he came home drunk again
i escaped to you.
now i'm lying in bed next to you
still tossing and turning
at 3am because

you're peacefully sleeping
i sighed
and hoped one day i could
sleep peacefully like you.
you turned to me
and opened your eyes
"sleep baby girl"
i looked you dead in the eye
and asked the question
"how can i sleep? if i don't have dreams i just have nightmares"
