"You can't stay...here." I said. I think that's obvious. I don't know why he needs to be told.
Lines on his forehead creased, "it's late, are you really gonna make me drive all the way back to my house?"
"I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be the first time you're driving at night." I shot back, crossing my arms.
Kian got up and walked over to me and unfollowed my arms, "and I'm pretty sure that if anything happened you'd regret making me leave."
Why does he keep implying that something might happen? I bit the inside of my cheek and darted my eyes away from his gaze. "Fine," I huffed moving past him and got a few blankets from the storage closet, "here's some blankets, you can sleep on the couch." I handed them to him. "I'll be in my room."
As I walked to my room Kian called my name. "Thanks for not kicking me out." He smiled.
Not feeling like mustering up a sarcastic comment, I just rolled my eyes and uttered, "uh huh," before shutting my door behind me.
Charlie jumped up on my bed and watched me pick out some pajamas for when I get out of the shower.
While the hot water poured onto me I began to think, think about all the things that have been happening recently. And the fact that Kian is on my couch, which just baffles me all on its own, but I get a feeling that he has been looking for a reason to stay overnight and given this unusual opportunity, he took it. I mean come on, he drove all the way from his house to help me then refused to go home. That's just a little too strange for my liking.
I got tired of thinking about it and got out of the shower. I put on my pajamas and got into bed, Charlie instantly
cuddled up next to me and it took no time for me to doze off.
In the middle of the night I rolled over and held onto what I thought was Charlie, but it didn't feel like a dog. I opened my eyes, a beam of light illuminated my room from the full moon. So I could see the silhouette of a person. I gasped loudly and retracted back to my side of the bed.
"No don't be scared." They said sitting up placing a hand on my side.
"Kian?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to freak out, I swear I was gonna leave after a few minutes. I just came in to check on you and I ended up laying down real quick." He said in a rushed manner.
I sat up and turned my bedside light on, "why are you in my bed in the first place?! Do you know how fucking weird this looks?"
"You were yelling in your sleep and I just came in to see if you were okay, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, I'm sorry."
"It's alright," the harsh tone in my voice softened when I noticed him starting to frown, "but can you imagine waking up to someone in your bed when you went to bed with no one in it, you would be freaked out too."
"Yeah I get it, you don't have to explain." He said getting up walking towards the door. For some reason he sighed and spun back around. "I know this may seem weird, which it wouldn't even matter if I said it anyways cause you already think I am but I really need to tell you something."
I braced myself for what he was about to tell me. God knows he'll probably make this a lot more awkward than it already is.
"I know you've been stressed out and scared lately and I just want you to know that I'm here if you need anything. I can't even explain to you how I felt when you said that Charlie ran away, like it hurt me so much to know that you were sad. And I don't mean to sound cheesy but I feel this need to protect you. Knowing that someone is out there doing messed up shit to you makes me so angry."
"Uhm...well I appreciate the help and concern I really do but it's fine you don't need to feel obligated to protect me."
Kian strode over and sat on the other side of my bed, "you don't get it though, I want to be the one you call when you need help with something, I care about you more than I should."
"I honestly don't know what you want me to say to that." I told him with a shrug.
"I don't know what I want you to say either." He said, clenching his jaw causing his temple to flex.
"I'm really tired though Kian I should go back to sleep." I said wanting him to just go. I didn't want to talk anymore, the things he was saying were making me sad, I don't like hearing people talk about the way they care for me. It makes me uncomfortable for some reason. And mentally I've been going through some shit that I've never really talked about to anyone. I haven't even begun to deal with it myself.
"Do you mind if I sleep in here with you?" He asked shyly.
I widened my eyes and just looked at him as if he said that he was an alien. Who asks that? And why would he want to?
"I think it would be best if you just-"
"-please, I don't mean it in a perverted way." He interrupted me.
I thought it over for a second before answering, "I'm not gonna even ask why but fine...I guess, only if you stay on that side of the bed."
Without saying another word he got under the covers and faced away from me.
I shook my head and ran my hands down my face in utter confusion then turned off the light. A half hour later I was still laying down wide awake, faced towards Kian. I couldn't sleep. When I felt Kian start to roll over I shut my eyes and pretended to be sleeping. Moments later I felt his hand start to gently stroke my cheek, I opened my eyes then grabbed his hand and removed it from my face slowly but still grasped his hand. We looked each other in the eyes but neither of us said anything.
He gave me a sense endearment, the warm feeling was something that I didn't know I needed. Even though it's awkward that it's Kian it's just been a long time since I've had a connection with someone. And I'm not talking romantically. I mean just sharing quietness with a person.
There was a short moment of silence before I broke it. "I don't know why I'm letting this happen right now." I whispered with a light hearted chuckle.
"Maybe because you need it." He whispered back to me. His words hit me in a place I didn't know was so vulnerable. A small tear ran down and I quickly let go of his hand to wipe it off.
"There are things that I'm going through right now that I haven't told anyone about and I just-" I stopped before I started to spill my emotions out, "-I don't know what I'm saying, sorry I don't mean to cry." I wiped some more tears off.
"It'll get better I promise." He reassured in a raspy voice.
"I don't understand you." I changed the subject so my sadness wouldn't consume me.
"What do you mean?"
"I can't even explain it, like you just have this way about you that is hard to wrap your head around. Take this moment for example, what exactly is happening right now?" I asked genuinely wanting to know.
"You think too deep into things, I've learned to just go with the flow and go after what you want. If you don't, life will get boring really fast." He explained.
"And what is it that you want?"
"Right now? You." Kian confessed.
