THE GAP BETWEEN OUR BONES
it is the gap between our bones
the hollowness in our rib cage,
as we beg for someone to love us,
as we ache for a father to love us,
for a human to care. it is the fault
in our humanity and in the porcelain
hearts we cradle within our chests.
we must blame the fragility of our hearts
in the brute force of those who hold
our china bodies in their own hands,
cupping us gently and not as gently.
it is our thirst that we plead for other
lost souls like us to find our way to
each other, hoping maybe that two
lost people can make a home,
two broken clocks can somehow
start ticking, but the truth is that two
wrongs do not make a right, just as
two empty hearts cannot make each
other full again.
