Chapter 9
“Kristen! Kristen!” Lily was shaking me around in her little blonde hurricane. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, and then looked at her. In my best Southern Belle accent I said “why, hello, my darling, how ever are you?” Lily giggled with her hands over her mouth and looked at me. “You have border patrol in a half hour. Get a shower. Plus, guess what?”
“What”
“You have border patrol with Ryan!”
“God no!”
“Lord Yes!” she ran out, already fully dressed and prepared for me to jump up. Sighing, I forced myself out of my bed and got into the shower with my long red hair down out of its braid. After my shower, I continued with my morning routine. Dressing in my usual tank top, jeans, combat boots, and jacket, I looked in the mirror. My eyes looked back at me. Vivid, almost acid green with flecks of blue spotting them almost surprised me. Most people say they like them, but they just want a reason to stare at my eyes. I just sighed and went to border patrol without getting Ryan to creep on me.
“The city is at war, playtime for the young and rich. Ignore me of you see me cause I just don’t give a sh-“sticking out my tongue, I switched the song to something more of my style. Lily was so going to pay for nuking my I phone with all kinds of weird music that will get stuck in my head. I turned up the music to one of my favorite songs, Headstrong by Trapt. The music was so loud that I didn’t hear Ryan coming up behind me and tapping my shoulder. Bad move, pretty boy.
Instead of, say, being a normal person and turning around to look at him, I snapped my leg back into a runner’s position. It didn’t make him fall, but he was balancing on one foot, wobbling slightly. Don’t ask how I knew what he was doing, I just have a sixth sense, of some sorts. Anyway, I spun my body around to make him fall on his back. Then, to make sure he didn’t get up unless it was on my terms, I flipped and sat on him.
Most girls think that If they sat on a guy, the guy could easily lift them to get them off. It’s all in the center of balance, girls. Shift it even a little, and they can’t lift you at all and it makes the guy look like a doufus. Little trick of mine.
“Where you $%^$# following me?!” Ryan coughed in response. From the fall, not my body weight.
“So you cuss now?”
“Yes, and if you want the pro, then go to Lily Foster. She is the curser around here, not me”
We just sat there for a moment. Actually, I sat on his back and Ryan had his face in the dirt, but that’s not the point. We sat/laid there so long, in fact, that the song changed to who says by Selena Gomez.
“What is this song?” I could tell that he was grinning. Hoping that he would get worms in his teeth, I stood up and let him stand.
“So what do you want in the first place?” Ryan bit his bottom lip and looked at me. “Please, don’t get mad at me, this wasn’t my decision.”
“wha-“I was about to ask what he meant, but I got cut off by a cloth that was held over my mouth and nose, and I recognized it immediately recognized it. Sleeping gas. I held my breath and pretended to struggle. I was hoping that the struggling would work, but no dice. So instead I slumped over and closed my eyes. There was a rustle, then iron strong arms picked me up.
A voice broke the silence “that was easier than I thought it would be.” Said a girls voice
A male’s voice then spoke. “Ryan, I thought you were going to get Lily also?”
My head vibrated when Ryan spoke, he must be holding me. I tried and failed to not feel a little happy about that. “I couldn’t. She is out in the town nearby. How about Annie and I take Kristin back to the ship?” the ship? Holy crap!
“Sounds good to me” a guy said. Ryan started walking, and them it fell silent once again. Are they kidnapping me? Wait, don’t answer that; they are. This was not on my pro/con list at all.
Chapter 10
Ryan whispered, “We’re almost there.”
“Good” Annie responded
Oh crap! My foot started to twitch and I could not stop it even If I tried. Then Annie just had to point it out “what is she dreaming about?”
Ryan responded, “Probably kicking someone in the face. Or gut. Or… well, you get it. “My eyes snapped open and I said, “good guess!” my foot made contact with the inside of his jaw. I used the momentum to flip outside of his arms and land on both my feet. I had a second to take in my surroundings. There where trees, trees, and guess what1 more trees! I felt more than herd Annie come up behind me and land a punch right in the middle of my shoulder blades. Too bad for her that my jacket had padding right there.
I whipped around and roundhouse kicked Annie in the face. She fell to the ground and did not whip to her feet. Ryan was now up with a bruise right on his jaw. I smiled at him and evil smile “aint a dream anymore!” I said cheerfully, as if I wasn’t being kidnapped
Then, as if to punctuate my point, I punched him in the stomach. He fell against a tree and his eyes rolled back into his head.
