Being a french immigrant from France to America was very difficult for Camilla Amimé. She spent weeks on weeks on weeks learning the English language, and she still wasn't fluent, and her French slipped a lot during a sentence. She joined Starfleet only days after arriving in San Francisco.
8 months later
School was almost over. I was on my way to my engineering class when a fairly small figure crashed into her.
"Umph! Hey! Regarder où vous allez klutz !" I shouted at the short person who had run over me.
"I iz very sorry meez! I did not mean to bump into you!" The small boy stated. He too had a very heavy accent, Russian, I thought.
"It iz quite alright Monsieur. Just keep your head up eh?"
"Yez I zupoze." He quickly answered. "I am Pavel Chekov." He finished.
"Camilla Amimé." I responded. "I un m guessing cette you are Russian?" I asked
"That wvould be correct. And you are Native to France right?" Pavel asked
"Yes Ow fait you guess cette?" I inquired.
"Natives to France have a stronger French accents as it is not necessary to learn English." Pavel answered, matter of factly.
Then the bell sounded. Brrrrring!
"Oh Pavel Je suis vraiment désolé , mais je vais le brouillard ou je vais être en retard pour la classe!" I shouted. Running down the hall I called over my shoulder, "Au revoir!" Leaving Pavel Chekov standing in the middle of the hallway confused, trying to decipher my French. Under his breath, Chekov muttered in Russian, " Ну хорошо, она может быть просто новый друг . но что же она сказала ?"
Little did either of you know that you'd meet again, aboard the USS ENTERPRISE.
