CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
night school {part one}

YASMINE MCCALL

"Lock it! Lock it!" Scott screamed at Stiles as the two held the doors closed.

Stiles glared at my brother. "Do I look like I have a key?!"

"Grab something!"

"What?!"

"Anything!"

I had been sitting on the floor for a few seconds and said nothing, because I couldn't actually believe that Derek was dead. Yes, he was a dickhead most of the time and I'd never seen him smile, but maybe that had something to do with the fact that his entire family had died in a fire, his sister who hadn't died in the fire was killed here in Beacon Hills by the Alpha and his uncle, who actually made it out of the fire alive, was currently in a nursing home in a catatonic state.

I snapped out of thoughts and decided that I could silently mourn Derek's death after and focus on getting out of here alive instead. I saw Stiles get up and look out of the window, Scott getting up right after.

"No," Scott said.

"Yes," Stiles replied determined.

"Stiles, no! Don't!" I yelled as Stiles opened the door and carefully slipped out, closing the door behind him. I stood up and looked out of the window myself alongside Scott. Stiles looked around before he discreetly ran down the stairs and tried to grab the pair of cutters he'd brought with him.

My eyes drifted up and I saw the Alpha crawling out from behind Stiles' Jeep. "Run!" I yelled and banged on the window. Scott saw the Alpha as well and together we stood, yelling and banging on the door, worried about our best friend.

Stiles turned his head and spotted the Alpha that had begun running right towards him. He got up, ran up the stairs and managed to get back inside before the Alpha could get to him. He jammed the cutters over the door handles so it couldn't be opened.

"Please don't ever do that again." I whispered lowly as the three of us slowly stood up and tried to peak out of the window.

Scott looked around scared. "Where is it?" He asked when none of us spotted the Alpha.

Stiles grabbed the large flashlight from Scott's hand and began lighting it towards the parking lot as he looked for the Alpha. All three of us breathed heavily as we began backing away from the door.

"That won't hold, will it?" I questioned as I corrected my boot.

Stiles gazed at me with wide eyes. "Probably not."

We couldn't go outside because the Alpha was out there and he'd most likely kill us before we even made it down the stairs. I dreaded everything as I turned around and looked down the hallway of my school, that, by the way, looked hella creepy at night.

A loud howl echoed through the school and that was all the two boys needed before they grabbed an arm of mine each and began running down the hallway. I was forced into a random classroom and immediately the two boys went for the desk.

"Stop, stop!" Stiles said as they were about to push the desk in front of the door to keep the Alpha out. "The door's not gonna keep it out."

"I know."

I stood up from the desk I was sitting on and approached Scott. "It's your boss." I stated coldly and ran a hand through my messy wavy hair.

"What?" Scott asked me confused as he kept his grip on the desk.

Stiles nodded at me, then returned his gaze to Scott. "Deaton, the Alpha, your boss!"

"No!"

"Yes!" Stiles and I retorted in unison. "Murdering psycho werewolf," Stiles persisted.

Scott shook his head. "That can't be!"

I scoffed and threw up my hands. "Oh, c'mon! He disappears and that thing shows up ten seconds later to toss Derek twenty feet through air? That's not convenient timing." I rolled my eyes sarcastically.

"It's not him!"

"He killed Derek!"

I glared at Stiles. "Derek's not dead! He cannot be dead!" I panicked a little.

Stiles leaned over the desk, looking between Scott and I who both refused to believe that Derek was dead. "Blood spluttered out of his mouth, okay? That doesn't exactly qualify as a minor injury! He's dead and we're next!"

"Okay!" Scott tried to calm his breathing down. "Just...what do we do?!"

Stiles took a deep breath as we looked between Scott and I. "We get to my Jeep, we get the hell outta here, you seriously think about quitting your job. Good?" He suggested.

The three of us ran to the window and tried to look out, just as Scott tried to open the window. "They don't open, the school's climate controlled." I told him.

"We break it." My brother suggested.

Stiles shot down his suggestion immediately. "Which will make a lot of noise."

"Then..." Scott trailed off as he began looking around the parking lot. "Then we run really fast. Really fast."

"I'm wearing fucking booties because someone neglected to tell me what we were doing!" I said and pointed towards the black two-inch booties I was wearing.

Stiles glanced down and cursed. "There goes that plan."

I huffed and glanced our the window again, something catching my eye. "Stiles, what's wrong with the hood of your Jeep?"

"What do you mean? Nothing's wrong."

My eyes widened. "It's bent." I breathed shocked.

"What, dented!" Stiles asked and pushed Scott to the side as he looked out the window.

I shook my head. "N-no, I mean bent!"

Stiles breathed heavily right next to me, his hazel eyes locked on his precious Jeep named Roscoe. "What the hell happene-"

Stiles pulled me down to the ground as he ducked himself, something heavy breaking the glass and falling right onto the floor of the classroom in front of us. I calmed down my heartbeat and thanked Stiles silently for pulling me down with him so I wasn't hit in the head with a car battery.

