Katy sat next to Tom on the weathered old wooden bench that overlooked Atlanta, her head resting on his lap and his hand in hers, relaxing in the moment. They had hiked the whole way there, and all throughout, Kate had been trying to figure out when would be the right time for her to tell Tom she loves him.
They say in silence, taking it all in. The scenery, the moment, each other's company, being able to be there and touch each other in the first place. Looking out at the view, Kate decided to just spit it out. Get it over and done with. It felt like something she needed to get out, for confirmation that what she and Tom had was something. If he said it back, then she would be the happiest girl in the world, if he didn't, then maybe things weren't meant to be between them.
A part of her knew that Tom would probably say those three little words with a big meaning back, but deep down, though, she had a feeling in her gut that was saying who was she kidding? She was too problematic for anyone to love, always causing a stir, never the eye of the hurricane, just the storm. Things would go wrong one way another, if not now, later. So she might as well get it over with.
Closing her eyes as Tom massaged the top of her head in the most therapeutic of ways, Katy took a deep breath of the fresh air. Holding the back of Tom's hand up against her cheek, she murmured, "I love you."
"What?" Tom asked, breaking his gaze away from the scenery to look down at something far more beautiful. He furrowed his brows at Kate, "What did to say?"
Looking up at him, Kate shrugged, playing dumb. "I said I love the view. It's nice, isn't it?" Forcing a smile onto her face, Kate sat up on the bench and leaned into Tom as he wrapped his arm around her, his mind still running with what he swore he just heard her say
Nodding, Tom smiled softly, realizing what she had done and what she was doing. It wasn't like Harrison hadn't told him to do the same thing. He had been waiting for a right moment, and it was just now that he realized that that moment was now. He kissed her on her forehead, and held her closer to him. "I love you, too."
And at that, a grin spread across the young actress' face because the hurricane had finally reached a calm.
