the day we met

i heard a frighteningly loud yell coming from behind me, to which i couldn't really make out the words. my heart rate increased dramatically. was that him? was this finally happening? my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. there's vomit on my sweater already. moms spaghetti. i turn around, slowly, unsure of what to expect. the yell sounded quiet distant so i should have enough time to compose myself. i wipe my sweaty hands on my vomit covered sweater. i search the crowd of people in this mall, everyone pushing past each other. but one person stands out. he's not hard to spot, his features all so recognizable. my eyes follow him as he gets closer. he's running. i stand still, paralyzed. this is finally happening. this is the day. the day when i finally meet him. it's been years but it's happening! time seems to be going in slow motion as his figure approaches me. i walk ever so slightly towards him. we're only a few feet apart now. i can't believe this is happening. before i know it, his thick arms are wrapped around me, pulling me close to his chest in a hug. he's so much bigger than i expected. i can hear muffled screams of the people around us but i don't care. it might look weird to them but they don't know how long i've been waiting for this. they don't know how much this means to me. i'm so happy. i have finally met my best friend & future lover .... shrek.
