Chapter 4

I struggled against the tight grip of the person. I kneed them in the stomach and they fell to the ground.

"Allison, chill. It's just me."

On the ground in front of me was Vanessa, groaning in pain.

"Vanessa, why the hell would you cover my mouth? Couldn't you have just called my name softly?" I complained with slight annoyance.

She smiled sheepishly, "I'm sorry, I knew that if I grabbed your arm you would scream, so to prevent that noise from happening, I covered your mouth. Sorry if I scared you."

I sighed, "It's okay. Lets head back to the cabin."

Honestly who the hell covers your mouth? I was struggling to understand the logic of Vanessa. I guess I could cut her some slack, it was dark and I would not have been able to see her if she grabbed my arm, so I probably would have screamed. However, deep inside I had a feeling it was done purposely.

~

The next day after the sleepover, was Sunday. Currently, I was sitting down in the dining table and eating some pizza. Vanessa dropped me off at my house earlier today.

My brother came home and slapped a newspaper on the table in front of me.

"What?" I asked, taking a bite of my pizza.

Josh rolled his eyes and pointed at the newspaper, "Read page 2."

I put my half eaten pizza down and picked up the newspaper.

"....16 year old Samantha Evans was found dead in Meadow forests at  5 o' clock, this afternoon. Officers are still trying to find evidence of the suspect. The investigation is going on and will still be going on all this week..."

I stood there shocked. Samantha was with us in the car. She went safely into the cabin and went safely home after the sleepover. She couldn't have died. It doesn't make sense. How could this happen?

"Wasn't that one of the girls at your sleepover?" Josh asked, sitting down and taking a slice of pizza.

I was about to reply to him, but the phone rang.

Josh picked it up quickly.

"Okay. Yes, yes okay. I will make sure of it. Okay, bye." He hung up.

Silence.

"Well. Who was that?" I asked, curiously.

"That was the police. They want all the girls from the sleepover to come to the police station on Wednesday. Including you."

I froze.

"Calm down Allison. They just want to ask you some questions. It's not like you killed her anyway." He said with a laugh. Of course my brother would try to crack some jokes while I was panicking.

I suddenly didn't feel like eating my pizza anymore.

~

Monday came along and everything was tense. You could tell the atmosphere in school was rough.

That was including me. I was exhausted because all night I was trying to put the pieces together, but couldn't figure out anything. It simply just doesn't make sense. She came with us to the cabin and the Vanessa took me and her back home on sunday. How is it possible that hours later, she was found in the forest dead?

I walked to my locker and exchanged my books for my next class.

"Hey."

I turned to find Jared standing in front of me with a smile. I smiled back tiredly and slammed my locker closed.

"Hey Jared."

"So there's this new movie coming out and -"

"Look, I'm exhausted, and today is just not my day. Plus I'm not even supposed to talk to you, so I really have to go." I blurted out, walking to my class, leaving him speechless.

I know that may seem really rude, but today was just not my day. Actually, it didn't seem rude,it was rude. I also didn't' want to talk to him because Vanessa had already advised me to stay away from him. I would obviously have to apologize to him later though.

Soon, lunch rolled by and I had some questions to ask Kayla and the other girls.

"Hey guys." I said, sitting down with my salad and water.

I heard a chorus of hellos. Everyone was silent and the tension was unbearable.

"Did you guys here what happened?" Kate, another one of the girls, said. I grabbed my fork and stabbed it into my salad, taking a bite.

Kayla rolled her eyes, "No shit we heard what happened."

"It doesn't make sense." Grace said, biting her lip. I nodded, agreeing with her. I swallowed my food and decided to speak up.

"Vanessa, didn't you take her home after the sleepover?" I asked, looking at her.

"Well, she told me she was going to Jake's house, to spend the day with him. So I dropped her off, and went home." Vanessa looked guilty for a second, but her expression quickly changed. I was definitely going to ask her about it later. Jake was Samantha's boyfriend, they were together for 6 months.

Kayla spoke up, "Listen. Obviously, Samantha ended up back at the forest somehow. Simple as that. That was her decision, and she got killed for it. There is no one to blame but her."

Everyone fell silient, thinking about this situation.

Vanessa decided to break the silence, "Did y'all get the call from the police about them asking us questions at the station?"

Everyone nodded. Great, everyone was going to be interrogated. Not only was it Grace, Vanessa, Kayla and I, but also two other girls. Caroline and Katelyn.

"When the police question us, all we have to say is that we dropped her off at home and then thats all we know. We don't know how she ended up back in the forest. So it isn't our concern." Kayla informed us. Everyone agreed that it would be our story.

After that, no one said a word. Everyone continued to eat.

~

Finally, the school day ended. I was standing in the parking lot, waiting for my brother. I saw Vanessa talking to some guy and decided to go and question her about lunch.

Once I reached her, the talking between the two immiediately stopped.

Finally,  the guy decided to speak up. He held out his hand, "Hey, I am Dustin."

I smiled, "I'm allision."

"Well, I should get going." He quickly left, and then there was two.

"Who was that?" I asked, nosily.

"Just a guy." Vanessa replied, I could tell she was easily lying. I shook it off and decided to get straight to the point. Its not my business anyway about who she associates with.

"Look, Vanessa. Can I talk to you?" I pulled some strands of my hair behind my ear and waited for her response.

"I really should get going." She started to leave but I grabbed her arm.

"Obviously, you know something about this that no one else knows. If you keep secrets then the only outcome is you getting caught by the police. You can tell me." I said softly, trying to convince her to explain to me the real story

She hesitated, but decided to speak, "After I dropped you off home, I didn't drop Samantha at Jake's house. I dropped her off on the side walk heading to his house. She told me to drop her off there because she wanted to meet a friend. I told her to tell me more, but she wouldn't. She begged me not to tell anyone."

"And Jake's house is very close to Kayla's house."

Maybe she walked back from the sidewalk to the forest or maybe someone took her back to the forest, or..... I stood there, confused as hell, trying to figure out what happened.

"You can't tell anyone I told you this. Especially the police." Vanessa said, interrupting me from my train of thought.

I heard a honk. My brother was here.

I started to leave but Vanessa held me with her arm. "Promise."

I looked at her pleading eyes and nodded.

"Promise."

Authors note:

Hello peeps. Things are getting tense, but it's only just the beginning! I reached 70+ reads and I am just really thankful to everyone who tried my story out!

Sorry this update came so late, wattpad annoyed me a lot this past week. Chapter 4 erased/ didn't save so I had to rewrite :////! Also, for some reason, this chapter was tricky to write, I had to make sure that everything I said goes with the plot. Also, I apologize for the structure of this chapter and how it was cut into days & stuff.

Hint: Next chapter involves the girls going to the police station.

I know that it may seem like the story is going to fast, but actually this is exactly how the pace of the story is supposed to go.

Thanks for reading!
