Surprise update because I feel bad about what happened yesterday 😬

Dedication goes to Awkward-Allie for this chapter! :)

****

Calum and I pulled up to our final destination.

I turned down my radio, which was now playing Something by The Beatles. We found and parking spot and I turned off the car but didn't get out.

Calum looked over at me from the passenger seat. "You alright?"

I nodded, looking at my steering wheel.

"Hey," He said softly. "It'll be alright. This will work."

"I sure hope so," I said quietly. "I really miss Ashton."

He nodded. "Alright, you ready?"

I nodded as we hopped out of the car. Outside was the small building we were looking for.

I took the cake from Calum and went inside, and started working.

About fifteen minutes later I heard my phone buzz.

CalPal96 is typing...

Snapchat from CalPal96

I loaded up snapchat.

CalPal96
Are you just about good? Can I go grab the boys?

Me
Yup. Keep me posted when you get here.

CalPal96
Will do.

Me
Thanks for doing this Calum.

CalPal96
Well I'm technically doing it for ash but yeah any time :-)

I chuckled and rolled my eyes as I closed my phone.

Everything just needed a few small tweaks. I put some candles in the cake, which sat on the beige countertop in the kitchen.

I set a dark blue cloth over the small dining room table, and set out five plates and cups.

Grabbing my phone, I dialled a number, and waited anxiously for the other end to pick up.

It took about six rings, and just as I was about to hand up, feeling hopeless, they picked up.

"Hi," I said. "I'd like to place an order for two pizzas."

----

I heard the door unlock and feet shuffling in.

"Ash, it's me!" Calum called as he entered the room.

I jogged up to him. "You found my phone?" I asked eagerly.

Calum chuckled, reached into his back pocket, to reveal my phone. "Nice to see you too," he grinned as he handed me his phone.

"Sorry," I felt my face go red with guilt.

Calum's expressed softened. "Lighten up man, I was joking."

"Oh, sorry," I said again.

Calum looked at me.

We shared an awkward silence until he piped up again.

"Well, are you ready to go out to dinner with the boys?" Calum asked. "I found this cute small place, I went and checked it out earlier, it's just the right size, nice and cozy, and that's when I found your phone."

I rubbed my the back of my neck. "Um, I'm not sure if I want to go out tonight."

Calum's smile faded. "Come on, Ash, you've said that every night this week. Just this one night. I made sure this place was small, too."

I shook my head. "I don't know, Calum-"

"You're going." Calum said. "I've already made reservations."

"But Calum-"

"But Ash," Calum mimicked my voice. "Look, I'm sorry what happened, happened. Just promise me when we go out tonight you'll try to forget about it."

I sighed. "Okay, maybe going out will help." I nodded.

"Good," he patted my back. "Now go get ready, and take a shower while you're at it, you smell like oh haven't showered since Monday." Calum wrinkled his nose.

I looked at him. "I haven't."

"Oh," Calum shrugged. "We'll go get ready time's-a-wasting!"

I slowly jogged over to the bathroom, and Calum's phone buzzed. I looked at him as he pulled out his phone and quickly started typing.

"Who's that?" I asked him, walking back over to look at his phone.

"My mom," Calum yanked the phone out of my sight.

I eyed him. "Whatever, Calum." I sighed, walking back into the bathroom.

After taking a shower, I got dressed in a grey shirt with black skinny jeans, and tied some converse on.

I stood in front of Calum 30 minutes later.

"You look great," he grinned, scanning me up and down.

"Thanks," I smiled.

We jumped into his car and we picked up Michael and Luke, who were at the local Arcade.

They jumped into the backseat.

"Where did you choose to have dinner?" Luke called from the back.

"You'll find out," Calum smiled.

We drove around and listened to All Time Low. As bad as I felt, spending time with the boys and singing along to the music made me feel better.

After about thirty minutes of driving we pulled up to a small building by a beach. The sun was setting on the horizon, making the sky a beautiful purple-orange colour. For some reason I felt my heart flutter and a wave of nervousness overcame me.

Calum stopped the car and looked around. "Do you guys know where the beach bathrooms are? I gotta use it before we go in," he muttered.

I realised how badly I had to pee. "Me too," I noted.

Luke pointed to a small bathroom building far to the left.

"You can go first, Ashton." Calum said.

I unbuckled from the car and jogged to the bathroom building. Before I went inside I looked back at the car and saw Calum leaned over the front seat talking to Michael and Luke, and I had the strange feeling I was being talked about.

When I got back all the boys were out of the car and Calum's phone buzzed.

"Who ya texting?" Michael asked curiously.

Calum eyed him. "My mom," he said.

"What's she want?" I tried to bring myself back into the conversation.

Calum's face tinted red. "Oh, um, she was wondering if I wanted to watch a movie."

I stared at him. "Isn't she back in Australia?"

"W-we Skype," Calum stuttered.

"You watch a movie over Skype?" I raised an eyebrow. "How's that echo?"

"Oh, erm, its f-fine." Calum tucked his phone away.

I felt myself grow frustrated from Calum's secrecy. It was obvious that he was not texting his mom. I rolled my eyes. "Whatever, let's just get this dinner over with."

