Hey. So this is another letter where I think I'm going to rant to you about love, or such having to do with love. It's more of the cliche way that people judge relationships, or how they act toward them. There are so many expectations and so many false accusations, and it tears people apart. It makes me sick.
How a boy or girlfriend is supposed to treat you, for instance. Boys are supposed to pay, or they're supposed to give you flowers or presents, or call you beautiful, or be really sweet and act like you're their one and only. Well you know what? That's not how real love works, in my opinion.
Real love is in all the little things.
When you're equals and you split the bill, and when one of you forgets cash, you pay the whole of it because you owe each other all the time. When you walk into a room and you don't have to go right up to that person, because you catch their eye and give you a look, and you know that all the words are in that single look; there's nothing else to say or do. The way that a soft touch on your shoulder, or the idly playing with your hair, or someone laughing at a joke and looking right into your eyes because they've thought of you.
It's not about what you're supposed to do, it's just those little moments that create the true bits of love.
Sure, you'll fight. You'll get into stupid god damned arguments all the time, and maybe neither of you will know how to act. Maybe one of you doesn't know how to be a boyfriend, or doesn't know how to express the love directly, but you'll always know. Maybe they forget things, like a simple present, or forget to call you one night, or text you another. Yet they're still there the second they see a coffee mug and stupidly text you about some idiotic joke you had three hours ago.
That's fucking love. It's not cliche, and even if it is cliche, that doesn't mean it's real or fake. Just because one piece of a memory is different than another, doesn't mean it's not the same. Just because people are different or have different jokes or different types of dates, doesn't mean that they're not in love. That doesn't give anyone the right to be judged or judge others. That doesn't give the right to accuse them of being bad people or mean or angry to each other.
Nobody really knows them, except them.
False accusations, let's see. When a girl gets a boyfriend, most people say that she'll lose friends. Maybe that's just in high school, but basically she gets a girlfriend or boyfriend and spends all of her time with them, and neglects her friends.
What if it's not always like that? What if you're busy, completely and utterly busy, doing an activity or something, and your boyfriend just happens to be there too? That doesn't mean you're ripping your friends off. It doesn't mean you're avoiding them.
What if you have a ton of challenging classes, and you have a brother that doesn't do shit, and your parents pressure you to clean and get perfect grades and be absolutely perfect? Then that doesn't mean that you're avoiding them. It doesn't mean that. It's not your fault, right?
It's just not cool. It's not cool to be accused like that, and kept a grudge upon.
So fuck you, expectations. Fuck you.
