A squeaky polyphonic trill whines into my silent bedroom right under my pillow.
I jolt awake with blood echoing in my eardrums. I believe its the emergency drill.
What?
No, Carlson would be here.
Shit!
I groan in realisation. Its the damn burn phone Carlson got for me and Liz the last week.
My heart rate is starting to slow down back to normal as I lie back onto the bed holding the ancient phone to my ear.
"Hell..." I clear me throat as I sound like there's a frog stuck in there. "Hello."
Silence.
"Liz?"
Nothing.
"Liz are you alright?"
My voice is coated with worry.
"My father died from a collapsed lung 10 mins ago."
