"Hey Layla." I said into my phone, but the voice that comes back wasn't Layla's at all.
"Jessica...." Zack's voice broke. Was her crying. I stood up from the couch and Pattie stood to not knowing what was going on. Zack crying is never good, he is a football player, i never thought i'd hear him crying.
"Zack? What happened? What's wrong?" i asked in a panic.
"It's Layla.....We got in a car accident....and..." he couldn't even finish his sentence. My heart dropped, Layla was in an accident? Was she alright?
"Zack, what hospital is she at?" I said freaking out.
"North View," He says softly.
"I'll be right there," I say hanging up. I quickly grab my jacket.
"Jessica what happened?" Pattie says following me around the house. I run down the stairs and almost run into Justin. He smiled but then stops when he see's that i am holding back tears.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He says setting the milk down.
"Layla's in the hospital. We have to go right now," I say. He grabs my hand and then his keys and we leave right away.
we arrive at the hospital within fifteen minutes. We rush into the entrence and i go to the front desk.
"How may i help you two today?" the lady says in a soft welcoming tone.
"What room is Layla Stevenson in?" i say trying to stay calm. The lady whose name tag read 'Sue' took her time on the computer looking it up. Justin was holding onto my hand, which helped calm me a little. I ignored the butterflies it was giving mebecause i needed to focus on my best friend right now.
"OH yes, she arrived about half an hour ago and is resting.... She has some people up in a private room waiting...Just take the stairs to the second floor and the room number is 347," she says with a smile. I quickly thank her and Justin and i book it up to the second floor. I find the room number and we walk in. Layla's parents were sitting ont he couch, Layla's mom was in tears and her father was trying to comfort her. I then noticed Zack was standing by the window looking outside. Justin went straight to Zack while i walked over to the Stevenson family.
"Oh Jessica," Mrs. Stevenson said getting up and hugging me. I was stil in a little pain but i didn't care right now, i hugged her back. Then her dad joined the hug.
"Zack man what happened?" I heard Justin ask. Zack didn't look away from the window though. I see that his arm is all cut up from what i assume to be pieces of the glass, and he had a bruise on his face and a cut as well.
"How is she?" i whisper to Mr.Stevenson since his wife was now back on the couch crying again. He sigh.
"The other car hit her side of the truck....They had to use heavy equipment to get her free, she was pinned in the car... Last we heard she was getting pieces of glass and metal removed, she wasn't responding when they got her here," he says trying not to tear up. I nod and go to Justin and find myself taking his hand in mine and leaning on him. Zack finally turns around and he was crying.
"I should have seen the car coming. We were busy joking around and laughing, i didn't norice a car swearve into the wrong lane," he says punching the wall. The sudden anger Zack let out made me jump and Justin gripped my hand tighter and i calmed down.
"Zack, it isn't your fault. You didn't know that car would do that," Justin says trying to calm his friend down. Zack just looks back ou the window and ignores us.
A few hours later and Pattie walks in with Jazmine and a little boy i haven't met yet who i am assuming is Jaxon. right away Jazmine runs to me.
"Jessie," She says in a cute tone. She has a nickname for me now, how cute. I picked her up and set her on my hip as i stood next to Justin.
"Hey little girl," i say with a smile as she giggles. Justin smiles and his mom walks over holding Jaxon.
"Sorry it took so long, i had to get these two in the car, which is always a challenge," she says handing Jaxon to Justin.
"Oh Jessica, this is Jaxon by the way, he is a few years younger than Jazzy," Pattie says before going over to Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson. Jaxon smiles at me and hides his face in Justin's shoulder.
"Wonder how long we will be waiting here?" i asked taking a seat on the floor, Jazzy in my lap still. Justin sits down next to me with Jaxon.
"Well, we can stay as long as you want," He says with a smile as he holds my hand again. I smile at our intertwinned fingers. I like this feeling, having him around. Knowing he is the only one who won't hurt me, but was i ready to let another man into my life and risk being broken all over again?
"Layla Stevenson?" a doctor says walking in with a clipboard. We all stand but only Layla's dad goes over to the doctor. I see him tear up after the doctor says something to him.