"That's my battery!" Stiles spat bitterly and tried to stand up, only to be pulled down by Scott.

"Don't!"

"We have to move." I ordered and ran a hand through my hair like I always did when I was stressed.

Scott gazed at me with wide puppy eyes. "He could be right outside!"

Stiles leaned forward and stared back at my brother. "He is right outside!"

Scott panted harder than he did before. "Just let me take a look."

Stiles smiled a little awkwardly before he leaned over and removed a little piece of glass that pierced into my skin just near my collarbone. I thanked him as he gently wiped away the small amount of blood and made sure it stopped bleeding.

I cleared my throat and glanced up at brother. "Anything?"

He shook his head. "No." He answered and kept looking.

"Move now?"

Scott looked back at Stiles with wide eyes that showed how scared he was. "Move now." He nodded.

Slowly the three of us stood up and began making our way out of the classroom as the Alpha knew we were in there. The soft sound of my heels hitting the ground echoed softly through the hallway.

"This way," Scott said and turned to his right.

"No, no, no, no, no!" Stiles stopped him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Somewhere without windows."

I looked at with wide eyes. "Every single room in this building has windows."

"Somewhere with less windows, then." The Sheriff's son rephrased himself.

An idea hit me as I looked at my brother. "The locker room,"

They agreed and soon the three of us rushed down the hallway towards the boys' locker room where there were barely any windows, meaning the Alpha couldn't just jump in or throw things at us. As we made it inside, I was careful to close the door as silently as I could before turning around and following the two boys further into the locker room.

"Call your dad." My brother said to Stiles.

"And tell him what?"

Scott shrugged. "I don't know, anything! A gas leak, a fire, whatever! If that thing sees the parking lot filled with cop cars, it'll take off."

"What if it doesn't! What if it goes completely terminator and kills every cop in sight, including my dad?"

"They have guns." Scott tried.

Stiles seemed to be getting frustrated. "Yeah and Derek had to be shot with a wolfsbane-laced bullet to even slow him down, remember that?"

Scott shook his head as he began thinking. "Then...then we have to...we have to just find a way out and just run for it!"

"There's nothing near the school for at least a mile." I reminded Scott.

His eyes widened as he looked at me. "What about Derek's car?"

"That could work." Stiles' hazel eyes also widened as he began making up an idea in his head. "We go outside, we get the keys off his body and then we take his car."

"And him." I said angrily. Derek might have been a dick most of the time, but he'd helped us as well and he didn't deserve to be left here with the Alpha, death or not.

Stiles saw my glaring eyes and my pouty lips and sighed. "Fine, whatever!"

I began leading the way towards the other door in the locker room that lead outside and just as I reached for the door handle, Scott grabbed my wrist. "What?"

"I think I heard something."

"What?!" Stiles panicked as he leaned his head forward to looked between Scott and I.

"Shush, quiet!" Scott demanded as he began listening for whatever he'd heard before, all of us quietly praying that it wasn't the Alpha.

Suddenly, Scott looked at us with dilated pupils and that's when all three of us slowly began backing away from the blue door. Scott turned Stiles' flashlight around so that it flashed into his leg and not towards the door. "Hide." Scott whispered.

Before I could even react, Stiles opened a locker, grabbed my wrist and pulled me inside the locker with him before he slammed it shut. I stood chest to chest with Stiles inside the locker and our noses were almost touching because of the tight space in here. I could feel my cheeks getting redder, the butterflies in my stomach flying harder and my breathing getting faster. I stood in a locker room with my crush of x amount of years, our noses almost touching as I could feel every single body part of his touching my body.

"Are you okay?" He whispered, his warm breath hitting my face.

I gulped nervously and took a deep breath. "Yes, I'm fine."

Stiles held a hand over his mouth as someone entered the locker room and walked around. Whoever had walked in opened the door to the locker Scott was hiding in and immediately Stiles opened the door to our locker and jumped out, trying to get the janitor to shut up as he began yelling. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath again, counting to ten to prevent a panic attack, because I was convinced that the Alpha had just walked in and I was gonna die in the school.

"Quiet my ass! What are you doing? Trying to kill me?!" The janitor spoke extremely loud. "All of you, get out!"

"God, will you just listen for half a second, okay?!" Stiles spat annoyed as the janitor kept talking.

"Not okay! Get the hell out of here right now!" He pushed all three of us out of the locker room. Stiles tried talking to him, but the second the man told us to shut up and go, he was pulled into the locker room and the door was slammed, a loud growl coming from the inside. The man tried to grab the door, but he was dragged down again, his blood staining the glass. Scott leaned forward and tried to pull open the door and save the man, but Stiles pulled him away and pushed him forward as the three of us began running away.
