One would think that going to a David Bowie concert would get everyone happy and hyper and loving life, right? Wrong! Kayla was a girl who loved more classical music, not so much rock and roll, or even glam rock, for that matter! But one day, her life permanently changed.
She was walking through the busy streets of her hometown in England when she heard someone running behind her. She turned around and saw her mother following her and waving something over her head that looked like paper. It wasn't until she got closer to Kayla that she saw the pieces of paper were tickets to some kind of concert. Kayla's mother finally stopped in front of her and said, "Finally, Kayla, I've been looking for you everywhere! You need to come home now and help me get ready!"
Kayla's eyebrow raised as she watched her mom babble on about this "magical" concert that she and you were going to. Wait, what did she just say to Kayla? She was going to a concert with her mother? She then said, "Whoa whoa whoa, slow down here for a second! Are you actually telling me that I'm going to a concert with you? We've NEVER done anything together since you started working for that publishing company and I've been in university, Mum! Why are we going out now?"
Mum scoffed, flipped her hair behind her, and answered, "We always go out together, darling. Don't be silly. And besides, I thought it was time for us to have some mummy-daughter time before your break's over and you have to go back to university. Is that so wrong?"
Kayla didn't know what to say after that. It wasn't like her mother to remember that she was on break from university or that she was going back to her studies in a week. What was up with her, and why was she being so nice? Kayla cautiously asked, "Ok, not that I'm complaining right now, but why're you doing this, Mum?"
She didn't say anything, only grabbed Kayla's hand and bolted down the busy streets and into all of the clothing shops that were open and that she wanted to go to before the mystery concert. They tried on all different kinds of outfits and talked about Kayla's university studies and about her mother's job and everything they could think of. It was as if nothing had changed between them, and Kayla loved it to pieces.
Le Timeskip to the Concert!
By the time the concert had started, Kayla was fuming for multiple reasons. Why? Reason number one) her mother neglected to mention that it was a David Bowie concert they were going to while they were shopping and reason number two) Kayla's mother knew that KAYLA DIDN'T LIKE DAVID BOWIE! It was something that Kayla was sure her mother got, but apparently not, since now they were in the middle of a giant crowd of screaming people listening to David perform, and there was nothing Kayla could really do about it, apart from watch the man of the hour on the stage performing some of his biggest hits.
But, as you were humming along to whatever song was playing, you turned and met the mismatched colored eyes of one of the biggest rock starts known to humanity. David Bowie, one of the biggest rock stars that your mother won't shut up about, was staring at you with his mesmerizing eyes that you instantly got lost in.
Kayla gulped slightly and waved at him, hoping to sweet baby Jesus that he didn't continue staring at her while he sang. Alas, he did something worse and WAY not expected at all. David smiled at you and then said into the microphone, "Alright, my beautiful people, I have a special request for you all to do tonight! I need you all to help me sing this next song to a lovely audience member in the front row. Can you all do that for me?"
The crowd erupted in cheers, including your mother, who held Kayla's hand up high and was shaking her with excitement. Kayla, however, was shaking with fear in her shoes. She somehow knew that David was talking about her, and she didn't like it one bit. She hated being the center of attention at parties, so when he looked pointedly at her and smiled, Kayla had no idea what to do at that moment. Then, he began singing while not moving from her gaze:
How you turn my world
You precious thing
You starve and near exhaust me
Everything I've done
I've done for you
I move the stars for no one
You've run so long
You've run so far
Your eyes can be so cruel
Just as I can be so cruel
Oh I do believe in you
Yes I do
Live without your sunlight
Love without your heartbeat
I, I can't live within you
I can't live within you
I, I can't live within you (Credit: David Bowie, "Within You" from Labyrinth)
Kayla was caught in his eyes, subconsciously swaying to the song as he held her gaze in his and held his hand out to her. She didn't know what to do at that moment. Should she take his hand? Should she shake her head and run the other way? Her head was telling her to run the other direction, but her heart told her to take his hand and follow him with whatever he had planned. And damnit, she followed her heart. She took his outstretched hand and let him drag her onto the stage beside him. When she stumbled into his rather surprisingly strong side, she looked at him and whispered, "Why did you choose me? What're you doing?"
He looked at Kayla and said, "I'm showing the world what a beautiful woman I have at my side tonight." He then kissed Kayla's forehead and asked, "What's your name, love?"
For some strange reason, in that moment, Kayla lost her voice. She looked in his eyes and squeaked, "Kay-Kayla, sir."
David smiled and said into the microphone, "Everyone, this lovely lady right here is Kayla, and I got a feeling that she wants me to sing her another song. What do you think, everyone?"
The crowd cheered, and Kayla's face was, by that point, the color of a tomato. She looked at her mother, who was cheering her on and smiling encouragingly at her. She looked at David, and he looked at her with nothing but love, compassion, and humility in his eyes. He cupped her face in his free hand and began:
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be Heroes, just for one day
And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that
Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time,
just for one day
We can be Heroes, for ever and ever
What d'you say?
I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing,
nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be Heroes,
just for one day
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be Heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day
I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns shot above our heads
(over our heads)
And we kissed,
as though nothing could fall
(nothing could fall)
And the shame was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be Heroes,
just for one day
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying,
then you better not stay
But we could be safer,
just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh,
just for one day (David Bowie, Heroes)
After David finished singing, he leaned in and kissed Kayla's red cheek, turning it even redder, if that was even possible. He then whispered in her ear away from the microphone in his hand, "Will you go out with me at some point in the week?"
Kayla didn't know what to say to that. She looked at the many faces in the audience and met her mother's tear-filled eyes. She nodded and mouthed, "Go for it! Say 'yes' to him, go for it! What have you got to lose?"
She looked back at David, who was staring at her with anticipation in his eyes as he waited for her answer. She smiled slightly, grabbed the microphone from him, and said, "Yes."
David beamed and grabbed her into a hug, spinning her around. The audience went ballistic, shouting, clapping, and dancing in their seats. David was smiling as he yelled into the microphone, "She said 'YES'!"
The following day, David took Kayla to a nearby Italian restaurant for dinner and the happy couple spent the entire evening talking, getting to know each other, and acting like they've been dating for years and they've just met. And the rest of David Bowie and Kayla's relationship is, as they say, music and love-filled history.
This is SUPER late, so I greatly apologize for that to @rebelrebelstardust12 (now JoePerrysBrat) for it being so late! Hope you like it, and if you have an requests, feel free to leave them in comments or PM me with your requests! Stay beautiful, my lovelies!
