Running from my problems was a constant theme for me. I'm not sure why I do the one thing I hate but I do. Cruising down this long abandoned road wasn't where I saw myself yesterday but the recent turn of events gave me no choice.

The snow was thick, almost too thick. I was glad that I had invested in my snow tires last week. I hoped that I could get as far as I could before having to worry. My gas tank was full and I knew it would be enough to get me to Bangor. I hoped so. When I got there, I'm not sure what my next step would be but I knew I needed to get far far away from Maine. Bangor was the closest city with an airport.

Clutching my hands on the wheel and carefully maneuvering through the broken branches and fallen trees was proving to be a challenge. The road wasn't visible as it was blanketed with a layer of white. I hoped I was going the right way.

I was trying to keep my mind focused on the road and drive safely but it constantly wandered to him. I couldn't get him out of my mind even with what he did to me. I wanted to feel torn up about it but I couldn't. In some sort of twisted way, I wanted it. Definitely not like that though. The whole experience was extremely primal and raw. The way that he took me was pure animal. In a way, I liked it.

The noises and grunts that escaped his lips did nothing but fuel the fire that was raging in my stomach. When he reached his peak, I had expected him to collapse on me and fall asleep but I was extremely wrong. He gazed into my eyes for a moment before laying a soft kiss on my forehead. I'm not sure what he was feeling in the moment but his dark eyes seemed to lighten at that moment. As quickly as it happened, he rolled off of me and settled next to me. I listened closely as I waited for his breath to even out. When it did, I know what I needed to do. I began shuffling about trying to be as discreet as possible.

My mind was on autopilot as I collected the necessities. I just knew that I couldn't live this life. Not surrounded by mythical creatures that could lose control at any moment. That's not a life worth living.

Focusing my eyes back to the road, I quickly swerved to avoid a large tree that had partially blocked the road.

I needed to pay attention.

Turning up the radio, the calm voice of Sade floated out. My entire demeanor calmed as the smooth beats calmed me down. The sign for Bangor whizzed by and I knew instantly that everything would be okay..hopefully.

Bangor was bigger than what I expected. The amount of McDonalds that I saw were endless. The blizzard had only nipped them and a thin layer of snow carpeted the ground. The city was buzzing with life as people walked along the small sidewalks. Shops were lit up and beckoned anyone that walked past them.

Scanning my eyes along the horizon for a decent hotel was easy. The bright signs were not easy to miss. I pulled into the nearest one and parked in a vacant parking spot. As soon as I did, my phone came alive blaring its generic ringtone.

Picking it up, the number that flashed on the screen was unknown and I had half the mind to ignore it but I found myself quickly pressing the answer button. I pressed the device to my ear.

"Hello?" There was deep panting on the other side of the line. I could easily tell it was male. I just hoped it wasn't who I thought it was.

"Where are you?" His voice was panicked. I couldn't help but to roll my eyes at that.

"Far far away from you. Don't come looking for me." I went to go hang up but before I could something in his voice made me rethink what I was doing.

"Don't hang up..please. Can you let me explain?" He paused waiting for my answer. I could hear his deep breathing on the line. It had slowed down now. It was even and calm.

"Last night..it wasn't me. I'd never do that to you Evathia..that's not who I am. My wolf..when you said that you didn't want to be with me, he took it as a rejection. Coupled with your heat, he couldn't resist himself. I couldn't do anything Eva, it's like watching a bad horror film but it's you who's the main character but you're not controlling your own actions."

He took and deep breath and then continued. "When I woke up and I couldn't find you, I didn't know what to do. I was so angry with myself, I'd driven away the only thing that made me happy. I can't lose you, please. Please come home. If you want me to stay away from you, I will. I won't bother you. I just..I just need to know if you're okay."

I didn't know what to say. I was lost for words. "Kyros– I don't know what to say to you. I don't understand what you're saying. What do you mean by my heat..?"

He sighed into the phone and I could hear him shuffling around. "I don't understand it either really. Being that you're a human, you shouldn't be having one but you do. When females are in heat, they release certain scents off to unmated male wolves. Females in heat have very strong emotions and generally it leaves you in a constant state of arousal. They tend to do things on a whim sometimes."

That made sense. My emotions were all over that place but I just attributed it to my oncoming period. "I understand, but I'm not coming home. I've had my fair share of wolves and I need time to myself. I hope you can understand."

"Eva, I can understand that but it's not a good idea for a female in heat to be traveling alone. Unmated male wolves have no control over themselves when they do stumble across one. I don't want anyone to try and take advantage of you. I want to at least know where you are so I can keep an eye on you."