I took another look around. If I can climb one of the trees I could jump on the rest of the group, effectively taking them by surprise, even if Lily is with them. Bingo! An oak was on the edge of the clearing where I could hide and jump.
Once I got up close to the top, I saw the group coming with Lily in tow. The group had a blond haired girl, a tan haired boy, and a black haired boy. They were almost right underneath. Then I took the jump
Chapter 11
I landed on the black haired boy and Blondie. The tan haired boy kicked me in the stomach and pushed me onto a tree. Then he pointed a gun at me. The gun was black and sleek, but he did not get even one round off. He was on the ground by then. Nobody kicks me except for Lily. I grabbed Lily’s hand and we ran through the woods.
After about a mile, a lake came into view. Lily looked at me, but when I blinked, she was gone. I spun around to look for her, but instead was greeted by a kick from Ryan, and yes, it actually did hurt. I flew into the water as Ryan and Blondie threw something in after me. It was a metal cube and I went to the bottom instantly.
I held my breath as Blondie and Ryan jumped in after me. Then I noticed something. Both of them where breathing. Under the freaking water. They had gills.
Chapter 12
“Hi, my name is Katherine, but you can call me K.” said Blondie who, by the way, looks like a freaking Barbie doll. I had to breathe sometime; my lungs ached with the lack of oxygen. Ryan put his face in front of mine. I sucked the water in for a gasp. I know, not smart, Kristin! Water filled me mouth, and surprisingly, I felt better. I took in another gulp. Ryan smiled at me as if he didn’t almost kill me from drowning. Instead I was a fish-person.
K was swimming towards the surface. I could not think straight. My head felt all loopy, and it wasn’t from the water. I vaguely wondered why Ryan was holding a gun and pointing it at me. Wait, Ryan is holding a gun? And pointing it at me?! Holy cappuccinos! He is trying to kill me! I tried to swim around him to hold on to his back and grab the gun from him, but he was too quick. He grabbed my wrist and once again pointed it at me.
“Night sweetheart.”
How dare he call me sweetheart! Was my last thought before the world went black
Chapter 13
I woke up in a cot. Where am I? What are you doing here? Do you have all of your limbs? Where is Lily? Why do I smell pancakes? I drilled myself. There was a buzzing next to my ear. It looked like a clock, but somewhat like a speaker. A voice spoke out of it “please get dressed, and then go to the kitchen for breakfast.” I looked down at myself. I still had everything on from last night, all the way down to my combat boots that I remembered Lily gave to me.
I got off of the cot and looked around. I was in a room with three cots; each had a blanket and a pile of clothes on the top of that. My pair of clothes contained black leggings and a simple tunic. I think I’ll skip breakfast for once; I’m not that hungry, am I? Then a rumble filled the room. Maybe not.
I got dressed and went out to find the kitchen; it wasn’t that hard to find, just follow the pancake road! When I got to the kitchen, I was greeted with a pancake in the face. Chatter that I heard before I came in made an instant disappearing act. I just peeled the pancake off my face and looked at the people in the kitchen. The whole group I’d seen last night was at a table, except for Ryan. Ryan was over by a stove-looking thing frying up more pancakes. I threw the pancake at his face and hit him, dead center. He just turned around and threw it back to me. “Good morning, Kristin. How do you like your pancakes?"
Chapter 14
I swallowed another hunk of pancakes, and they were actually really good, surprisingly. I could taste every little detail of his ingredients. Laying black in my chair, I looked around. I found out that the black haired boy was Colton and the tan haired boy was named Tye. Ryan had a bruise on his jaw; Annie had a bruise the size and shape of my foot on her face. K and Colton had bruises in their back (they told me. I didn’t look) and Tye had a bruise on both of his legs
Tye looked up from his pancakes, “so Kristen, do you remember any of you childhood?”
“Nope”
“Do you know who we are?”
“Nope.”
“Do you know where we are going?”
“To you secret lair.” He made a face. “You are exactly like Ryan described you.”I made a face at Ryan. Then Tye said two words that meant nothing to me “fire flower. I passed out. Again!
I have nothing against blond haired peeps! I am a blondie!!!
