Jervis was sick to death of this party already. Vermin in the Mayors Mansion were adorned in the most horrendous outfits.
No class.
No style.
No flair!
Jervis should know, he prided himself in knowing what had flair and what was too much. In what was classily-overdone and trying too hard. And everyone here was trying far too hard, or too little.
Jervis didn't hate costumes in general. Some were grand displays of life and death, and that merry little show in-between. But THESE? These were not costumes. These had no imagination. Just bland, awful, masks and animal ears. Not even REAL animal ears, he had a friend who wore rabbit ears. But he was genuine in his endeavors. He removed them from the Cotton-tails himself.
And anyway that fit his M.O. He was the March Hair, after all.
Jervis stared into the flames of the fire-place before him. Staring into the abyss of the heat and the light.
He was not only bored. He was existentially bored. At this point, spying on the leaders of Gotham City was not worth this extreme torture.
Then. His attention was drawn to the coldest and emptiest corner of the room. Not by any noise, for there was no noise. It was as if his attention was drawn by the silence.
That is when he saw her.
She wore blue.
And a white apron.
Her hair was a lovely blonde shade.
Upon her feet where black peasant shoes with buckles.
In his minds eye he saw his sister... His dear, dear sister. Taken from him too soon.
But there was something else there. A sort of heavenly awake-ness. A light, a submission of not weakness but of the choice of love. In fact everything about this girl screamed love. Love, and sweetness, and innocence.
You could see with a simple glance that this girl doesn't have, never had, and never will have a single drop of malice in her. She was the crisp air of spring, unrelenting in her sweet newness.
As he watched her in her private corner, he could see when she realized she was being watched. She swallowed, and kept her eyes on her untouched glass of champagne. She was visibly shaking. It was simple to see that this flower had never encountered someone with so much intensity carried in their eyes alone. She wasn't even making direct contact yet and she was already in shambles. She took a breath, then he got to watch as she choked it out of her lungs in her nervousness. Then she took another to steady her, then she slowly let it out.
Her eyes shook as they rose from their stationary position on the glass to his unwavering eyes.
Blue.
A type of blue he had never seen in his life. She ducked her head.
His steps were undoubtedly aggressive as he strutted towards her.
His hand touched first her hair, and then her face.
Her eyes flashed back to his, then back down.
She was blushing.
He smiled.
