Chapter 3
It had been five months since she had started living at the Plenadora Vanzquez Mansion. Her birthday was coming up in exactly one month and she was anxious at what was going to happen to her.
At the moment though, she was on the computer video chatting with her best friends Vanity and Ron. They were giggling and conversing about recent events she missed at school. She Mackenzie had told her friends about everything that happened and that she wouldn’t be home for a while. Even though humans were not to know of the night creatures she trusted her best friends with everything.
It was coming on the 5 pm and Caius told her to be ready by six for a ball they would be attending. It was for the elite heads of the creatures of the night. She bid her friends adieu and closed down the computer to begin getting ready for tonight.
She took a fifteen minute shower and got out and did her hair, she styled her hair with gel. She pulled hair into a tight ponytail and then tied the back into a fluffy bow; her pink streaks were left out and curled into spirals around her face. She took out her set of makeup Caius had bought for her along with her dress and walked over to the dresser. Beginning to put on her make-up she realized she needed to hurry so instead did a light natural look. By the time she had on her black dress with the white belt and white shoes, there was a knock on her door.
“Miss. Flaxuer, Mr. Venture is ready to see you.” It was Pandora, her personal maid assigned to her when she became more comfortable in their home. Pandora blinked rapidly as she eased opened the door. “Oh my, Miss you look beautiful” she gushed, blushing at her comment.
“Well thank you Pandora and I’ll be right down” She smiled brightly at the young girl. She got her purse and made her way down stairs.
By the time they had arrived and entered the door Mackenzie was filled with nerves. She had never been to a party like this—or a ball like they had called it—or been surrounded by people that used to scare her. She knew now they were not all bad but there were some that still became evil every now and then. Mackenzie sighed, her favourite thing to do lately and walked closely behind the couple she had become so familiar with.
The ball room was beautifully decorated with white streamers and many chandeliers hanging over the tables that were positions at the back of the room. There was a stage like platform at the front and an empty space between them, the dance floor.
“Mackie, hurry we have to get to our table,” She swiveled around to fast only to find Athenodora standing behind her smiling her mysteriously scary smile. “Caius was worried so he asked me to come and find you; it’s not safe to wonder around just yet. You are still human and a lot of people here are well known for doing evil things, so just stick with me, okay?”
“Okay… What’s going to happen when I… change?” Mackenzie cringed, just because she accepted them didn’t mean she wanted to be one. She also didn’t want to let down all the people that came to believe in her through the past few months but it wasn’t their choice it was hers and she didn’t want to.
“You will be like Caius and I. Don’t worry we will take care of you.” She kept smiling which only freaked out her more.
Mackenzie sat at the table most of the night until Caius asked her for a dance. After two more dances with him she danced with other people she didn’t know but asked her in the same polite tone Caius did. She finally became tired after an hour of dancing and was about to asked to be excused when an adorable little boy asked her for a dance he looked so lonely she couldn’t refuse. As they were dancing she realized they were getting closer to the back door by the stage but said nothing.
The song changed We Found Love by Rihanna and she began randomly swaying to the song; she looked down at the boy for a moment and he was staring at her. His eyes started to change getting darker by the second and he started speaking to her.
“You wanted to use the bathroom and you were scared so I escorted you.” He murmured in low, serious voice.
“Okay.” She deadpanned and began following him through the door. Mackenzie felt wrong like her body was being controlled by an unknown force and it scared her.
Suddenly she was knocked in the back of her head, everything went blurry and then it went black. When she awoke it was too bright and unfamiliar. Mackenzie stared to panic and asked herself the question she asked herself 5 months ago
“Where am I?”
