Let Her Choose

please don't tell me it's the woman's fault that she becomes pregnant

don't say that to the fourteen year old girl who is forced into a bed at the party, shaking and scared, by a boy with beer on his lips and a look in his eyes that says he has always wanted this

now she has a responsibility and a constant reminder of the battle she went through, a scar that will one day kick inside of her

imagine living with that

imagine being forced to live with that

don't say it to the thirty-year old woman, who lives alone in an apartment she can't afford, who has a life growing inside of her when she can barely grow in the life she has

don't tell her the other options she has, when you are not the one who has to choose

you cannot even imagine what is easiest for her

you cannot decide what is moral

you are not her

why are men never told it is their fault for creating a child

it does not happen with just a woman

it is not her fault, or a punishment she has received

let her choose

it is her body, capable of creating life but never required to

let her choose

author's note: ayy, I wrote this poem very quickly and I hope it's okay! This poem is not meant to offend people who are pro-life, as I very much can see and understand that point of view! I do have a problem with the argument that it is murder and the woman's fault, as I got told that recently and it made me feel bad about myself and the way I think and also just slightly ashamed to have been born with a body that can carry a life, if that makes sense. So I decided to write a poem about it, because I haven't written anything in a long time. Thanks for reading, and comment or vote if you enjoyed! :)
