut off by my own scream, muffling it with my other hand. Once the bullet was removed, Nightwind spread the alcohol over the wound, making me squirm slightly. I squeezed Arsenal's hand, who automatically squeezed back.

Applying the bandage, Nightwind ordered me to stay in the infirmary until the pain subsided. However, as soon as he left the room, I sat up on the bed a little too quickly as pain shot up my side.

"Hey, hey," Arsenal said, attempting to lay me back down. "You need to rest."

"I'm fine," I said with a groan, standing up off the bed.

"Oh, my God, (Y/N), just listen to me," Arsenal ordered. I bit my tongue to keep myself from barking. "You need to rest - you could've died out there!"

I rolled my eyes. "But I didn't, Arsenal," I sighed. "As much as you probably wanted me to," I mumbled.

Arsenal growled and slammed his human hand on the wall. "Why the hell would you say that? Are you kidding me- Jesus Christ, are you serious? I love you, okay! And there's no way I could've forgiven myself if I let you die out there!"

The room fell silent very quickly from Arsenal's words.

"You- wait, what?" I asked, feeling my face beginning to heat up. Arsenal's face also went red in realization.

"I- well," he sighed. "Yeah. I do. But I know that you're too in love with bug-boy to ever notice, so, just forget I ever said anything. Let's just go back to hating each other."

"Roy, wait!" But he had already left.

Going against Nightwing's orders, I got off the bed, ignoring the pain and following after Arsenal. Deciding to go at a normal speed to keep the wound from potentially opening itself, I called out to Arsenal, drawing his attention.

"Get back in the bed. You shouldn't-"

I cut him off by slamming my lips onto his own, bringing a hand to the back of his neck to pull him closer. He was hesitant at first, resting his hands on waist, wary of my wound. I shivered at the feeling of his metal hand, eventually comforted my the coldness of it. Pulling away, I brought my hands to his shoulders, smiling nervously at him.

"I don't like him. I like you," I admitted, biting the inside of my cheek nervously. Arsenal grinned brightly, pulling me closer once again and stealing another kiss.

"Shouldn't you be in that bed?" Arsenal asked when he pulled away.

"Maybe."

"Go back."

I hummed slightly. "Only if you come with me."

"No- wait, yes. Yes, of course- definitely. God damn."
