Lukas Kazlauskas was casually watching a movie he didn't even understand as a way to calm down. He couldn't stop thinking about what was going to happen in a few days: first the Eurovision semi-final, then the final... And before all of that, the interviews, the press conferences, the mean comments on social media, the thumbs down on YouTube... This is going to kill me.
Lukas grabbed his phone for the fiftieth time of the day. He couldn't help checking the number of views he had on the music video of his song. Lithuania's song. It's not just me, this time. I have a huge responsibility! He frowned when he saw the last comments.
"why is it in english ??? lithuania selling themselves to gain views !!"
"bad song, not 12 points from Italy"
"he looks like a cheap Joe Jonas lmao, but 12 points from Bulgaria"
Lukas unconsciously touched his black hair. Do I really look like Joe Jonas ? Nice. He felt bitter while reading all the comments that said his song was bad. He had written it himself, and then his manager Tomas had helped him remove all the English mistakes. The result was good, in his opinion! His English level was pretty low, but Tomas had made everything better. It was the song of his life, the most important one. The one that would be heard by all Europe.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated.
Lukas sighed. So Tomas had decided to text him in English, now? I get it, you don't want to be ashamed of me during the press conferences so you're training me... He typed his answer as fast as possible.
Lukas immediately went to the Twitter account he checked the most: wiwibloggs. They always had everything he needed to know before anyone else. As expected, they were already sailing the drama ship.
Lukas licked his lips thoughtfully. Who were Turkey and Denmark's contestants again ? Tomas had made him learn their names, but his memory was as bad as ever. He obviously knew their songs: both on the subject of love, both pretty cool and liked on YouTube. Although Turkey's candidate received a lot of backlash for being from a country that once refused to participate to Eurovision for "moral" reasons, she was appreciated by the bookmakers and the majority of the contest fans.
He clicked the link and waited restlessly. He scrolled through the article and finally found the picture. It was blurry and obviously taken by someone that didn't want to be seen, but no one could be fooled: the two females candidates were kissing at a café. Lukas nearly sent "so?" to Tomas but realised what he was seeing - Turkey would not be too happy about this...
Lukas didn't want to judge Turkey too quickly, but this kiss didn't bode well for the future of the Turkish contestant. And... maybe even the Danish one! Wouldn't this be taken as a competition issue? Two candidates that don't want the other one to lose because they're in love... Calm down, Lukas, it's just a kiss.
Lukas let his phone fall on the sofa. Yeah, maybe I should go to bed, now... But he couldn't stop himself from gathering more information about the Kiss Scandal. He grabbed his phone again and scrolled through Twitter until his eyes hurt. By midnight, there was nothing new: just the blurry picture and the deafening silence coming from the Twitter accounts of the two women involved. He knew he wouldn't learn anything new today.
Lukas was ready to go to bed with a good book when he saw a Messenger notification.
What ? Bill Barnes? Ireland's candidate? Lukas rolled his eyes when he saw his Facebook profile picture. He had put a fire stock photo. Because his song is called Fire. Wow, amazing.
He didn't mean to sound so dry, but he didn't know what Bill wanted at all. No one contacted another contestant through Facebook Messenger! Who was this guy? After the semi-finals, some friendships usually became public. Only friendships. Lukas was scared of doing something bad before the beginning of the semi-finals... Maybe I shouldn't have answered him, but it would have looked rude as hell... He didn't want to become the next scandal! Be careful, Lukas.
Lukas took a deep breath. God, I'm too intrigued to say no. He typed "Okay, talk to you tomorrow." and set his phone on plane mode.