Calum, Luke and Michael exchanged glances and then nodded.

We walked up to the porch of the small building and something cried out.

"Uh, hi Ashton, this is Courtney."

"What the hell?" I looked around to see where the sound was coming from, but I couldn't find it.

I looked at he boys. "You hear that too, right? I'm not going insane?"

Luke nodded. "I hear it."

It continued.

"If you pull your phone out you'll realise this is a recording that I set and I'm actually calling you. I thought this was a cool idea because even though we've sent each other photos of our faces we've never heard each other's voices."

I pulled my phone out of my back pocket. Sure enough I was getting a call from Courtney. I don't know how her number was in my phone, because I don't remember making her a contact, but there it was.

I declined the call.

Calum blinked at me. "What are you doing?" He asked.

"The whole point of me coming out is to get over this. So no Abigail tonight, er- Courtney tonight, er- ugh I don't even know what to call her," I scoffed.

Calum muttered something under his breath.

My anger boiled over the line. "What was that, Calum?" I glared. "Oh wait, that's right, it doesn't matter because it'll just fall in the category of all the other secrets you're keeping from me."

Calum's face turned into shock. "W-what?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Oh please, Calum, You're a bad liar." I spat. "You don't think I've noticed everything? You're obviously not texting your mom, when I went to the bathroom you started talking to Michael and Luke to what I'm going to assume was about me, and since then all three of you have been acting strange. Can you just please drop it?"

"Ashton, I promise-" Calum started.

"-that you'll explain it?" I snapped. "Fat chance, Calum." I huffed.

"Let's just go inside and we can talk about it then, and I'll explain the whole thing."

I scoffed. "Oh okay, well then, that'll make everything better!" I angrily grabbed the bronze round doorknob and yanked it open. The room was completely dark.

I stopped.

"Are you going in?" Calum asked nervously.

I cautiously took a step inside the dark room.
"Calum are you sure they're open?" I asked, all my anger leaving.

Luke followed Calum inside. "They should be open,"

"Well, this is a flop. Oh well guess we'll have to go back and order takeout-"

The lights flew on and everybody yelled.

I ducked and covered my ears, squeezing my eyes shut.

When I opened my eyes, Luke, Calum and Michael were all standing there still.

I stood back up and felt my face go red. "Sorry," I rubbed my arm.

Luke chuckled. "Do you know what we said, Ashton?"

I shook my head.

"We all yelled 'Surprise', you idiot," Michael smiled.

That's when I took in my surroundings.

The walls had small pieces of string up, with balloons in each corner. There was a poster on the wall that said, "I love Ashton Irwin," on it. And lastly I noticed the table.

There were 5 plates laid on the dark blue cloth.

"Why are there 5 plates-" I stopped talking, answering my own question.

I spun around and a young girl stood behind me.

Her eyes were wide, and she looked nervous. Her face had a peach colour to it, and it was obvious she was blushing. And her hair.

It started at black at her roots, and as it curled down to her waist, it lightened to an orange, and then to a bright red.

It was beautiful.

"Abigail?" I breathed.

"Hi," she swallowed and smiled lightly.

I didn't know what to do. I wasn't sure if I should've been angry or happy, but my mind just worked.

Tears welled into my eyes and suddenly I was softly crying and I pulled her into a tight hug. Though she was much smaller than me, her head fit nicely on my chest.

"I missed you so much," I muttered.

"I missed you too," she hugged me tightly.

We just stayed like that for a while until I realised the other boys were there too.

I pushed her off and cleared my throat. "So, uh, dinner?" I rubbed my neck.

"Oh, right." She spun around and went into the small kitchen, where she came back with two boxes of pizza.

The five of us sat down at the table and ate and talked.

I purposely sat away from Courtney so she and Calum had to see next to each other (because I secretly ship them even if the whole dinner was for me.)

After we ate our fabulous pizza Courtney  brought out a cake. I chuckled when I read the message on it.

On the cake, written in red frosting, it read:

Please forgive me because I haven't gotten to say Afros to someone in weeks - I'm dying

Calum cut pieces out for everyone and we noshed on the strawberry flavoured cake.

Afterwards, we headed out to the beach, and played around. The sun had just finished setting, and I stood with Michael and Luke as we watched Calum and Courtney sit on the beach.

Even though I knew this was for me, I felt happy that Calum and Courtney were talking, I knew they would get along.

"Did Calum set this whole thing up?"

"It was Courtney's idea but when he texted her through your snapchat he gave her his so they could plan it."

I nodded. "Well, it was nice of him. Thanks, guys."

Luke smiled. "We didn't like seeing you unhappy."

We stayed on the beach and hung out all night long until the boys and I drove Courtney back to her dorm, at around four AM.

After we dropped her off, Michael drove the rest of us home. I managed to fall asleep in the back of the car.

When I woke up I was back on my bed, still in my clothes from last night.

Though I had only been hanging out with friends, I felt a strange feeling of sadness and loneliness. I sat up in my bed and immediately felt like texting Courtney.

However I couldn't find my phone.

"Michael? Luke? Calum?" I called as I checked around but none of the boys were around either.

I slugged through each room to try and find them but I was alone.

Completely and utterly alone, feeling sad and lonely.
