Lucas: Can I tell Riley yet?
Maya: No. And why are you texting me we are in the same car?
Lucas: I don't want my parents to hear.
Maya: Why's that?
Lucas: Because they will put themselves in the conversation. They always do.
Maya: Ok fine. How long does it take to get where we need to go?
Lucas: No idea. Not too long though.
Maya: Okay.
Lucas: It really is beautiful outside.
Maya: Yeah. :)
Lucas: I can't stop smiling when I see it.
Maya: Me either.
Lucas: Oh hey I see the stadium!
Maya: Yay!

"That was a great game!" Lucas says as we approach the car.
"Yes it was. I'm so glad the Cowboys won!"
"Me too. They are representing Texas pretty well this year."
"Mhm."
"What time is it?" I ask.
"11:52," he says
"Oh cool. I'm really tired."
"You can sleep on the way home. It's only a half hour drive but the traffic will most definitely be backed up."
"Cool."
We get into the car and say a couple things to his parents before they pull out.
Lucas: If you wanna lay down you can.
Maya: Where?
Lucas: On this pillow.
I look over at him and see a pillow placed on his lap. I take off my seatbelt and rest my head on the pillow. He strangely starts playing with my hair, but I like it. It's quite comforting.
"Maya," Lucas whispers into my ear.
"Yes?"
"I have to tell her."
"Why?"
"I don't want to let it keep going on because the longer it goes the harder it hurts."
"At least wait until after the movie."
"Why?"
"I already told you why now shh," I say then turn my head back away from him.
It is weird how you can love people different ways. Sometimes you love your friends more though and have to sacrifice things for them. I would be willing to lose him to keep Riley. It would be perfect if I could have both, but I would choose Riley if I had to choose.
I don't want anything to happen the rest of the ride. I just want to lay here. I don't want him to cheat even though part of me does. I don't want to be selfish so I just want him to treat me like a best friend. That's all I can ask for while still keeping him.
My phone buzzes, except this time it isn't Lucas.
Zay: Hey Maya how did the game go.
Maya: Great. We are on our way home now.
Zay: Oh cool. I bet your tired lol.
Maya: A little bit.
Zay: Riley was worried about you guys because neither of you messaged her.
Maya: Whoops. I guess we forgot lol.
Zay: Nothing happened did it?
Maya: What?
Zay: Sorry Riley stole my phone. You should probably text her. She is sending a message now.
Maya: Ok thanks. :) Cya later.
Riley: PEACHES.
Maya: Lol. Hey.
Riley: How was it.
Maya: Great.
Riley: So nothing happened that I should worry about.
Well Riley, you see...
Maya: Nope. Everything is fine. He likes you.
I'm technically not lying because that is what he said.
Riley: Does he like like me or just 'like' me.
Maya: You will have to ask him that.
Riley: Ok I will. Group chat.
Maya: Why?
Riley: Because you know you wanna see. You are with him so you probably would look anyways.
Maya: Lol fine.
"Riley has added Lucas to the chat."
Lucas: Hey.
Riley: Hi.
Maya: LOL YOU GUYS ARE SO LAME.
Riley: Shh.
Maya: I speak the truth.
Lucas: No you don't.
Maya: Watch it! I could punch you anytime I want.
Lucas: How adorable.
Riley: Excuse me?
Lucas: What?
Riley: ARE YOU SAYING SHE ISN'T STRONG? DON'T YOU DARE CALL HER PUNCHING YOU ADORABLE. PUNCH HIM AND SHOW HIM IT ISN'T ADORABLE MAYA.
Lucas: Calm down.
Riley: Don't tell me what to do.
Maya: Should I leave or?
Riley: No stay.
Maya: Okay.
Lucas: Sorry Riley, I was just joking with her.
Riley: Okay just don't do it again.
"It's okay, I don't care," I say whispering to him.
"Tell her that," he says.
Lucas: So is anything important going to happen or what?
Riley: Lucas. Do you just want to be friends?
Actually he does. Let's see how this goes.
Lucas: Riley...
Riley: I'm serious. Because sometimes it seems like that is all we should be.
Riley: Sometimes.
Lucas: Are you sure?
Riley: Look, I really like you. But maybe it would be better if we just stayed friends so I can keep you. What if something bad happened and we broke up and never talked again? I don't want that to happen, and it happens to people all the time. They end on bad terms and end up losing someone they care about.
Riley: It's entirely up to you though. If you think we will be okay I do too.
Lucas: No it's your decision.
Riley: Why?
Lucas: Because you don't need anyone to make decisions for you. I will be okay with whatever you choose. You let me choose before, now its your turn.
