If we, the human race,
Could translate the wolf's call,
What would be said?
Would we hear at all?
"My pack, driven out,
By a shot and a shout!"
"Many pups lost,
To save a human cost."
"The trees, they burn mercilessly,
Tell me, human,
Do you feel sympathy?"
"We're starve, our pack.
We've nothing to hunt!"
"The pups will not survive,
Their mother pronounced dead,
By half an ounce of lead."
Could we care?
I, for one, can.
I join their songs, lighting the stars
With picturesque melodies.
I can hear the suffering call,
The choked call of the wolf.
Driven ill by humans.
Driven out by humans.
Driven hungry by humans.
Driven extinct by humans?
The last statement need not be true.