I sighed into the phone. I need to get away from him but knowing what I know now. Having him near until this heat went away seemed like my best option.

"Bangor. At some hotel." There was shuffling and then I could hear the faint noise of cars beeping.

"I'm coming. I'm almost there. Stay put."

"You followed me?" I couldn't help the anger that washed over me.

"Of course I did. I told you. I can't lose you Eva." The tone in his voice caused butterflies in my stomach.

"Kyros.." My mind couldn't form any coherent sentences to respond to his revelation.

"Don't say anything. Just go get a room and I'll be there soon." With that, the line went dead.

I got out of my Jeep and grabbed my bag from the backseat. Making my way to the main building, I hoped the rooms weren't too expensive. The sliding door parted and I was greeted with a cozy lobby. The fire place in the corner gave off an immense heat which filled the room. Walking up to the front desk, I hit the bell on the counter which caused the shrill tone to resonate around the room.

A thin man came to the front and when his eyes landed on me, I could visibly see his eyes dilate.

Wolf.

I could see him grasp the edge of the counter and give me a forced smile. When he spoke his voice was husky. "How can I help you Miss?"

"I'd like a room please." He moved over to the computer in the corner but didn't take his eyes off me.

"How many days?"

"Two."

He swiftly started typing on his computer, his eyes finally on the screen. For that I was relieved.

A few moments later, I had paid for my room and was currently headed there. I didn't expect much but I hoped it was decent. Finally making my way to my room door took a while. The elevator was unnecessarily slow. Using my room key to open the door, the green light flashed and I pushed open the door.

Closing and locking the door behind me, I took a glimpse around. It was exactly what I wanted. Comfortable and not too extravagant. I set my bags down next to the dresser and collapsed onto the soft bed. The bed was a nice contrast to the wild jumbled thoughts in my head. Closing my eyes for a moment, I took a moment to get myself together. I had no plan.

I wanted to get far away from Kyros..I really did but he was making this impossible. If I didn't have this heat..I would be on my first flight across the country by now.

I wasn't sure where I wanted to go..I just needed to get away. If only for a couple of days. Where would I go though? Miami perhaps? I've always wanted to go there.

A yawn quickly escaped my lips. The long drive had worn me out, maybe a quick nap wouldn't hurt..

When I woke up again, the room was incased in inky darkness. My body felt warm..too warm as if it was being trapped inside a heater. When I tried to move, a deep groan resonated behind me.

What the hell?

When I moved again, the sound repeated and there was movement behind me as they shifted and fell back into a deep sleep.

I flipped over to be face to face with the person I was trying to escape. His eyelids were lightly closed with his dark eyelashes splayed under his eyes. They really framed his face nicely. His mouth was slightly parted and I could feel his even breath against my cheek.

Looking down between us, I could see that his arm was wrapped tightly around my midriff. I was relieved to see that both of our clothes were still on.

I couldn't help but to press my palm against his cheek. I would never tire of the faint tingles I felt whenever I touched him.  "Kyros."

He opened one dark eye and squeezed my waist. "Go back to sleep."

"I want to talk."

He sighed, opened both eyes and sat up a bit. "About what?"

"About what happens between us. I know you're just not going to let me fly across the country without you watching me."

A small grin graced his lips. "You know me too well. Of course I'm not gonna let you go alone. I'm coming with you but I'll be virtually invisible. Promise." He leaned down to press a small kiss on my forehead.

"You're like an STD. Once you've got it, it's nearly impossible to get rid of it."

He let out a audible gasp. "Are you really comparing me to an STD right now?"

"Definitely, that's the only thing comparable to you." I couldn't help but let a grin cross my face.

He let out a long laugh. It's the first time I've ever heard him laugh so freely. His face looked so relaxed and I instantly smiled knowing that I caused that.

"You know..how'd you even get in here?" I raised my eyebrow at him while he was still slightly recovering from his laugh.

"We're still in my territory princess." A smug look crossed over his features. I couldn't help but to roll my eyes at that.

"Where does your territory stop?" I was genuinely interested in how wolves split up territory.

"At the edge of Bangor. Landon owns the rest up into Canada."

"Landon?" I questioned.

"Err..you don't know him." A strange look crossed over his face.

"He's not the best person. I'm just glad you didn't cross into his territory. He's not the kindest to humans."

For the next hour or so we just exchanged conversation back and forth. I asked him many questions about the werewolf life and he answered them truthfully.

I was ready to keep going until I heard a sharp snore. Looking over at him, his head was slumped over and his arms were crossed over his chest.

Of course he fell asleep on me.
